The barking creature was loud in the cramped underground cave. Loud enough that the echoing barks of the furry thing sent Aldrea momentarily reeling, clapping her delicate hands over her pointed ears, clutching her eyes tightly shut as she dug her hooves into the earth. But her eyes opened suddenly as she heard the voice- a voice that was even louder, commanding, and intimidating than the voice of Esplin 9466 Primary. But at the same time the voice seemed... older, more mature than a young Yeerk, more accustomed to the pwoer that it wielded. It did not even sound angry, she reflected, as the dozens of eyes opened around her.

<I am Aldrea-Iskillon-Falan>, she declared, somewhat imperiously. <I am an Andalite and I demand to know the reason why my comrade Dak and I were brought to this planet.>

"Of course, first reaction to the unknown is to point a weapon at it... how cliche. Listen to the dorf, he's mostly right. You weren't at our little orientation, were you? I am Ihdisith the Trickster, one half of the Powers That Be of this cozy little corner of the void. And if you actually could help repair this thing, it'd be... more helpful than you even know," said the voice as the scattered lumps of proteum were molded together and resolidified into metal.

"Orientation? So you did do what the Tall Man told you?"

"Pffffhahaha! Oh, no. No, no, no. His ideas are so boring. I think it's much more entertaining if they figure it out on their own. Besides, it hardly seems fair to tell them what's going on when he won't even tell you the whole story, don't you think?"

First fell silent as considered the trickster's words. He didn't trust the outsiders to start with, but it almost seemed like he was trying to encourage it.

Heheh.... "the Tall Man." As if his height were his most distinguishing feature.

"You are trespassing in my private quarters; by rights I could slay you where you stand. You are in no position to make demands." said the voice sternly, stating it as a matter of fact rather than a threat.

"You claim not to know why you are here."

There was an annoyed sigh, and the voice continued. "I suppose an early awakening is a fitting punishment for trusting the Serpent with even the most basic of tasks. However, I shall not be made to repeat myself. Upon your return, gather the other mortals and I shall explain all. First, though, explain to me how you passed the Cerberim while not yet dead."

"The trickster?" Marle repeated to the voice, lowering her weapon. "I've heard enough of you from First!"

"You helped take out his eye!" Marle stated, incredulously. "Not even an eye socket left!"

"You also planted a golden apple tree into a wall," Marle also stated. "I... don't know what the golden apples do, but First told us not to touch them, so they must do something bad!"

In reality, Marle sounded more like a spoiled brat with her accusations, though they were not without merit.

Kestrel stared at the area of space formerly occupied by Sedd. He had been erased. Not in the classical sense, though, but he appeared to have been abruptly torn from space-time like a stain that had been cleaned with gusto - here one moment, gone the next. He had quite simply ceased to exist, something that alarmed the Voron agent far more than it really should have. The mysterious purple voice didn't help matters, either.

Noticing the passenger registry, Kestrel did what any good spy would do and decided to investigate. What he found left him dumbstruck. Sedd's name was listed under one of the cabins - the same one, in fact, that they were in.

"What the hell is going on here?" There wasn't a hint of Mikhail's former irritation or self-assuredness left. Into the void had rushed the unmistakeable tone of complete surprise.

Twilight shrugged. "If we were to believe the voice, this place is booby trapped and every object should be given extreme caution in handling. Someone or something is playing with us. Whether thats a natural part of this game or the hacker behind me and some others being here I don't know."

Reth listened lazily to the conversations going on around him. Eventually, he said "Wow, Ihdsi, you've really been busy, huh? But are you sure that twisting the rules won't get you into trouble?" He then turned to First and asked "Hey, Old Man. Why is it so important that " He" awaken?"

"Allow me to show you how a real whale does battle!"

"Well, aren't we feeling confrontational! Here, let me give you something more tangible at which to direct thine anger." Laughed the voice of Ihdisith.

And then another Marle appeared with a popping noise, complete with an uncharacteristicly smug smirk and a certain tint to her voice. The eyes were a dead giveaway, too - slitted pupils surrounded by multiple multicolored irises, the rings of color filling all that was visible of the eyes. "Ah, he told you that story, did he? Left out a few key details; no surprise there - nobody likes to admit their own idiocy! But maybe you should make sure you have the full picture before you go throwing accusations around. I'm impressed though, Junior - leaving out key details to twist the story in your favor? Maybe you have been listening to me!"

"Tall Man's the only one that can keep him under control," muttered First.

"Ha! If that were the case, I would have stayed dead the first time! There are always loopholes, though, the trick is to twist the rules as far as you can without actually breaking them. "Keep the clocktower in working order" is not the same as "fix it yourself, manually.""

"Or 'keep it set to the right time.'"

"Ha! I suppose that one was a bit obvious. Some are a little harder to work around, though. Like "don't eat my apples unless I offer you one," or "stay in the clocktower until I instruct you otherwise," Niccozmo." We need to have little talk about that, by the way.

The undead astronomer winced and cursed under his breath as Ihdisith fixed him with a glare.

Marle just looked, a bit stunned at the mockery of herself standing in front of her.

"That's not funny," Marle muttered as she crossed her arms, but was at least, not as hostile to him anymore, though still not pleased. She seemed to be at least willing to hear her... him... it out. Not that she had much of a choice.

<The serpent?> asked Aldrea doubtfully, stepping back like an affronted deer and poking one of her stalk eyes at the enormous figure which was now adressing her. She momentarily ignored the being's statement that she was in no position to make demands- she was an Andalite, and this creature had the presumption to drag her across untold swathes of space in pursuit of osme bizarre goal.

<What is the Cerberim?> she finally asked, after a pause.
