Ambiguous Name: Totally Radical get usage counts

Duuuude! The page Totally Radical is, like, Totally Broken! I mean the wicks are most all over the place. I mean, we have some mondo proper use of this trope, which is any attempt to airquote "attempt to connect with the youth", usually through, like, market guys. But some wicks seem to think the trope has to do with turkeys or something, or thinking that any bitchin' use of slang is this trope, even if it's, like, correct. And some wicks seem to think this trope is about any reference to the "cool" culture of the most awesome decades of all, The Eighties and The Nineties! High five!

Psyche! Too slow!

Anyway, I suggest we have to do some gnarly fixing on this trope:

I also checked about... uh... a lot of wicks and stuff.

Proper use:

Jive Turkey or any use of slang:

80s and 90s culture:

Outright totally using this, like, wrong:

Finally, if you ask nicely, I won't post in this style again.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
Won't do it again? Are you kidding? That was the most awesome TRS thread starter ever!

I do like the name, but I can see how it can be a problem.

Totally Radical Coolness Fail perhaps?

Duuude, DQZ is like, totally giving lessons on how to open TRS with style.

But yeah, this page looks very natterish too.

The Dragon Quest IX is correct IIRC the priest was trying to sound hip but ended up using out of date slang (For the player).

[up]I thought he was a Surfer Dude who became a priest, rather than this trope.

The example says in Batsurg? seems a little unlikely but maybe... I cant remember so many of the priests in that game have funky speech patterns....

Well it still seemed to be more spoofing that way of talking than trying to connect with the kids.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
A long time ago, I launched two tropes, one about the immortality of Totally Radical 80s lingo in advertising, and the other about Flanderization in 80s period pieces. Ultimately, that material was assimilated into The80s, Totally Radical, and a couple of other more general tropes.

You sure crazy taxi is correct? I played it and thought it was Jive Turkey.
Still new. Still learning. Asking questions and making mistakes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Crazy Taxi is Jive Turkey. It's meant to be silly.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

I'd be okay with taking action here. Some sort of rename or transplant or something.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Agreed. There's more misuse than correct use.

Not being able to custom-tag TRS threads anymore is a major bummer. Creative muse demands an outlet!
As far as what the trope description says, the phrase Flailing Pop Culture Mimesis sprung to my mind as a rename. I think the name Totally Radical can probably just become a redirect to The80s.

Parts of the 90s also included that stuff, which is why I think we should have a trope for the "cool" culture around that time, as there are examples that cover that.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
If "that time" is about 1981 to about 1992, that's the eighties, more or less.

Well giving that, it's still more about the "radical" culture than the decade in general.

So what do you all think is the best to do here?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
I found what happened to my last attempt. Still The Eightiess is now Two Decades Behind. Totally Radical could redirect to Two Decades Behind, merging the best bits. My suggestion is to proceed cautiously.

That trope is not locked into that decade, so that wouldn't really work.

Also, I'm going to look at Jive Turkey and see if it needs help.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
So, should Totally Radical be an early 80s to early 90s specific trope about lingo, fashions, and pop cultural touchstones? Or am I misunderstanding the direction you want to explore.

[up]You got it right.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
Totally Radical does have a lot of overlap with Two Decades Behind. It's about trying to appeal to kids based on mistaken adult ideas about kids—one of the ways these ideas can be mistaken is that they are two decades behind, but they can also be exaggerated or wrong in other ways.

I don't think it need be specifically about 80's and 90's. Even Totally Radical itself says that the slang can be misdated or awkwardly misused. Having awful unrealistic 2010-era slang is still Totally Radical even though it has nothing to do with the 80's and 90's.

Bad slang is Jive Turkey, not this.
