It's just some guy with long hair holding a sword, but why should I believe he knows how to use it? Shouldn't the poster boy be doing somethig more explicitly Bad Ass, his long hair flailing and all? The caption doesn't really help either.

While it's not a terrible picture, I still feel we could do better.

Suggestions coming up...

whenever I stumble on some.

By the way*

Hmm, I don't know. You have a point, the guy has long hair, but apart from the sword he's not particularly badass. There's always samson (from the bible), who is the Ur-Example of this trope, but it's not like there's a definitive picture of him.

Either way, it's definitely a keep until something else is suggested case, but I'd be interested to see what people come up with.

The trope is about the hairstyle, and that's an excellent image to illustrate that. I see no need to change it.

He doesen't look like a '90s Anti-Hero.

The trope is not, someone with long hair is badass. It is long hair is a sign of badass. The typical Bishonen with long hair doesn't fit theis trope, because they have long hair to look good.

It's not just about long hair.

I think one of these might be better:

First pic.

Last pic.

Or pick a pic from Renegade.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

[up] Second pic works. The first is unclear, and the first has too much text and distracting details.

I'm not crazy about any of these, and not crazy about the current either, although it's a Keep Until Better Image Suggested.

[up][up][up][up] I really like the first one. It might as well be the page picture for Knife Nut, but I guess that doesn't matter.

[up] I thought about Conan right as I was clicking on the thread...that's not bad, but I think I'd almost prefer a Frazetta painting or something along those lines.

I am not sure about Conan, yes he is Badass, but his hair is more a sign of him being froma babaric culture.

The point about the typical '90s Anti-Hero with long hair is the fact that he goes against social norms by choosing this hairstyle. If in the setting of the work long hair is normal for men, then it is not a sign for badass its just a badass with long hair.

[up][up][up] That's not bad. We're starting to get a few pictures good now.

[up][up][up][up] Rakan feels more like spiky hair than long hair.

Edit: [up] That's why I like the Renegade pictures. That's someone who at least has a clue and cares about fashion, and not just someone who doesn't cut his hair.

I think the Renegade images are best, as they're very nineties. Granted, the trope isn't limited to that, but I think we should have a ninetiesish image, or at least one from a setting where long hair for men isn't the norm. (I.e., I wouldn't use a barbarian or viking or something of that nature.)

[up]Good point. The Renegade pics that have been proposed so far just don't look explicitly badass enough to me. Though it would still be an improvement.

[up][up][up][up]I would definetly prefer a picture of Samson with longer hair too.

Just to clear things up: Are we looking for a picture of an obvious Bad Ass with long hair, or a guy whose long hair looks Bad Ass? I think it's mostly the latter, even though my Samson pic probably fails in that category. Whichever it is, I would say that the current page picture fails.

Here's a picture of Tarzan lifting a dead Sabor off the ground yelling in triumph. IMO the hair is perfectly visible.

Here you go. Though, as Osmium pointed out with Conan, Tarzan basically just has long hair because he's never seen a scissor in his life. It probably would be better with a picture of someone who has long hair specifically for added Badass Points

I can barely see his hair in that. The haircut should be readily apparent, not hidden behind the back.

Basically I looked at that and thought 'wtf is this bald guy doing here?'

But yeah, as much awesome as Yuri Lowell is, I'm going to support the array of Renegade pictures. I don't really care which one of those comes out on top.

Not really the '90s Anti-Hero the article describes, but: Samson? [1] [2]

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
