That was the most serendipitously awesome show I've ever seen. In the end, it's a good thing they had to turn it into a Gag Dub.
I remember some petitions on (the now-defunct) Animeondvd.com asking for a region 1 DVD of Samurai Pizza Cats as far back as 1998. Honestly, I had given up hope a long time ago... so I'm surprised this has finally happened.
So we can get both the original, AND the Gag Dub? Nice move.
This news makes me one happy cat-lover. I will be sure to buy BOTH releases.
visit my blog! Will Discotech be one to contend with? I have never heard of them.
The only thing I know about Discotek is that they recently finished a subtitled release of the entire Fist of the North Star TV series, plus the first theatrical movie.
If they can finish a whopper like that, then Samurai Pizza Cats should be nothing to them.

UNICO! I remember Unico!
..... what is that couple doing on the top header of the sitHOLY CRAP HIDE YOUR CHILDREN!
Wait, they're doing Unico?!?!?!?!?!
visit my blog! What are they doing with D.N. Angel? Yeah, Discotek's modus operandi is basically license rescues of things that might do well. Two of their earlier things were the Galaxy Express 999 movies.
Not Three Laws compliant. Now we have to find out how good their quality is, and they can be my new favorite anime distributor!
Yet they also seem to have a bit of Porn under their label too, if Sexual Parasite is anything to say.
....................Wait, was that PROJECT-AKO!?
I love these guys already.

Watch SymphogearMedia Blasters had hentai.
.... what is it with studios distributing porn along with anime?????
"Media Blasters — purveyors of fine pornography!" — Professor Otaku (it was during JO's review of Eiken — not a hentai, but might as well be)
Media Blaster's big thing now is Queens Blade. What do you expect?

Softcore/pinku, if you want to be specific. I see Discotek as more of a cult movie distributor than an anime one. They've also licensed Animal Treasure Island and Puss in boots, both of which have Hayao Miyazaki as one of the key animators and at least the former one was certainly an influence on Wind Waker.
Media Blasters is also responsible for Ika Musume, but not the dub, just the DVD production. It varies.
I guess while a lot of people don't really want to talk about it, it still sells.
Not Three Laws compliant.I don't really see the need to separate the dub and the sub. I mean, on one hand, you get a brilliant dub, but on the other hand, you get two additional episodes. It doesn't really seem too fair to me.
But that's just me talking. I'd probably end up getting both anyway.
Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Segregating the dub and sub happens because the dubbed episodes are edited and thus have different runtimes than the uncut subbed episodes. They'd have to edit the soundtrack to make it fit, basically.
visit my blog! Not all dubbed episodes are edited to have a different run time.
Having seen both versions, I can say that the dub is drastic enough that it almost assuredly has no episodes that are at the same running times.
Even if some of them had the same runtime, it would just be easier to release them seperately, as otherwise they would have to halve the number of episodes per disc.
Not Three Laws compliant.Besides, the intro sequences for both versions are different.
The North American video distributor Discotek Media revealed on Monday that it will be releasing the entire Samurai Pizza Cats (Kyattou Ninden Teyandee) anime series on home video. According to the post, the company will be selling separate subtitled and dubbed releases of the series via box sets — 52 episodes total for the dubbed release and 54 for the subtitled edition — with pricing and number of box sets yet to be determined.
The 1990-91 Tatsunoko "science-fiction historical gag battle anime" revolves arouund Nyankii (Samurai Pizza Cats), a secret ninja team that protects the robotic animal inhabitants of Edoropolis (Little Tokyo) from the evil ninja organization Karakara.
