Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in this thread.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

So does anyone think the gay marriage debate is gonna come to a close in the next four years? As in it will be allowed in all the states or some states will not permit it and have no pressure to undo that?

METAL GEAR!?Not remotely, but we might see an obvious tipping point by then.
I'd say 10, perhaps 20 or 30 years. By that point many of the world's newest generation of leaders will have grown up in an enviroment where gay marriage is a legitimately and widely discussed issue. A more callous take would be that by that point, today's conservative 'old guard' will be dying off.

Eh. Today's conservative "old guard" is usually the less vicious part, and you're likely to see things become more heated as they die off unless we have a hell of a schism. The loudest, angriest ones are mostly the newer ones that got in post-Reagan that got rich on his policy and capitalized on recent reactionary evangelical surges that were too poor to do any digging.

I'm not big on american politics, sadly. I was under the impression (based on hearsay, I'll admit) that homosexuality sees more acceptance among younger demographics.

It does, but I think he's right, we're going to see a sharper divide as the "old guard" dies off. The newer conservatives seem to be a "no-compromise" brand of right-wingers, whereas the old ones, while they may have stronger instincts against homosexuality, at least understood that government only works when you compromise.
Much to my BFF's wife's chagrin, No Pants 2013 became No Pants 2010's at his house.Darn, was hoping we'd get this won and look back on marriage for straights only as a relic of the past before too long.
Proposition 8 might end this year. I hope that awful thing gets declared unconstitutional. It could be a good first step to this actually becoming a relic of the past once and for all.
METAL GEAR!?Totally agreed.
I called it a year ago that working together, we could see gay marriage happen in under a decade. Looks like that estimate was too conservative.
My personal hope is that once we achieve peace on that issue, we finally pool our resources and get to work on pressing issues like ensuring our planet can still support life, that people stop dying because they can't afford insurance, that our civil liberties stop becoming extinct, that we destroy the corporatocracy that seeks to control the country, etc.
EDIT: Good point Card. Edited.

It was an honorI know what your trying to say Starship but could you not put it like that. This is a very real issue to many people.
METAL GEAR!?People Are Civil Now It Sucks?? Is that even a real trope?
It was an honorIt should be. I wanted this to come to war! Now your gonna say I can't declare war on my neighbor and his loud music either! What is the world coming too!?

METAL GEAR!?To introduce a little crossover from the "Gay Rights and America" thread, I feel that the only way we can stop insane laws like this one from getting passed (aside from a federal law/constitutional amendment/Supreme Court ruling) is to win the hearts and minds of the people.
Unfortunately, the hearts and minds of the people are too often married to (what I consider to be) an outdated precept of their religion, and, more unfortunately, they want to force those precepts on other people. How do we convince people to be more like The Starship Maxima in accepting that, sure, their religion might say one thing, but that no, that doesn't mean everyone has to live that way?
Much to my BFF's wife's chagrin, No Pants 2013 became No Pants 2010's at his house. You guys could distill my thoughts and opinions into a downloadable app that comes free with the iPhone5. The Starship App if you will.
.......Or we could just lure all the fundies to TV Tropes and convert them through sheer OTC awesomeness.
Of course, getting the fundies to come here might be more difficult than turning my opinions into a download, now that I think of it.
It was an honorActually that might depend on the type they are. The really bad I've seen fall into two categories "ignore unless it is right next to you" and "if you know about something "evil" you must destroy it!" it wouldn't be the hard to get the second type here.
METAL GEAR!?But Starship, your app would have to come with an additional Silas app that translates what you're saying, so those on the left don't throw their phone at the wall in outrage at your (perceived) homophobia.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranNah, the app is for people on the right, and any perceived homophobia would just make them feel better.

Ouch!
It was an honorYeah we would have to deal with that. If we could convince them to at least try to civil then it would probably work.
METAL GEAR!?Hm. Yes. It could work....
It was an honor
Looks like you're being replaced as the voice of the opposition, Maxima.
Dear God, if this keeps up, I'm going to have to get used to life as a well-liked troper. The horror!
It was an honorShut up, and get back in my basement, bible-boy.
I'll acknowledge that as human beings we may be more alike than different. But if our differences are so petty, that mean's there's even less of an excuse for discrimination of any kind. All the more reason to fight against it.
