Currently Forbidden Zone lacks an image.

I did a bit of poking around on the ole tubes and have the following suggestions:

1. The Simple But Clear One.

2. The Less Clear and Referential One.

2 is a photo of the Real Life Zone of Alienation around Chernobyl. Creative Commons license and would need a photographer credit and link (and a resize job).

Second one would work better if it was in English and/or had something to indicate it was Chernobyl. Otherwise, it would probably end up back here in a few months as JAS(ign)AAC.

First one works well, and the variety of languages contribute to this.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

In the same vein, these are from Chernobyl.

Scary sign. A map of the area.

1.1 is nice. I like both of [up], but the second might not work well at wiki size.

I like the idea of having Chernobyl on the pic, but pic #1.1 is so far better.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

[up]Yeah, I dug through a lot of Chernobyl pics and discarded most as they didn't quite manage to convey the forbidden nature of the zone in the trope. Too many shots of people and vehicles going into the Zone and a lot of the gates and fences are small, unmanned and photo perspective makes them into insurmountable waist height fences.

3.1 is a pretty cool image: but the lack of any "No Entry" type signage (and the line of people in the background) loses it points, unfortunately.

1.1 is also a RL image - it's signage from the U.N buffer zone between Greek and Turkish Cyprus.

So...

So far 1.1 is the clear favourite. Anyone have any significant objections to it or better suggestions?

this could be good if I could find it with better quality

[up][up], [up] Not really sold on either of those for the page...Image Links fodder, for sure.

I'm with Willbyr. The Planet Of The Apes one doesn't really convey "this area is forbidden" so much as it does "these people have been crucified." Rows of dead enemies are just as easily a signal of boasting villains as they are "this is a forbidden zone."

The Battle For Terra one also doesn't immediately say "stay out of here" to me. Those statues could be praying as much as warding people away.

It's surprisingly hard to find a good, clear "Forbidden Zone" image that doesn't need familiarity with the work to really get.

It looks to me like we're going to be hard pressed to find one that conveys the trope as succinctly as 1.1. Move to crowner or just a straight motion to use 1.1 in the light of no significant objections or clear rivals?

Since we're doing image links stuff at this point, I'll just put these up.

Atomic Priesthoods. Radioactive Waste Disposal for 12,000 AD. Yucca Mountain.

Well, it's a been a little while, so I went ahead and made a crowner for this here.

And we're done. The new pic's up, potholed, and tagged. I really don't think a caption's needed, but if someone wants to add one, go for it. Locking up.
