I've had a theist "friend" openly state that since morals come from God, atheists therefore have no morals.
He deleted me from his facebook after I (and some of his own christian friends) Pointed out thats not only silly, but implies that if christians stopped believing in God, they'd go off raping and pillaging with nothing to stop them, which says awful things about the true desires of supposedly "moral" christians.
Haldo is a she actually.
Hm. I wonder if I count as a Boomerang Bigot what with my utter disdain for certian flavors of Christianity.
It was an honorThe big stereotype associated with this type is the virulent anti-gay activist who gets caught by the police paying a guy for blowjobs. It seems to happen a disturbing amount, especially the higher up in status they are in power.
I've lost track of the number of politicians and religious zealots who were rabidly anti-gay who have been outed. There's where the whole joke about people who are very homophobic being secretly gay comes from. Because it seems that the louder they are about it, the more likely they are to be caught with their pants down with another man.
Cardinal Keith O'Brien who was outed as abusing his power bugger priests all the while spouting hateful anti-gay lies is probably the most recent example.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick
Its a common psychological thing anyhow with any thing you're not "supposed" to enjoy.
People will preach for days about the evils of alcohol or cheating on your wife or gay sex. But when they theselves commit the act, they'll use a myriad number of excuses to absolve themselves of blame for the "crime"
Actually to be a boomerang bigot you have to hate yourself and your own Christianity.
It would be like "All Christians are evil and I am a Christian."

hashtagsarestupidDo some ever try the "Well it's okay if I do it" defense?
This isn't a new thing either. Wasn't one of the prohibition lawmakers making whiskey in his bathtub? Most people who set up standards of behavior don't live by the standards they want everyone else to live by.
Do the politicians usually quit going after gay people after that? Usually I know they quit being politicians but has anyone tried still going after gay people after they themselves were caught in the act?

METAL GEAR!?There was some sort of study that showed that extreme homophobes showed as much to more arousal when exposed to um...erotic same-sex imagery as gay people.
Eh. Much easier to explain as that some people, when challenged with evidence that their carefully constructed personal identity likes something it "shouldnt", will instead channel that confusion into rage
@Max Yeah, I meant boomerang bigots. There are also the more benign anti-gay gay people, though, like gays who agree with your stance and thus live lives of celibacy.
‽‽‽‽ ^These are interrobangs. Love them. Learn them. Use them.I find this amusing:
I really find it weird that if you think God is a murderous tyrant, (like Phelps and Farewell seem to believe) who wants to kill lots of his own loyal people just to teach them to not respect people with different codes of morality why you'd want to worship him?
That sounds more like fear of a vengeful demon than love of a merciful God.
@Ship: Is there any actual verse that says sex is only for procreation? I know for sure it says premarital sex is a sin but I'm not sure about that other rule.
METAL GEAR!?Easy, you don't want to be in the fire pit either so you try and do what you think it wants so you get the eternal cookie instead of the eternal spanking.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurI heard joke once. Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says he feels unwanted and hated in threatening world. Doctor says treatment is simple. "Fred Phelps is in town. No matter how many people you believe hate you, he has it worse."
Man bursts into tears. "But doctor," he says. "I am Fred Phelps."
Good joke. Everybody laugh. Picket funeral. Bikers.
...The joke predates Watchmen, though...
Ah, so it was just something he quoted there eh?
How are the churches in New Zealand reacting to legalizing same sex marriage?
METAL GEAR!?Yep. It's an old joke. I think it may even predate Pagliacci, and just had other funny people used before then.
Technically, Wildcard is correct. The joke predates Watch Men, but the Rorschach-esque way in which I wrote it obviously means I'm paraphrasing it.

And then the comments section where even more rhetoric and less fact abounds.
It was an honorBill Maher dissing religion? Next thing you know, the sky will turn blue.
I really wish people would at least wait a few more weeks before they started pointing fingers at everything they don't like as "the cause".
Religion does lead to insane laws, (or insane laws are justified by religion) in some parts of the world but this isn't the cause for all the worlds ills or anything like that.
I'm pretty sure I've seen people besides Phelps say he was in league with "teh gayz! trying to blow up America, so their is plenty of stupid to go around.
METAL GEAR!?Yeah religion is, if anything, merely an enabler.

Yeah and I've seen theists vilify atheists as "people with no morals" lots of times as well.
METAL GEAR!?
