meh, even if it were a pale ripoff, there isn't much reason to directly cover an entire album without it being a homage. it's not like he tried to pass the album as his own original work, right>

Okay, so my friend invited me over his place the other day and started talking about how he felt Elzhi's Elmatic mixtape wasn't a homage to Nas classic album Illmatic, but rather a pale ripoff and Elzhi shouldn't have even tried to do the mixtape and come up with something original
I felt differently and thought it was a pretty dope way to pay respect to one of the GOAT's (Greatest Of All Time) by doing this. The best part I thought was how Elmatic pays props to Detroit like Illmatic did to NY, name dropping famous people/areas locals would know in various tracks and using an influence of jazz themed beats
