I am become death, Destroyer of worldsif it very flashy then good Quoted for truth.
Parasol Star MemoriesI'm jealous of flashy ones because they just make me say, "Hey game, wouldn't it be cool if I could do that myself?" Doing something awesome yourself is much more rewarding than pressing a button and watching the game do something awesome for you.

I am become death, Destroyer of worldsExcept sometimes, its nearly impossible for game designers to make the flashy stuff into actual gameplay without compensating for something. Look at Onimusha or Devil May Cry, or even Bayonetta for instances where None of the characters are capable of doing anything in cutscenes in gameplay, thus, Q Te's involve more people because justg watching the flashiness without doing anything with your controller is boring. Another example I like:

I HATE it, I'm very slow and I don't have good coordination so it's too hard(frankly impossible in my case) to do it in a game where they are an actual challenge, but if it's in a game where I can do it just fine it means that there's no point in having them in first place.
[insert quip here]Flashiness doesn't necessarily equate to good, y'know. And that applies to everything, not just QTEs. The phrase "style over substance" comes leaping to mind.
I am become death, Destroyer of worldsAnd sometimes people prefer Style depending on the genre, though.
[insert quip here]You can have style with substance, but you can't make a game on style alone.
I am become death, Destroyer of worldsI know that. But the thing is QTE's help in some way to do something without feeling like your not using a controller for entire cutscenes after cutscenes. Depending on how they are used, it tends to help avoid Gameplay and Story Segregation as well. That's when I feel it's okay to use them.
