http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mission_(1986_film) One of my favorite movies of all time with not only one of the greatest scores of all time, but also some of the best cinematography of all time. Strong performances by Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro and a really unforgetable ending that makes me cry just thinking about it. I was wondering if anyone else heard of it or saw it also.

I was going to make a tropes page about it, but apparently I can't make one.

Here is the trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcAv-nRFDAY

This doesn't have a page?

Wow. That is a pretty terrible condemnation of Troper Demographics.

The best part about this film (Other than the musical score) is how the use of violence and nonviolence are both presented, yet neither of the main characters is really villified or made to look foolish by his decision.

I don't know why, but on a google search there is already a page titled The Mission that is locked. Does anyone know how to unlock it?

Post here. That being said, I just unlocked it for you.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

Watched it in the cinema when it first came out. Boy was De Niro handsome back then. As was Jeremy Irons. And the soundtrack is to die for.

Saw it years ago, in English class. An excellent film.

Hmmm... What more tropes could it do with? Mendoza's punishment seems to be something, can't think what.

Dark is not Evil, for De Niro's character, Mendoza. He may have been an evil man but he was showing signs of guilt and repentance. In another movie, that would have been his Earn your Happy Ending moment. Not this one, sadly. Light is not Good for most of the church bureaucracy, particularly Ray Mcinally's role as Cardinal Altamirano.

Well yes, but I meant his punishment. When he's made to carry all his weapons and armour in a rope bag tethered to him up a cliff, and then it's all cut loose.

Hmm. I don't think there is a trope for redemption equals something not quite death but he dies in the end anyway but I do get your point. Needs new trope, I think.

Something to do with closure through the destruction of a significant item?
