Does Not Illustrate: Golden Snitch

Like Poison Mushroom and Super Star before, this is just a picture of the trope namer with no indication of what it does.

It's the trope namer, but ignoring that, I'm sure that pretty much everyone has heard of/read Harry Potter. Still, I guess maybe a scorecard of sorts showing the massive boost of points from the snitch can be placed.

Yes, but that doesn't mean they know little details from the books, such as what a "snitch" is.

Just the Trope Namer? Everyone knows Harry Potter is a very poor argument (and I'm a fan).

The things done with the snitch that are likely to stick out were its plot importance, not its game importance.

Oh come on. The article makes perfect sense with this image. The image makes perfect sense on this article.

The image makes sense only to whoever has seen Harry Potter. Blatant Fan Myopia. And I say that as a Harry Potter fan.

The visuals don't add anything here, and could easily be replaced with any object or image you'd find on Google. The caption itself does virtually all of the work at showing the trope. And since Golden Snitch sounds more like the object than "only item that counts", having Just An Object And A Caption would invite Trope Decay.

Is Harry Potter really that popular? The image really makes no sense to me, and neither does the article name.

That said, I'm not sure how else you'd picture this trope.

Oh, well if it really does make no sense, then I guess it's not the best. Personally, I think it's better than nothing and it works with the name, but if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Just to put things into perspective, I have never seen Aliens but I still think the image on Vasquez Always Dies*

The picture on Vasquez Always Dies at least shows the character, but I don't even see how the object in this picture relates to a game. It looks like it ought to be some sort of Plot Coupon.

Like I said, though, I don't know how to picture this. And to be honest, I've probably just lived under a rock.

Considering Septimus Heap's post—OK, if the image really is actively harming understanding of the article, then it can be pulled. The problem I was (and still am, frankly) seeing is that pulling the current image would create an unnecessary rift between the trope and the trope namer because of the difference between current Image Pickin standards and past trope naming standards.

Would a picture of Harry catching/chasing the Snitch work? Perhaps with a caption commenting on the scoring system?

e.g.: "Field goal? 10 points. Catch the Golden Snitch? 150 points and game over."

I suppose that's not strictly JAFAAC, since it's depicting a score, but it still seems pointless as an image since it's the caption doing most of the work.

I think the pic on post 8 is good. Much better than the current image.

Pulling the pic and using the text from panels 9 and 10, or just 10 from the Sluggy Freelance comic as a quote would be sufficient for me.

@17: I was thinking something along the lines of this pic◊ with the caption:

"Field goal? Pft... 10 points. Catch the Golden Snitch? 150 points and game over."

Think this works since it shows Harry actively reaching for the Golden Snitch, which is the focus of the image. You sort of get the impression that the little flying ball is important while the background alludes to it being some sort of sport or game.
