S'easy. Nickelback.
THEY'RE
EVERYWHERE
I don't like Nickelback, but I will say that it seems like their hatedom isn't based on the actual music so much as the fact that they happen to be the most successful band in a much hated genre. After all, we don't have Creed to kick around anymore *.
Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage. When I think "overhated," I usually think of Avenged Sevenfold.

Avenged Sevenfold? B-but they're so bland.
I now see Avenged Sevenfold are quite silly, in addition to being bland.

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.I can only speak for myself, but my antipathy for Nickelback stems from how they could've gotten so popular while being so goddamn bland. (Blander than Avenged Sevenfold!) It just...speaks ill for the public's listening tastes, I guess.
Anyway, I think that Progressive Rock in general gets hated on a lot even though it doesn't really deserve it.
no one will notice that I changed thisNickelback sing about timeless themes that resonate with the common man!!!!
Like sex!!!!
And being lonely!!!!

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well. And I have never encountered this hate towards Prog Rock.
Although my dad said it's a thing.

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.I suspect it to be more among music critics than anything.
The average person probably doesn't care either way
no one will notice that I changed thisI'm going to nominate Cradle of Filth and Green Day. Basically they pop-ify genres that usually aren't supposed to be used for pop-purposes. So what?
No, this isn't the "Agree with people on Overhated Music" thread, it's the "Overhated music" thread.
That said, I don't really mind either Cradle Of Filth (*To be fair, I've never listened to Cradle Of Filth*) or Green Day (*At least I don't dislike them any more than my usual dislike for Punk and it's direct descendants would indicate*) Though I see why people would be upset by the commercialization of a genre they hold dear.
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.Well, disagreeing adamantly in a thread like this is pretty counterproductive in its own way. It basically says "No, they deserve the hate the receive" in a subtle manner.
Now I'm nominating Linkin Park. They seem completely harmless (both to people's music tastes and their genre as a whole) so I can't see what they've ever done to deserve the scorn they've received in the past and currently.
Speaking of Linkin Park, I'd have to say Nu Metal in general gets more hate than it deserves. Really, it's mostly hated by metal "purists" who don't like it when people fuse genres.

Fall Out Boy, definitely. At least around here.
Apparently listening to them makes me a faggot as well.... n___n
and the trouble is, other than Patrick's unique vocal style (which I happen to like!!) or lyrical attributes (sometimes a bit...extreme, and maybe a bit narmy at times), I just don't see the major problem with them.
I never really listened to Fall Out Boy, but I liked what little I heard, even if I wasn't impressed with the musicianship.
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well. For some reason a lot of metal heads hate Manowar (and a lot love them) don't know why
Also known as Achillesforever6 of Lordkat.com fameFall Out Boy's okay, but they try too hard to be "quirky" for my tastes. Green Day I love.
Who would I say is hated too much? The Jonas Brothers. They're teenage girl oriented pop, yes, but they actually have some talent, as hard as that be be for you to believe. Plus, they actually write their own music. You gotta give 'em props for that at least.
I also think The Naked Brothers Band gets a bit too much flack from people, but I'm not gonna say their music was anything spectacular. For being written by a 12-14 year old, though, it could be MUCH worse. And their movie is some pretty amusing parody (though not exactly Spinal Tap, obviously).

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.edited 8th Mar '12 6:43:11 PM by mcb01932
I will admit, "Video Games" is the most dreadfully funny song I've ever heard.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Yes, but for all the wrong reasons.
EDIT: Yeah, I didn't see that before I posted, and by then I didn't have anything to change it to.

I did put that "dreadfully" in there for a reason.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I seriously do not understand the violent hatred for this song. The invective directed at this harmless pop tune is really something I will never comprehend. I actually liked this song when I was younger. It’s still something of a guilty pleasure. I can think of many, many songs (many of them hits the same year as this one) that are much more offensive.

Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!I also think the Jonas Brothers were hated on way too much. Looking back, they were not too bad at all, and they are far better then the dance-pop we see today.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.
Inspired by threads like this. Post whatever musician/band/genre gets undeserved hate, in your opinion.
