Sorry, wasn't implying we wouldn't lock, was just emphasizing the cleaning part. My ideal proposal would be a combination of clean, move to JFF (or Useful Notes) and lock, but that's apparently just not gonna happen.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?I still think that member lists should be removed too. If you identify with one of these factions, you can say so on your troper page. There's no benefit to having the members listed, especially if some of the names were originally just there as signatures to accompany a bile-filled comment.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!When the pages began, they were fun things that didn't attract anything bad. Seeing as they have been being taken more seriously, comments can no longer be trusted to be civil. However, a list of names isn't an inherantly bad thing, and provided there is a notice about no comments and all, I don't see how they could become bad there.
The descriptions would be the only place where things could go wrong. However, if the tone and content of those is made more neutral, discouraging negative/personal/whatever stuff in the first place, and someone is willing to check up on them every so often, those wouldn't be an issue either. If the members lists are kept, descriptions might need curating anyway, at least for a while after whatever action is taken. If they aren't, locking is common sense – what would anyone have to add?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Considering the fact that the discussion had to be nuked twice because of vitriol, we can no longer trust the idea of comments. A list of members, however, does not strike me as problematic. We should probably monitor the page for good measure, as well.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerEasiest solution: no member list. Doesn't add any real information, anyway.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyOn second thought, upvoting both the member list and no member list options as I am getting the feeling that they just enhance factionalism.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI don't like the fact that they are divisive, but as a non-cutlery member, I can't say whether the names add anything of note.

Couldn't help myself.

I am tempted to go to Made of Forum Win, but I'll restrain myself.
EDIT: Oh, fuck restraint, I'll just go.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerAs a cutlery member, I'd say that names without comments are as interesting as looking through any list of plain names – mostly bland, with a couple smiles if you recognise someone. That could* just be me, though, seeing as in practice my position is closer to SPOONS and PLATTER than the FORKS I support in theory.
I guess I have no reason to complain at them going. It would be the easiest solution. But I'd still like keep them if possible – sans comments.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. At best, it's a harmless diversion. At worst, it encourages factionalism. Not sure the one is worth the other.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That acronym is worth something though.
Yeah, I'm still laughing.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerAgreed with purging the member lists. I want to keep these around more as an article of Wiki History and some fun acronyms, but an active list just encourages factionalization.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation. As a non-cutlery member, would it be okay to purge the list from this site and then create an off-site list of members that could be linked to?
to the fast one. Once this clears over, can we add to TABLE?
One Piece blog Beyond the LampshadeGiven some of the peoples' tendency to spill their bile onto other pages, I don't think linking to an off-site member list is a good idea. It would just give them something, or worse, someone to hurl at. In summary, Defining Rivalries Is Not Kosher.
Such Awesome Little Truths. I agree with removing the member lists to stop the fighting. The TABLE page would be good to have around for wiki history purposes. I like to keep the Wiki Archives.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!Joining Acronymic Leagues Alters People's Entire Notions Of Sense. They should be gone.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.32 Steps: Lol. Nice I agree. They are pointless.
Who watches the watchmen?That's brilliant.
Update: Crowner is in the third day. Consolidating at TABLE with no member list is now at +25 (35:10), while keeping the member list has fallen to +17 (37:20). No other options are positive.
I am frankly surprised that there hasn't been a rush of comments from people noting the lock and admin message on all of those articles.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sadly, I'm sure we'll get a flood of vitriol and complaints after we do something.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Is this worth a Headline? I recognize that the vitriol will happen no matter what we do, but this particular action would seem to be playing directly into the basic complaints that those folks have — fueling the fire, as it were.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I would say yes, although I would watch out for complainers. A headline will likely pull them all out of their haunts and make them come here. Use with caution.

Crown Description:
Some of the cutlery pages have been shown to attract vitriol. What would be the best way to fix this? Note: Not all options below are mutually exclusive, but some are. Please exercise judgment
I'd like to point out that if we found a work page with this much vitriol and people compulsively adding it back after staff members removing it, it would be locked, not just cleaned.
