I have $10 for online shopping right now, should I buy discounted Shogun II, buy things on Humble Bundle Android 2, or put downtown Kickstarter money for this one???

Can't decide...

Am binging Sono Hanabira (and other yuri stuff).
FTL is at 1000% funding. They really don't need the money, unless you're feeling exceptionally generous.

That said, I donated to FTL about a week ago. Think we should start a Kickstarter thread?

Good lord.

What are they going to do with 125000 bucks to make a roguelike?
Jonah Falcon
Market it, for one. Run dedicated servers. Hire people to help expand and pretty-fy it. And so on.

I see the Awesomeness.
Interesting. How much are they gonna sell it for?

Somewhere between $5-20 as average for indie games.

Is it out? On what platforms? Do you need a gaming PC to run it?

Looks interesting. Hopefully the release version will actually put an outpost near to your starting point, though. . .

Since I only did the basic pledge, I only got access to the beta now.

This game is addictive and fun as hell. Heavily recommend it. Starting a trope page for it.

EDIT: First draft. I'll work more on this later.

Hmm, dunno if I have time to play today =/ Then again, I'm probably gonna play something, so might as well test this out

Okay, this IS fun game, and yeah, it IS roguelike :P(talking about how I died, I died because I refused to give one of my crew members to zoltan(because he was apparently criminal) so I didn't have time to ftl jump away and four zoltans killed everyone)

Okay, this game is addicting.

Little info about it: Plot is that you have important data about federation and you have to get it to some sector before rebel scum(who defeated federation) catches you. In gameplay that means that each time you do ftl jump they get closer so you can't stay in one sector for long. There are lots of different sorts of more or less beneficial random events and items and ship parts for you to get. You can destroy enemies, destroy their systems and make them surrender and probably more once you can teleport your crew members into enemy ship.(There was event involving attack by some legendary mantis general guy, once I defeated his ship and killed em all there was message about how you feel like something is left unknown for ever so I guess having him alive would have given alternative stuff. Update: Reading from list of unlockable ships, it appears you can get his ship)

So far missiles are uber(but you have limited amount of them and they are expensive) as they bypass shields and destroy (weaker) ship systems in one hit. Though I'm playing on easy, so harder ships don't appear. On other hand, almost every time my ship is boarded I lose. Only time i won I had rock alien crew member help beat them up(second time when it was mantis aliens it didn't help =( Everyone died. Darn mantises.)

Again, my current ship has only one crew member left because mantises killed everyone else. And I didn't defeat those mantises, they disappeared after I defeated their ship(they teleported in). Mantises are so far very bad new even on easy. Report: I recruited one crew member at shop and got mantis crew member by making slave traders surrender. Then died anyway because four pirates out of nowhere(in pirate controlled section) boarded ship.)

This game totally has spirit of roguelikes in death department :D Also, if rebel fleet catches you, its not auto game over, you just get attacked and have to get away. Problem being that now you get attacked every time you jump to next star :P Unless you can jump enough far away

So anyway, final boss is very hard :P Managed to beat once on easy(Note: I'm not sure if there are any difference between normal and easy besides amount of scrap you get, though description says that easy setting doesn't have harder random enemies)

First phase isn't bad since its gimmick is just becoming invisible. Second phase is where it kind of cheats, whats with laser drone spam :P And because of its defense drones, you can't missile its drone system so you either have to teleport bombs(since it still has ton of crew left by that point you can't just send your crew to do it) or just have strong enough lasers to get through shields. Only time I got to third phase is time I won, its gimmick this time is having super special beam spam attack. Which can be nicely avoided with cloak(though to be honest, you kind of NEED cloak to get through second phase's drone spam because of how deadly those drones are and how many there are :P), but if you don't avoid it by that means, it does do ton of damage. On first time I got to phase three I got lucky in that only two crew members were alive and they were on guns so they couldn't repair shields or anything, so no guarantee that next time I get to phase three it will be as easy. BTW, no trying to kill all crew, apparently if you do that, ship AI activates and starts auto repairing every system :P

So far I've played 18 hours and had 31 games and only beat final boss once.(and at least one of those is normal playthrough) Though to be fair, I beat final boss first time I used other ship other than The Kestrel(aka beginning ship) :P So only like two of those are with The Red-Tail(Unlockable alternative layout version of The Kestrel)

Man, I thought the whole goal was just to get to the end and then the game springs that damn boss. I didn't stand a chance since I had sold my missile launcher and couldn't drop its shields.

Game is still awesome though.

How long is the game exactly? It doesn't seem like a single game is going to be that long, from the looks...(not like that's necessarily a bad thing, if there's replayability)

Yeah, theres ton of replayability :P To be honest, most roguelikes aren't actually that long, Dungeons of Dredmor for example. Only reason why it takes so long to complete is that you die a lot. Anyway, there are 9 ships to unlock plus alternative version of them to unlock too. There are lots of weapons, augments, systems, different playstyles(though some ones are obviously easier to beat final boss with), for example every ship and their alternative layout plays differently and random events so yes I would say there is ton of replayability.

Well, its kinda hard to say, about hour if you can make it to the end? I'm not sure, you can clearly see that I didn't survive till sector 8 in most of my playthroughs tongue Plus those were on easy, on normal it should be even harder.

Okay, after having played normal for while, I have to say it IS harder than easy by far... For example, there are more drone using ships which can screw you over if you get your shields down.

Yeah, the game itself isn't long but you're going to die. A LOT. Even on easy. The length is also somewhat increased by the fact that despite you being chased by the fleet you will want to explore to find those other unlockable ships (which I still haven't found, other than the one automatically unlocked in Sector 5). Not to mention that if you keep dashing madly from sector to sector chances are your ship won't be strong enough to face the final boss.

Yup(BTW, they give hints for each ship on list of ships to play), and I imagine normal will be even harder since you get less scrap and harder enemies. Though rebel force is one reason game isn't that long, taking too long and you are pretty much screwed. Though it still takes rather long to search each section and beat the game especially since you aren't going to beat game on first few times(especially on normal) unless you get lucky.
