Bounty Hunters: Apocalypse:

Aleart peeked at Ross, as somewhat her infantile mind giggled as if everything had been a game. "Ladies first!" she yelled as she flew past the group.

Dean followed after the little girl, taking out his flashlight to light the path, "Be aware, because we maybe walking into a nest if we´re not careful." As he walked down the stairs, he couldn´t help unlatching the strap keeping his sword in its sheath. Many time that sword had saved his life and because of that it was his prized possesion.

The sniper kept to the rear of the group, prepared to act as support should the group encounter another pack of the undead... or worse.

Of course, Jadis also knew the risks of rearguard. Monsters had a tendency to find hidey holes, emerging after their prey had already past through. In the cases of walkers, it was generally due to their slowness in rising due to rigor.

She kept alert, straining to make out any noise.

THE SLORG!
"Given all the zombies, I think we're most certainly walking into a nest. I think they're mostly dead now though" Ross said behind Alearth and Dean, a little surprised that the little demon rushed ahead but not objecting yet.

Down the stairs the air was somewhat stale and dusty, and the smell of death hung in the air leaving a bad aftertaste. The stairs opened up into a basement storage room with no windows; rows of mostly empty shelves ran through the room, and discarded cardboard boxes littered the floor and a few of the shelves. On the floor to one side near the entrance was what remained of a human skeleton, minus most of the legs and some of the ribs and fingers. It seemed whoever it was had been wearing a shirt and jacket, but those had been torn to shreds and seemed caked with dried blood, as was the floor around the skeleton.

As Ross saw it, he aimed at it, knowing that the dark forces occasionally raised skeletons to do undead work as well; but after seeing the state it was in and nudging its head with his foot, he decided it probably wasn't an undead. Alearth, with her soul detection, would already know that it wasn't undead.

From deeper in the room came a walker moan, but the sound of footsteps or dragged feet was absent. Ross turned that way with his flashlight, but didn't see it yet through the shelves. At the far end of the room, the walker was stuck under a shelf that had fallen over onto it, and was making futile attempts to crawl towards the group.

Meanwhile, Blight waited upstairs, and began to hum.

"AHAHAHAHAH!" Aleart giggled as she pointed at the walker and laughed. For further fun, she grabbed a stick and began poking the creature. "Dead thing is stuck, how cute!"

Heading around the shelves, Ross raised an eyebrow at the walker and Alearth. "Well, a zombie that's stuck. Opportunity like that doesn't come along every day. Might as well just kill it... Unless... Nah, never mind" Ross said, first raising his shotgun then thinking better of it.

The zombie wasn't a threat and couldn't really move all that much. Why use a shotgun round on it? He looked around at who else was in the basement, and settled on Dean after seeing the sword. "That thing's not just a prop, right?* Why don't you bring that over so we can save ammo?" Ross suggested, then turned back to the walker. After another moment of thought, Ross put one foot up onto the fallen shelf, to put more weight on it and keep the walker more still.

Dean at the moment was kneeling next to the skeleton on the floor, praying for the person to whom the bones belonged when he heard Ross speak to him. "This sword is not a mere fake. It is more than real, as many demons have come to know its blade and strength.", Dean replied standing up as he unsheathed the sword rather gracefully, as he had through years of use. As he lifted the sword he uttered a small prayer and in a flash removed the walkers head, avoiding Ross's foot and the demon child poking it. Then once again with practised ease he sheathed the swords once more.

"Well, looks like that's finished then" Ross said, taking his foot off the shelf. "Let's sweep the rest of the place. I wouldn't expect to find any more monsters upstairs instead of down here, but stay alert" he added, looking around the room.

"Maybe we can find something useful too" Ross muttered, walking down one isle of shelves. Meanwhile, Clark would find the room mostly ransacked; what boxes were still around were empty save for items like medical records that scavengers would have no interest in.

There was however, one thing of notable interest. A cardboard box sideways on the floor, that by guess someone had been stuffing things into. Included in the box or on the floor just next to it, possibly from the box falling, were two small bottles of drugs, an IV bag full of blood, and a roll of bandages that looked old but still usable. There was also another roll of bandages that looked squished as if stepped on.

Jadis bent low, and touched the IV. The bag of blood looked relatively new, but it hadn't been refridgerated, and was thus useless, except possibly as a lure for a walker. "A pity. Not many donors these days." She then picked up one of the pill bottles. Squinting in the darkness, she read the label aloud, before shrugging, and pocketing it in her rucksack.

"The blood has me questioning mission parameters, but only a little. Obviously, looters have taken everything useful long ago."

"It was likely what the child was gathering prior to either our interruption or that of the zombies." Clark said. "He was also likely the cause of the trapped zombie. It is entirely possible that the child has someone injured that he needs medical supplies for, which he now lacks."

Ross looked thoughtful for a moment as Jadis pocketed the Tylenol. "I dunno, something doesn't add up; looked like the kid had been squatting upstairs, or at least someone had" Ross pointed out, recalling the make-shift bed. "Plus it's not like runners to give up the chase that easily. They spot you they don't usually give up until they're dead or you are"* he added, surveying the scene with his flashlight.

"I'd guess... Maybe it was that guy's" Ross said, motioning at the dead skeleton near the door. "Torn up clothes and missing bones, especially on the limbs? Looks like zombie lunch alright... But then, what's up with the kid living upstairs in that case?" he pondered aloud as he wandered over to the box.

Ross knelt down and picked up the other bottle to look at the label. "Omeprazole?" Ross muttered, lowering his eyebrows as he tried to remember some old memories. "Pain killers and heart burn medicine? Not too bad" he said, putting the bottle in one of his pockets. Then, he proded the blood sack a little and recalled what Jadis said. "We are in a hospital, so I'm not too surprised... Must be at least five years old though; probably no good anymore except maybe for a vampire" Ross mentioned as he stood up. Then, after one last look around the room, he decided to head back up the stairs.

Blight looked around when the group came up.

"Find anything interesting down there?" he asked.

"One long-dead body and another walker that got stuck. Other than that, very few salvageable items" Ross answered, taking the pill bottle out of his pocket for a moment to show Blight.

"I didn't hear any yells, so I assume it's been all quiet up here?" Ross asked, looking for but not finding any new signs of combat. "I'd be surprised if there's anything else in this building, but stay alert anyway" he suggested, glancing back over his shoulder down the stairs.
Lord of the Avians
"How interesting..." Blight said, looking at the pills.

"Nothing special up here, although I did get the tune to 'blowing in the wind' right."

He nodded, and lowered his weapon a little.

Ross stopped and blinked a few times in thought. "Blowing in the Wind? Isn't that from before your time? Or did I miss some new song with the same title?" Ross asked, not expecting the kid to know a song that was released almost four decades before his birth. Before Blight could respond, Ross glanced at the open door to the hallway. "Whatever, let's go clear this place out" he said, and led the way.

Between ten and twenty minutes later, the building had been cleared; indeed empty as far as anything else alive or undead went. Except for broken walls and rubble, there wasn't really anything to scavenge either, save for one dusty but otherwise perfectly fine towel that was in a closet on one of the upper floors. Ross pointed it out but didn't take it, instead leaving it for anyone else to take.

Ross instructed the others to wait outside and keep watch while he took the photo of Stanley out of his pocket. It was about mid-afternoon now, the sun obscured by some clouds like a thin sheet over a ceiling lamp. A couple minutes later Ross emerged, shaking his head. "Well, I don't think any of those bodies are our guy. Even the skeleton doesn't have the right clothes" Ross told them, glancing up at the sky. "We've still got some time before we should head back. Any suggestions?" he added, looking to the group.

Blight grabbed the towel, tying it around his waist.

He didn't have much knowledge of the area, so he remained silent. Moments later, the cat was at his feet, and he picked it up, petting it.

"The only thing that I can think to do is to burn the bodies of the undead. If we can find some tinder, or some broken furniture, we can build a fire. This way they can't spread the virus through some animal feeding off of the remains.", said Dean. Although he didn't say it, part of him wanted to return to the place where they saw the kid. He still had his suspicions about the kid, especially after seeing the hair on the floor.

He had taken some hairs from that area because he had intended to return back to the base and scrutinize it to determine if they were human, but since they had some extra time he thought that he could maybe return to collect more information if possible.

Ross mulled over Dean's suggestion, one hand on his chin. "Well, we certainly could, though that would take a bit. There should be enough stuff to use around here to make a fire" Ross said, indicating the mass of abandoned buildings around. "Anyone else like that idea?" he asked, thinking about where they could start a fire without setting the whole city block ablaze. Probably in the middle of the street.

"We can make sockpuppets!Sockpuppets with zombie heads!" Alearth chided, jumping up and down in excitement with her shrill voice. "And tell that kid to play tag! It will be fun!"

The Man in Black
"I think that whatever that kid's purpose was, he will likely come back once we've left. It would be impolite to burn the place to the ground." Clark pointed out. "In addition, the fire could easily spread to other buildings and there is no fire department to stop it. It achieves little more than destroying a few zombie bodies, and there are enough of those running around that it doesn't really matter."

Ross stared at Alearth a moment, trying to think just how to respond to the comment about zombie heads. Finally he settled on "Uh, no thanks" and left it at that, turning to Clark and Blight.

"Both good points; probably not the best idea then" Ross said, trying to give the 'that's what I thought the whole time, but I wanted you guys to figure it out on your own' impression. "Well then, we either continue the hunt for clues or call it good for the day..." he paused, face going blank for a moment. "I'm getting kind of hungry, so I vote we head back" Ross added, realizing how long it had been since breakfast.

(OOC: Falkon reminded them, not Blight? =P)
