Nothing makes me headdesk harder than someone who thinks LGBT rights and religion are mutually exclusive.

Look at me, a rootin' tootin' Southern-fried Baptist. I think Abortion is a Sadistic Choice and I'm woohoo-yeehawin' for 'Murica. But even I think LGBT groups should get all the rights they've been denied for so long.

Jesus overturned the old laws during his Heroic Sacrifice. We didn't have to be afraid and walk on needles to be saved anymore. Even he broke some of the old laws by working on the Sabbath and the like, you probably know that story, to show that it was alright. If one insists that "11. No BENG GAY!f" still applies, you're essentially saying that he died for nothing.

I'm going to be honest, it's a seriously depressing topic for me. Nobody takes Christianity seriously anymore because these guys still exist, and I've been driven out of quite a few places the moment my faith was let public because of it. Like... Guys, I'm on your side, why are you yelling at me?!

I wish I hadn't clicked on that. My brain hurts now.

I also hate when people treat religion and support of LGBT rights as mutually exclusive. First of all, they're typically only looking at Christianity, or if they look beyond it then only Abrahamic religions. Second, it ignores those with interpretations of their beliefs that support LGBT rights. Last but not least, it ignores those who are both religious and fit somewhere in the LGBT umbrella, such as myself (bisexual Christian).

[up] It's a rather logical, if incomplete, chain. The people who oppose LGBT rights are Christian, therefore Christians oppose LGBT rights. It doesn't help that the loudest screamers are on the anti side, so they get all the press; the groups that are pro tend to get a brief mention if that.

[up]And they're praised as heroes for what amounts to their own hate crimes... it makes me sick. And by "sick", I mean literally ill — I actually have to go to therapy because I have regular flashbacks of one particularly vicious online attack.

Also, "support" or lack thereof among the religious is more of a continuum than a "you do"/"you don't" proposition. Between complete hostility to and complete acceptance of the concept, there's a wide, fluctuating variety of stances between & within religious groups. So depending on the context, it's not always clear precisely what stance a given person is claiming to be consistent or inconsistent with his faith.

Methodist church drops internal charges against one minister for performing gay marriage. Of course they already defrocked another minister a few months ago.

He is really just an awesomely casual and loveable guy. He let me hug him.grin

Guys, do you happen to remember Kevin Swanson, the pastor who thought girl scout cookies turn people gay? Well, he's back, with an even more idiotic and ridiculous claim:

Disney's smash hit Frozen is indoctrinating kids to be gay. Yes you read that right. I've not been this pissed off for a while, it's like he didn't even watch the movie or something

I think he just heard people taking Let It Go as a lesbian empowerment anthem without really paying attention to the context. Yeah, the song can be taken that way, when completely removed from the movie, but that's not what the song is about.

[up]Let it Go can be put into ANY context about being yourself and still make sense really. Though, that still makes his argument bogus.

If Disney really wants to indoctrinate the youngin's into the godless sodomite lifestyle...why wouldn't they just make a movie with an actual gay couple in it?

I presume they want to be subtle enough so as not to tip off the god-fearing, all-American parents who'd otherwise be swift to prevent their precious angels from getting be-gay-ified. While simultaneously being unsubtle enough that the blasphemous messages sear the tender souls of aforementioned precious angels like the sight of a Lovecraftian god. It's a tricky balancing act.

You know, the gay stereotype of being loud and flamboyant doesn't mesh well with the gay stereotype of being sneaky and underhanded.

[up].......I'm reminded of something my dad was fond of saying to telemarketers, and old AT&T joke. "If reach out and touch someone actually worked, I'm gonna reach through this [[strike phone]] monitor and jackslap the fuck out them."

Seriously, who is head of that baptist convention, and where do they live so I can go drive over there and punch him?
