Removing complaining, bashing and other negativity from the wiki

Go To

Inspired by this thread, I've noticed that this wiki doesn't have a dedicated cleanup thread for negativity.

As we all know, Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, Creator Bashing and other negativity isn't desired on the wiki, except in a few selected areas like reviews and several Darth Wiki pages (and even then, with limitations). And yet, it's one of the most common sins wiki contributors can make.

So, if you find a page, TLP or discussion whose content seems like a straight-up insult or any other bitching - including complainy soapboxing -, you might ask here for help with removing said content.

The sandbox for this project is located at Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining.

Dark Messiah seems to have a lot of problems with people complaining that every play style but their own sucks. Hint: I've played it every style and they're fine. Also, poison is not fatal. Just saying. If you're smart enough to break off combat it leaves you with 1hp ish.

Okay, cleaned up Video Brinquedo and Ratatoing, Historical Recreation, I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, and some of Hush Hush. That's enough for me today.

Discard. I can see this... "trope" turning into a complaint-fest in a heartbeat.

[up]Don't agree with the "sequelitis" part, but I doubt that we need this one - especially video game specific, it makes no sense.

Not that I don't agree with the sentiment, but does the description for Girls Behind Bars look a bit too vitriolic?

[up]What is Girls Behind Bars? The description says it involves lesbianism but the examples I recognise do not involve anything other than women who are behind bars.

It's supposed to be "girls in prison played for Fetish Fuel", in contrast to male jails with Prison Rape played for giggles.

The description of Power Creep was edited in April 1 to add an Author Tract talking about how this trope is bad and you should feel bad if you like/use it.

Should the paragraph remain or should it be removed?

I also notice that that page has all of three bullet points, all of which apply only to collectible card games. I'm wondering if it's The Same But More Specific of something.

@ 63, no Tropes Are Not Bad is the policy you want to cite when removing that.

I've nuked the tv tropes section because it was stupid. Whoever feels like fixing the rest, go ahead.

EDIT: Wait, it's cut. No great loss.

WHY exactly was it cut? Was it just because of the negativity?

Because it's a form of importing/exporting drama and complaining about how ridiculous x website is.

The Music Video Syndrome page is too negative in tone, with many entries treating the trope like it a disease (which is another reason why "X Syndrome" is not a good trope name form). The main problem is this paragraph at the bottom of the description:

It has been proposed to kidnap modern scriptwriters and strap them in for the Clockwork Orange treatment to defeat Music Video Syndrome. It won't work; this syndrome is at least in part because of Executive Meddling, and executives are immune to the treatment. And, as noted, things could be worse.

This part needs to go.

"Saddlesore Galactica" (a Simpsons episode, by the way), is full of cleaning. I feel a bit guilty since I started the whole Simpsons recap thing, but I'm a bit too busy right now to handle it myself.
