Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day both provide historical information about the American Holiday of Thanksgiving, as well as examples of its use in fiction.

It needs to be divided between Thanksgiving Day Episode or Thanksgiving Day Plot, and UsefulNotes.American Thanksgiving Day.

Trying again: Would anyone at all have the slightest object to me implementing the proposed change?

Go for it. I like Thanksgiving Day Episode better than Thanksgiving Day Plot, because I'm not sure there's a standard plot as such.

Thanksgiving seems to be the Useful Notes material, correct? I think it's a good idea. Whichever becomes Thanksgiving Day Episode should have its description shortened, I think. It's overwhelming to read as it is.

Well, there are several standard plots from what I've seen. Mostly involving the men gorging themselves and watching football, and the women trying to learn to cook a turkey for the first time. You also sometimes get things related to Pilgrims and Indians. In cartoon animal land, you might have a turkey trying to escape the pilgrim hunter. You also will occasionally have an aesop on the importance of being thankful, sorta like the Christmas "The meaning of the season" aesops.

When I get off of work, I'm going to put together YKTTW pages for the Useful Notes and the Episode pages.

Thanksgiving Day Episode sounds like it has an extra word in it. Any particular reason why it wouldn't just be Thanksgiving Episode?

Because Thanksgiving Day Episode is about a holiday. Thanksgiving Episode is an episode in which people give thanks.

I've combined information from Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day to create a draft Useful Notes page here. I tried to include all the relevant information on both pages, while trying to make the some of the individual paragraphs shorter, and either deleting some of the distracting parenthetical comments or changing them into regular sentences.

Unless anyone objects, I can create that page within a day or two. The current Thanksgiving page can serve as a redirect.

Thanksgiving Day can have the history part shortened, add a more about its use in in fiction, and be renamed.

Options I've thought of are:

Thanksgivng Day Episode: Consistent with Christmas Episode and Valentine's Day Episode.

Thanksgiving Day Story: Better incorporates mediums that don't have episodes, or a standalone work that is not part of a series.

An episode where people give thanks would be more like a Thanks-Giving Episode, with a hyphen. But really, I honestly can't imagine any confusion arising. Nobody calls it "Thanksgiving Day". It's just "Thanksgiving". Just like we say "Halloween" and "Christmas" and "Easter" and "Hanukkah" and "Passover" and so on.

Anyway...it seems there's two films and a novel named Thanksgiving, so we may as well make the Main page a disambig.

Once again, trying to get more votes so we can call this.

It's been around for quite some time and is unanimous. Calling this.

Bumping. I know this has only 11 votes, but I just sent a PM message asking for this to be called.

Why can't basic, common sense, mundane maintenance stuff like addressing a blatent case of duplicating pages attract any real participation? This is the sort of thing that should have been solved in three days, not several weeks.

I guess I should to only take things to TRS if they are about breats, sex, fanservice, and furries.

Sigh...

EDIT PS: Ninja'd. Thanks ccoa!

I'm making the UsefulNotes.Thanksgiving Day page ASAP. I'll get the other started by the end of the day.

[up] Because breast, sex, fanservice gets more people to visit those pages and see the TRS banner than something like this. TRS regulars may cast a vote here, but most people won't care.

Sad, but true.

Also, pages like this that are basically useful notes on holidays, don't get much traffic at all unless it's close to that holiday. The lower traffic a page is, the fewer votes it gets. Especially when something is factual and tropers are afraid of getting it wrong.

Okay, the UsefulNotes.Thanksgiving Day page has been made, merging all the history information from Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day. For now, Thanksgiving is a redirect to UsefulNotes.Thanksgiving Day

I moved the examples of the holiday appearing in fiction to Thanksgiving Day and mixed them in with the existing examples there. I modified the description a bit but still need to do some more rewriting Thanksgiving Day to better reflect its status as a trope about the use of the holiday in fiction rather than a page about what Americans do on Thanksgiving. It also needs to be renamed to avoid confusion with the Useful Notes page.

Anyone have any objection to Thanksgiving Day Story?

I've had this problem with the YMMV TRS thread as well. Guess that most people coming to the YMMV page aren't there for a TRS thread, just for the policy.

Thanksgiving Day Episode, to go with Christmas Episode? Although Thanksgiving Day Story has the benefit that it would cover non-serialized stories about TD, those are mostly children's books and such and unlikely to come up here often.

Ummm, does it have to be Thanksgiving Day story/plot/episode? I'd like Thanksgiving plot/episode/story better. But that might just be me.

I'd say go with the shorter version. Thanksgiving Episode works for me.

I think it needs the day in there otherwise it can be something set in the middle of spring about thanking butterflies when they bring you tea. That's not really the point of it. It's about the holiday and that needs to be clear from a glance even to foreign tropers.

I've rewritten the description to put more emphasis on the types of plots that a Thanksgiving Day story includes.

How about we do Thanksgiving Day Story as the main title and Thanksgiving Episode as a redirect?
