Why did you bump this? It was still near the top of the page...

No one likes a bumper.

Dude, who cares? They cite low viewership and I can sure as hell believe that. If I want to watch something that Funi has licensed, I'll go to their freakin' website, where I can watch whatever's available exactly when I want to for free.

Just in case anyone actually saw it. This anime/manga section updates fast and some threads get buried into the bottom of the page where they're less likely to be posted on.

[up]"Free" doesn't keep producing anime.

Well, Funi's site has advertising, you know. It's not like they don't make money off it.

Besides, I've bought plenty of Funi DVDs as well.

Again, I really don't care about the Funimation Channel, and I think most other people also don't care.

Facebook would like to have a word with you.

And yes, I buy DV Ds as well. It's just that Verizon is among the FEW carriers of their channel, the LAST anime-exclusive linear channel in the US, and it's the one I watch the most. But this thread isn't made because of just my own opinions. As stated, FB users are up in arms about this and I am simply spreading the word.

I'm watching my anime fansubbed, Funimation biting the dust would just improve that.

I've personally found other methods of getting my anime fix, but I won't lie and not care about it being gone. The channel basically began my anime fix in the first place; through it I've gone through series like Black Cat and Revolutionary Girl Utena, and gained my love for Mahou Sensei Negima which helped me get into TV Tropes in the first place.

Then again, I stopped watching the channel because the selection was starting to go stale on me. At least their website's still going strong.

[up]Improve...how, exactly? I understand the whole Dub Vs Sub debate, but I don't see how the loss of one really affects the other.

Fansubbing is free.

FU Nimation dubbing is not free.

Which one do you think enables them to continue distributing anime?

[up]Yes.

You were saying about Funimation biting the dust?

...

OOOOH! OH you are AGAINST them stopping fansubs! Ooooooohh IIII see. Well if you watch fansubs of anime only, you may be on the wrong thread. If professionally distributed anime is less available, that will only eventually cause the fall of anime all together. Don't think one has nothing to do with the other.

It doesn't help that we had not ONLY 4 other news reports of anime failing in the States, but also these 4 news reports all came WITHIN THE PAST MONTH AND A HALF!

[up][up][up]Anime is being produced from the profit of DVD sales, even in Japan, the original late-night airing itself is free, and also available on nico nico. Financially, it's not a factor to the producers.

Funimation's dubbed TV airings are made long after a series already ran it's course in Japan, with an already stabilized sales result. Their purpose is to support their own creation costs (the dubs).

At least if the company would be limited to subbed online simulcast releases, the rest of their talent could find more useful jobs, such as translating region locked video games that we really can't play without an english distributor, instead of being a redundant answer to a problem that the Internet already solved.

You do realize that Funi will not be able to stop fansubs any more than humans can stop the weather, right?

[up] I'm not saying that it was really dangerous to me, just that I have absolutely no need for them, so as far as I'm concerned, even the smallest inconvinience that it might cause me, even them taking down a single youtube video, would be a good enough reason to get rid of them.

Exactly how much of an impact does this even have on Funimation? Surely they don't make a lot of money through the Funimation Channel.

[up][up][up]Fun fact: 2011 had the best anime sales ever in the history of the industry. source

[up][up]They are allowed to inconvinience me, just don't expect me to care about them if they don't provide something irreplacable in return.

If you happen to be one of those who like english dubs, then I would be sorry for your loss if they would really stop, honestly, but don't pretend that it's some kind of unified will of the anime fandom that it ought to exist.

Just like when a bad series flops, and I'm glad that it won't get a sequel. If you liked it, I'm sorry for you, but on a personal level, I'm just glad that it's creators will spend their time on a better source plot next time. I'm not obliged to equally like every aspect of the industry.

Excuse me, but saying that you want a major licensor of anime to go out of business just so you can watch your animu fansubbed sounds preeeeetty petty to me.

I made this mistake at first, but I don't think he's saying he wants the licensors to go out of business. He just wouldn't really care if they did.

ninja'd.

[up][up]I didn't say that I want thaem to go out of business.

Just like I don't actively want newspaper publishers to go out of business. But if they would, the most I could say about them would be "good riddance, a million trees saved". It's not that I particularly care about those trees, that just shows how little I care about the newspapers.
