Also: Can I start yanking examples that don't fit/are race-incidental?

Removing bad examples is a free action. Go for it.

Removing some. Also commenting out some of the many, many ZC Es.

I do have a couple questions.

1: What constitutes a gender-inversion? Would the Asian guy be demure and the white girl a Mighty Whitey, or would it be a Mighty Asian and demure girl?

2: What about instances of Mighty Whitey getting the Asian girl where she's not particularly demure, but he gets her because he's so damn mighty?

1) Gender inverted means just flipping the gender, so it would be mighty White woman and demure Asian man. Expect lampshading to ensue.

2) If the girl is a genuine Action Girl or fairly tough in her own right, then it's not this trope.

[up]No, that's not exactly correct.

  1. Both. Although, the latter is probably most common in Asian fiction. I recall a few anime, for example, with a powerful Asian man and a white damsel.

  2. As I mentioned before, her being demure is not what signifies the trope. What does is the white man being more mighty than her, or being more advantaged (for example, she's uneducated, a prostitute, doesn't speak English well, a stranger in a foreign land, or even a Dragon Lady; those are all examples).

So... huh.

1: I'm going to go with "Both" but assuming one of them is blatantly misbalanced (and it's clear from the description)

2: So what if she is a genuine Action Girl, but compared to the Mighty Whitey she may as well just be a porcelain doll?
Like I said, her being an Action Girl doesn't automatically disqualify her for the trope.

For example, I argued earlier that Knives Chau from Scott Pilgrim qualifies. The point of the trope is that the asian woman is treated as a doormat, is dismissed by her lover, or needs/loves him more than he needs/loves her. She passes that part with flying colors, despite the fact that she is also a Badass.

Done clearing out ZC Es/removing obvious non-examples. Someone want to look over and make sure I didn't axe something I shouldn't have or miss anything?

[up][up] Does it count when it's an acknowledged character flaw, though? I think it wouldn't because it dismisses the white guy part of it. It's not a fantasy born out of a "submissive, exotic" woman, it's that she's codependent and he's taking advantage of her. That, or it's some form of Played With version of this trope.
I'd say it's either Discussed or Lampshaded, but that's about it.

It's still using the stereotype, whether its acknowledged or not.

Can we call the crowner yet?

Considering that the crowner results aren't even visible to me any more (likely due to the ongoing DDoS countermeasures), I'd say this thread, along with most TRS threads, is kind of tabled until that all gets sorted out.

The crowner votes are still visible in the crowner index, but since the problem actively screws with the votes, we can't rely on that either.

Ghost of a chance
Can we just use Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow? It clearly had enough votes to win.

The last vote count before the DoS was 18-2, I remember.

Can we proceed to the name change?

I would just go ahead by now.

It's been this long, I'd say go for it.

OK, went ahead and did the rename as well as wick cleanup. I also repointed the redirect Me Love You Long Time to Asian Hooker Stereotype and dewicked it (Whoever renamed it to Asian Gal with White Guy forgot the wick cleanup).
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.

Alternative Titles: Me Love You Long Time
28th Dec '12 10:43:47 AM
Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
At issue:
This trope is about unequal relationships between Asian women and white men, in which the latter hold the power. It is NOT about:
  • Prostitution (Ok, that is sometimes part of it but not enough to deserve mentioning in the name)
  • Any relationships between Asians and white men. Thus, please do not add politically correct options to the crowner
