Media namespaces -- a battery of questions:

This is the sticky thread for questions related to the namespacing of works. As in, "which is the right namespace for this work?"

Ideally, questions already answered are covered on the Namespace Map. If you know a namespacing issue has already been resolved, but it is not yet documented on the Map, please update the Map.

If you want to suggest a new namespace, don't post here, but in Suggesting New Namespaces instead.

Very outdated, in fact. Last edit that isn't housekeeping dates back to 2010.

Alright. Situation: Two different pages have the same movie. Which namespace fits Sonic more? I'd say film since it's like with the Megaman Film.

The proper namespace choice depends upon whether the film was made on the Internet or on "film" first.

Internet, but then again, so was Megaman.

Then it goes into Web Video namespace. I'd suggest to merge all worthwhile material in the other page over and then redirect the other page.

Inglip and Better Than It Sounds. The latter looks like Just for Fun material (or Sugar Wiki one, reflecting DarthWiki.Worse Than It Sounds).

[up]I like the symmetry of putting Better Than It Sounds on Sugar Wiki, but don't feel strongly about it.

As for Inglip, I don't know. We don't generally catalog memes, but I think we have a few exceptions. No idea if this should be one. If so, I might suggest putting on Just for Fun. On the other hand, it could be viewed as a game of some sort.
"Existential Despair" is an oxymoron.

Well, Inglip certainly doesn't belong in Main. I could have sworn we had a Meme namespace around somewhere, even if it's poorly utilized. Or is that for listing Memetic Mutation subpages?

There is no Meme/ namespace. All memes we opted to keep are in Just for Fun.

Memes/ is for Memetic Mutation subpages.

Well, looking at Memetic Mutation, there are examples of memes that are also tropes — or at least stock phrases masquerading as tropes, such as X Called; They Want Their Y Back or Step Three: Profit. There are also memes that act more like work references, such as Lolcats and Zalgo. They are conceptually different and should be split.

A meme that is the name of a website, page, prank, or similar act of authorship, should be treated as a work and put in the appropriate medium namespace. A meme that is trope-like should be treated like a trope. Clearly, Inglip is a work-style meme, not a trope-style meme.

Inglip seems to be more of a trope-like meme according to the description, but not the example list.

Inglip seems to me to be more of a character, like Cthulhu. Characters aren't tropes.

This disagreement makes me think I'll have to take it to TRS once it reopens.

440 Fighteer, Tue, 22nd Jan '13 1:36:34 PM from the Time Vortex Relationship Status: Dancing with Captain Jack Harkness
I think that Memetic Mutation is indeed in dire need of a TRS overhaul.

That said, I would agree for the sake of settling on an outcome for this particular issue that Just for Fun would be a good place to put memes that don't clearly fit into other media categories.

I was talking about a TRS for Inglip, but if you want to take Memetic Mutation itself to TRS, it would be fine for me.

That, too. It's not a clear-cut situation.

It's on my To-Do now.

Hi um... I want to make a page for this website thing I joined, except it's kind of...an RP group(like fanfic R Ping, I guess. No fighting.) and a website...Do I just put it under "website"?

That doesn't seem like a work.

What namespace would a fan-made videogame adaptation of a work go under?

Remind me, where do web mangas go? The one in question is Inside OuT, though I'm not making a page yet; for the moment, its wick is to Manga/ since that's, well, what it is, but one place it's hosted is a webcomic site.

Webcomics can come in many ways; it's not a very defined medium.

I don't feel that manga BUT ONLINE needs to be different from manga - thus, keep it in Manga/
