S'PAWN - A Homestuck Crossover:

See HERE for the original concept. Credits to Bassetete for the idea and allowing anyone to use it after he decided against proceeding due to lack of personal interest.

UPDATE: The Roleplay and Discussion Topic are up.

UPDATE 2: I'd just like to mention that the signups will remain open indefinitely, since two other people have expressed interest but have yet to submit their applications.

As with the original idea, this is a Homestuck RP with characters from other series as well as OCs (Original Characters) allowed. The RP should probably be lighthearted, or at least as much as a SBURB session thing will allow. Freeform plot, and previous reading of Homestuck not required, though you should probably do the research before making a character sheet.

Rules:

  • No godmoding or drama, though I'll try to be a bit forgiving.
  • As in the original concept, characters should be below 3 on the Super Weight scale, due to the additional power that SBURB (or in this case, S'PAWN) adds. Bassetete was spot-on in this respect, so I'm basically copying this rule wholesale.
  • Also another great idea of Bassetete, only canon characters that are mandatory to a session will interfere, such as Jack Noir or the other Dersian Agents. Frankly, I would rather carbon-copy that rule than copy Hussie's plot twists.
  • Speed of this RP is a complete mystery at this point. The last one was predicted to be slow moving, but as far as I'm concerned this one will be anyone's guess. Be prepared for anything, and feel free to drop out if you can't keep up.
  • Unlike the original idea, entry is not sudden and we will see a bit of the character's home universe. In addition, if you want the character might not be implied to be the original but rather an alternate with minor differences. This allows characters who had a confirmed canon well past the end of their series to take part, and accounts for a situation of a universe where computers and other electronics may just plain not exist. In the case of the latter, a magic book can work just as well as any machine, so keep that in mind.
  • Speaking of changes, weird new stuff may be introduced as aspects of the game. Get approval from the discussion topic first though, please.

I will be playing a character since that was my original intent the first time around, so I'm looking for a Co-GM or even a replacement for the sake of fairness.

Feel free to sign up at your leisure.

CHARACTER SHEET

Name:

Series of Origin: Pothole if you please.

Personality and History (Brief): How does this character tick and what makes it so? Be detailed.

Powers (Pre-S'PAWN): What they can do without game mechanics in mind.

Modus (Fetch and Stife): Your character is allocated a fetch modus and strife specibus upon entry. These can be made up.

Communication Device: Your character starts with one device of their choice with every other player's contact in it. Cannot double as a weapon.

Contact Name and Typing Quirk: The name your character can be communicated with and any strangeness in how your character types.

Mythological Role: This can be one of the canon combinations or have one or two designations made up. Duplicates of titles or aspects are allowed. We don't need a Time or Space role. Keep in mind that apparently neither half of the role is to be taken literally (i.e. "Prince" is "Destroyer" and "Light" is "Fortune") but rather you should observe the traits of canon characters and use that as a basis to what the true meanings are. Also feel free to make up new roles (one or both halves may be original) but remember the fact that things are not literal. Passives/active and powers will go by canon, or briefly describe the passive/active and powers granted by the role otherwise.

Lands: Please use the 5 word titling starting with 'Land Of', beyond that this can be made up.

Denizen: Please use a canon denizen if your aspect has one, otherwise this may be made up. Try to make it a mythological creature.

Planet: Prospit or Derse? I'm going to request that we keep the numbers between Prospit and Derse even to the best extent possible.

Kernelsprite: Assigned with two prototypings upon entry. First is the one that shall affect monsters. One of these should be something sentient that had a close relationship with the player. Specify here if you will play the Kernelsprite or if you wish me to assume control.

Other: Anything else you need to say say here. Plot ideas, character notes, death threats, and so on.

(D'OH! I forgot to alter the character sheet to say S'PAWN instead of S[X]! Sorry about that.)

USEFUL STUFF

These tests are completely optional but strongly recommended.

ROLE TEST i.e. "Person of Element"

REALM TEST i.e. "Land of Environment and Quest"

ESTABLISHED FANON

  • Rage players have Phobos, Greek God of Terror, as their Denizen.
  • Ports players have Helios, the Greek personification of the Sun, as their Denizen.
  • Truth players have Hypnos, the Greek God of sleep and dreams as their Denizen.
  • Ports actually means "borders". As in, the lines between locations and times, rather than the locations and times themselves.
  • Rifts players have Eris, the Greek goddess of strife and discord, and chaos by its modern definition, as their Denizen.
  • Mind players have Psyche, the Greek deification of the human soul, as their Denizen.
  • Skaipa is an IM client with voice and video chat. (By no means is it the only one. Make up your own if you want!grin)
  • Will players have Atropos, the third and final Greek goddess of fate, in her case the parts concerning inevitability and inflexibility, as their Denizen.

POSSIBLE FANON

Bassetete's Cool Letter Thingy:

Whomsoever you are at this moment, know that your universe is soon to end. Along with many others, and there is not a thing you can do about it. Bearing in mind that we bear you no personal ill will, you must know that these apocalyptic events are entirely of our design. Perhaps you have seen it once, when you have looked up at the stars? The sense that somewhere out there lies something much greater than what you know? Or perhaps you stand at the pinnacle of your world, and cannot think of anything beyond it. It matters little in the end.

Synthesis is a beautiful thing, genesis the most glorious of all sights to behold, and you have been given the rare chance to participate in the greatest of all creations yet attempted by mortal or god as may be the case. Whatever you know of divinity, know that in the end you have yet to witness the true expanse of newness- yet to see the light that comes with the death croak of all universes.

You may be willing and eager now. Unlikely, but we could always hope. More likely, you are confused, depressed, angry, perhaps all of these things at once. You shall see many things, meet many people, and feel many feelings. Perhaps you'll never find peace in the end. It matters little in the end.

Because it is only the beginning, after all. Sleep well, our precious myth. Your tale is just begun.

-Anonymous, Letter received by all participants

And my character entry.

Name: Steamer

Series of Origin: World Of Tropes

Personality and History (Brief): A loner who spends his off-time building things or playing video games. Plans for important encounters, but he normally just maks it up as he goes. He hates taking orders from those he did not grant authority over him such as a kidnapper or, well, S'PAWN. Tries to resist change, but dumps his former position wholesale if change is inevitable. Steamer is preparing a vehicle to continue his adventures in space. His past exploits, in chronological order, were working as a courier for a city mail system, a mechanic aboard a luxury train, a apprentice adventurer sidekick to a heroine, and wandering the multiverse for about a year and a half.

Powers (Pre-S'PAWN): A 10-year old (sort of, see the Other section) Gadgeteer Genius who can build things in a fraction of the time it would take normally. Also has Hollywood Hacking skills and has trained himself in Le Parkour. Has a jetpack which could obviously be taken from him, but it's disguised as a more unremarkable leather backpack and would probably be thought to be such until it is witnessed in use. *

Modus (Fetch and Stife): App Modus and an unallocated Specibus (he'll find something I'm guessing), the former is fully integrated with...

Communication Device: An iPhone parody called the iToy. Steamer usually uses it to hack into machinery, but the equipment in the Medium may or may not be "hackable" (depending on whether or not the players feel it's not godmoding).

Contact Name and Typing Quirk: steampunkGadgeteer. Uses txt spk and japanese emoticons like the ^_^ face. Unless he thinks he's got plenty of time to waste, in which case he'll use proper grammar.

Mythological Role: Mage of Rifts. Steamer ceases to exist in a timeline the moment it branches off from the Alpha, as regardless of timelines, only the Alpha timeline Steamer can exist, no matter which timeline Steamer chooses to be in. He also appears to have no dream selves, instead appearing again in the tower on Prospit upon death. Whether he can do this multiple times is most likely wishful thinking, but judging by the effect of his aspect on his role, and his past experience with traveling between many fictional universes, it could be said he has "Plot Armor".

Lands: Land of Tracks and Switches

Denizen: Eris

Planet: Prospit

Kernelsprite: Mousprite, created by prototyping XE-1, an AI that Steamer created and was storing on a floppy disk during his recent travels, and a strange (seemingly biological) mouse he found with a USB plug on it's tail. Feel free to take control of Mousprite, though I'll try to warn you if I need it for plans of mine.

Other: Though he once fell into a Fountain of Youth (on his 10th birthday, awkwardly enough), it has no bearing on the Super Weight or anything except background information due to the fountain only halting aging and providing "eternal" life. He's not any more immune to injury than he was before the incident, and is pretty much an "Iron Weight" at most as far as vulnerability to weapons and hazards.

EDIT: After taking the tests I added to the first post, I have decided that "Mage" fits Steamer far better than "Page". Probably coincidence that they rhyme.tongue Also, according to said tests Steamer would have the Mage of Time aspect, but since I'm using a custom aspect that isn't true. (Keep that in mind if you use a partially custom title, and just ignore the half that you've customized.)

EDIT 2: And now the other half has been changed. Mage of Rifts it is. Also his starting planet and Denizen are different too.

How's this?

Name: Jeffrey Lewis (Wizard name: Manaspark Truesight.)

Series of Origin: World of Tropes

Personality and History (Brief): Jeffrey lives in Cronoma, a land where everything is Twenty Minutes In The Future. Jeffrey manages to stand out by being the only person in his city to live in a weathered stone tower as opposed to the sleek chrome buildings that are the norm. He mostly keeps to himself aside from his online friends, who he acts rather nice to.

Powers (Pre-S[X]): He can use basic healing magic, but his true strength lies in illusion spells.

Modus (Fetch and Stife): Summoning Modus, and Wand Kind.

Communication Device: The Eye Of Malgoroth, which allows him to communicate entirely through thought. This was gained when Jeffrey killed Malgoroth, dug out his own eye, and then placed Malgoroth's eye in the empty socket.

Contact Name and Typing Quirk: blindedVisionary, and you ———<> Put your wands at the beginning of your sentences.

Mythological Role: Prince of Truth. Jeffrey already knows quite a bit about creating illusions. He uses it daily to make his tower look like a regular chrome building.

Land: Land of Quiet and Moonlight.

Denizen: Hypnos, God of sleep and dreams.

Planet: Prospit

Kernelsprite: Spellbook and Magic Dust (Magic Ashes) of dragon familiar.

Other: Plays Squishy Wizard entirely straight.

WHEN'S MAHVEL?
  • Name: Dan
  • Series of Origin: Dan Vs.
  • Personality and History (Brief): Dan is an angry man. It's a fact of life, even if he's less than willing to acknowledge it. He is a petty creature, liable to take offense at even the slightest mistake and even more liable to pin the blame for his troubles on some outside force. When angered, Dan is near unshakable in his conviction, stopping at nothing to exact his vengeance on anyone who may have slighted him, whether the transgression was real or imagined. Over all he views his fellow man with a distinct measure of contempt. He's not entirely without mercy, though, and has been known to display feelings of affection or kindness on occasion. Dan is incredibly immature, thinking only of himself and not considering the ramifications of his actions.

Why he's like this, nobody is quite sure of. Some say that the result of his misanthropy was a childhood accident involving clowns, but he's a bit touchy on the subject. Dan lives in Las Angeles, California in a beaten up, low-rent apartment with only his cat to keep him company. He frequently pesters his lifelong friend, the word 'friend' being used loosely, for favors or to draft him into whatever revenge scheme he's concocted this week.

  • Powers (Pre-S[X]): Dan has a strange patchwork of knowledge, having acquired knowledge on topics from Shakespearian theater to blacksmithing, though its difficult to tell what he may know on any given topic and there are large holes in his knowledge of most things. Additionally, he's recently been trained in the woefully obscure martial art of fight-dancing, which is exactly what it sounds like.
  • Fetch Modus: Lethality Index. Captchalogued items are cataloged by their effectiveness as improvised weapons. Dan can only call on the currently most lethal item he has stored.
  • Strife Specibus: Fistkind, though he's more than willing to reallocate his specibus if he comes across a more effective weapon and if he can figure out how to perform such an action in the first place.
  • Communication Device: A smartphone that Dan 'borrowed' from Elise some time ago.
  • Contact Name and Typing Quirk: nemesisUnfettered. Types with normal spelling and grammar, for the most part, types in allcaps when annoyed, which is often. Uses a lot of angry emoticons.
  • Mythological Role: Thief of Rage. Dan is able to sap the fighting spirit of his foes, increasing his ferocity and attack power in battle while decreasing that of his enemies. However, Dan will have some difficulty controlling his abilities, if he receives them at all.
  • Lands: Land of Mulch and Bones
  • Denizen: Phobos
  • Planet: Derse
  • Kernelsprite: Brumblesprite, created by first prototyping Dan's teddy bear, "Brutus", then his (female) cat, Mr. Mumbles.
quoth the raven, “ahaha, if you change it around, your name is totally Edgar Allen POO! Poo instead of poe, hahaha”
Both accepted. Just got to wait for one more person to even out between Prospit and Derse, which in all likelyhood will either be my brother who has shown interest in the concept, or deathpigeon.

EDIT: idea I'm PMing deathpigeon, actually...

Anarchy is Order
Interest. Working on sign-up.
I hope I haven't confused anyone with my constant editing. I was way too hasty with my original write-up of the rules, and both the character sheet template and my character's info. If you made a mistake due to my changes, feel free to PM me and I'll help you sort it out.

Also, I highly recommend the two tests that I added in the first post, but I won't be making them mandatory by any means.

...Why "Ports", then, instead of "Lines"? I don't see where that aspect name is coming from.

Expressing interest - right now, I'm thinking... Atsuro Kihara.

"Only now, after being besieged by a flock of talking ponies, did he really understand what he'd lost. "
Dude, Awe Striker? Been forever since I've seen you around. (Katsuun here, incidentally)
Best of the best.
@Awe Striker: I guess you never did the research. Aspect names are abstract, or something. Not literal, anyway. Sure Dave may be the Knight of Time and thus can time travel, but Rose as the Seer of Light doesn't see light. She sees "fortune". "Breath" means "air".

Basically, a good 50% of the second half of the titles is roundabout.

My logic is that "Ports" means the gateways/teleportation used to traverse realities and timelines are not a place in space or a period of time so much as openings in the walls between realities, a type of door or "portal". I'd use portal, but the titles never use words with more than one syllable apparently. "Mage of Doors" sounds kind of stupid to me.

"Land of Ships and Trains" probably contradicts what I just said, but it was spur of the moment thinking, so sue me. I'm in the process of making plans for both that make at least some sense. Also, who said they had to be sea-bound (or even space-bound) "ships"?

By all means though, if you can think of more flaws, point them out. There's probably at least one wrinkle I have no defense or solution for, that I'm going to have to iron out like the fixes to the rules I did this morning.

EDIT: Crap, ninja'd! I really wish posts had previews...

Oh! I had no idea. Yeah, I've been super busy, but I'm still bored! Go figure.

As for "that"... I'm not interested in rejoining it.

[up]Well, I knew that much. But still, a good number of them are straightforward, and "ports" just... sounds wrong. There's no flow in it like the other aspects have, and/or it's plural rather than singular. I guess the name just doesn't appeal to me! But as for your other reasoning... "rifts", maybe? That could work. It's at least a whole word...

On another note, I think I have my signup for this figured out...

  • Name: Atsuro Kihara
  • Series of Origin: Shin Megami Tensei - Devil Survivor in particular
  • Personality and History: While he was born and raised in Japan, his parents worked in Silicon Valley, which led him to become an Internet denizen and adept programmer*; he takes opportunities to explain tech stuff without much thought. Typically, he sticks by his friends (or at the very least, his closest friend, whose name shall go unrevealed by any means necessary). It wasn't too long ago that a set of altered COMPs (Communication Player, basically the equivalent of a 3DS) summoned demons on the two and a third friend, Yuzu Tanikawa. The ensuing week was something of a nightmare; a large portion of Tokyo was without electricity and cut off from the rest of the world (it was a government cover-up; they knew about the whole "demon" thing beforehand.) They got out OK somehow, and, until now, things were fine...
  • Powers (pre-S____): The altered COMP has two main functions: 1) enable its wielder to summon and control demons and 2) enable its wielder to fight demons without dying a horrible death - a demon would one-shot any normal human. However, this "Harmonizer" function only activates in the presence of (hostile?) demons, so he's normal unless one shows up. Or he summons one. It depends, really. His skills when under the effects of Harmonizer tend to make him more of a physical brawler.
  • Fetch Modus: Chain, which prevents him from storing or retrieving single items - it has to be done in groups.
  • Strife Specibus: Unknown, but likely fistkind.*
  • Com. Device: Atsuro further modified his COMP by adding an IM client, although he also carries a laptop (what else would that big orange bag he carries around be for?)
  • Contact Name, Typing Quirk: Goes by AT-LOW via email, but (unknown)* using IM/pesterchum/whatever. Types normally - syntax is extremely important when coding.
  • Mythical Role: Sage of Mind. His powers, while for now entirely dormant, have the potential to implant ideas and thoughts into his enemies' heads.
  • Land: Land of Rifts and Cables
  • Denizen: Psyche
  • Sprite: Angelsprite, created by prototyping a figurine he had lying around with an Angel. I'll handle Angelsprite (but you'll get to decide who the figurine is of.)

"Only now, after being besieged by a flock of talking ponies, did he really understand what he'd lost. "
Rifts! Perfect. Thanks, that's a great idea. Looking over your character now...

EDIT: Approved. Is Derse okay for your dream self planet? You didn't specify, and it would balance it out. I'll start on the Discussion and RP topics.

Yeah, Derse is fine.
"Only now, after being besieged by a flock of talking ponies, did he really understand what he'd lost. "
I'd just like to mention that the signups will remain open indefinitely, since two other people have expressed interest but have yet to submit their applications.

Hey there. This is iTroper's brother, using a character of my own creation.

Name: Stardust Celestial

Series of Origin: Stardust Celestial, Treasure Hunter (The Celestial Multiverse, Universe #002)

Personality and History (Brief): Stardust is the supposedly-orphaned child CEO of a technology company called Celestial Machines, Inc.. He's pretty immature, lazy and sarcastic, but has an unseen brilliance and ability to plan that he doesn't often show to others. He also has a dry wit and a natural dislike of people who try to exert control over others, particularly Straw Feminists. In general, Stardust dedicates his life to having fun, and no matter the situation, he's nearly constantly either laid-back or upbeat... unless you ask him to do something that he really doesn't want to do.

Powers (Pre-S'PAWN): Stardust has the ability to move at super speed, as well as a remarkable ability to build robots. It's rumored he may also be either Genre Savvy or psychic, but these are probably just rumors. Probably.

Modus (Fetch and Strife): Subversion Modus (Categorizes items based on how useful they are at making the current situation go in a new direction), yoyoKind.

Communication Device: A silver clamshell-style cell phone.

Contact Name and Typing Quirk: gameWizard, perfect grammar.

Mythological Role: Heir of Will

Lands: Land of Paths and Forest

Denizen: Atropos

Planet: Prospit

Kernelsprite: Lindasprite (mounted werewolf head + Linda)

Other: Stardust is a creature called a Celestial. He's a rabbit-like extraterrestrial, covered from head to toe in frictionless lime-green fur. His ears are large half-circles which are detached from his head and float in the air. He generally wears a pair of circular sunglasses, white gloves and black sneakers. Finally, he lives in a penthouse suite with his cousin Nebula and his robot secretary, Linda.

Approved, although in the end I would have preferred a character with skills that don't overlap those of the current roster for more variety. Also, wasn't Celetiverse 1 Stardust supposed to have actual, on-screen parents in your story?

Currently waiting on deathpigeon, but everyone else can jump right in. I figure it'll be impossible to keep the Prospit/Derse balance right.

I agree, we really do need some non-techies...
"Only now, after being besieged by a flock of talking ponies, did he really understand what he'd lost. "
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
