Also can somebody tell me this: Are the boy scouts an actual religious organization? Like I know they are heavily affiliated with it but are they actually a religious organization?

They were certainly not founded as one. The gay/atheist ban was not originally part of their policy, and this sort of discrimination was something they were openly opposed to before the Mormon Church became their top financial contributor.

Even now, it's very obvious that they're not really a religious group and are just concerned about who's writing their paychecks. Hence why they're considering lifting their ban on gays the moment several of their donors decide to stop funding them because of said ban.

Maybe somebody should of pointed that out when some lady in the article told the scouts to "stick to their principles" huh?

The original boy scouts were founded by Sir Robert Baden-Powell, a British war hero and possibly repressed homosexual (oh, the irony, it is delicious). I was in the boy scouts in Britain, and I don't believe we ever discriminated, though I would have been to young to care or comprehend if we did.

A newly resurrected Phelps: You thought your world was safe. It never was. It was all an illusion, designed to give you comfort. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I am returned. And I will have my vengeance.

So.....shall we begin??

I still think Phelps is only a minor villain with too much free publicity, but I am curious about one thing. If Yahweh is about to carpet bomb the US, why haven't they left? Maybe they think god is out to kill everybody, but as the True Believers, their deaths will be quicker and therefore less painful?

I think the WBC decided that everybody else regardless of faith was a non-believer and therefore a worse person than they were. Then they conveniently forgot the "Love thy neighbor" so he could be an asshole.

Terradorablyfying
The WBC regard almost anyone who does not follow their exact theology or something close to it as essentially devil-worshippers. This includes Catholics, and Protestants who do not preach against homosexuality. As far as I recall, they also subscribe to an extreme form of Calvinism, meaning they believe in predestination to the extent that converting people isn't worthwhile because God has already determined who will and won't go to Heaven (possibly wiht only 144, 000 going to Heaven, which will of course include them).

This means they feel justified in sitting around and being gloating assholes.

144, 000? That is a ridiculously small number.

Seriously, that's less than the population of a small city.

[up] It comes from the book of Revelations, where it makes even less sense, because it's only talking about Jewish descendants from the original twelve tribes.

So if you take it to mean those are the only people getting into heaven, gentiles are screwed anyways.

This may be the single biggest crock of horseshit in this timeline and the following 4, 763 others.

Near as I can tell, they think they're going to get the same deal Lot did vis-a-vis Sodom and Gomorrah. Which, uh... may be why the Phelps clan includes so many daughters...
Freedom of speech includes the freedom for other people to call you out on your bullshit.

At least Phelps gets the less obvious bigots taken less seriously. The more he pickets soldiers funeral the more likely people will try to fight against everything he stands for. He's still an awful person doing awful things though.

Why are we trying to get him arrested again? Isn't that a violation of his freedom of speech? Granted, he's protesting funerals instead of giving his chicken sandwich money to anti-gay groups, but legally, he's allowed to do so, right?

Also, am I the only one who thinks the focus on Phelps is an excuse not to deal with the more dangerous people out there who have better PR? Pat Robertson and the pope have called non-heteros a threat to mankind (not womankind though, cause they're sexists) and nobody's calling for their arrest. Fred Phelps isn't the king of the homophobes, though he may think he is.
