As a disclaimer, only the main character appears on screen, but;

  • Uly Coombs - Player Character (gender to be determined). In-Universe, their name is a Gender-Blender Name abbreviation of Ulysses/Ulyssa. As of the begining of the game, they've become stranded in some 23rd century era (the game's set in 2300, after an apocalypse knocked technology levels back to about 2050's) ruins on the way to meet members of their mother's old military unit. Hopes to study engineering and enjoys reading romance and historical novels

Other characters;

  • Harry and Alaine Coombs; Uly's parents. Harry was a "salvage archaeologist" (someone who specialised in digging up old world technology), Alaine's a soldier. They met when she served as part of an escort for a dig team Harry was part of. Uly ran out on them after a misunderstanding before joining the dig (they assumed Uly wanted a career as a salvage archaeologist, which they felt wasn't a secure source of incomenote  and Uly left in a huff rather than explain it was just to get enough credit to get into university).
  • Tammy Coombs; Uly's younger sister. Really misses her sibling.
  • The Newman siblings; Fraternal twins Alex and Herman, old schoolfriends of Uly, and "MaxPower!", their Bratty Half-Pint younger brother who refuses to use or answer to his given name. They introduced Uly to Armature.
  • Prof. Brian Armature; Uly's boss for the last two years. He lead a "salvage dig" which Uly joined as part of a vocational course to get into university. He was the one who contacted The General for Uly (they were apparently old friends).
  • James (surname unknown) - a classmate and acquaintance of Tammy who has a crush on her. He asked Uly to deliver a letter to her (apparently unaware that Uly isn't in contact with any of their relatives). Still any friend of Tam's is a friend of Uly's.
  • Barry and Paul - The other two members of the expedition Coombs has been on for the last two years.
  • "Herr Man"note  Klingemann - Driver/Pilot, recently demoted from quartermaster. Was driving the vehicle carrying Coombs to the base when it crashed. Injured on crashing, he is carried off and killed in the prolog by hostile fauna.
  • The General (formerly The Captain) - Alaine's former commander. Uly has never called him by his given name, simply calling him "(The) Captain" on the few occasions they met (and switching to The General since his promotion, naturally). While he hasn't seen the Coombs in some time, he agreed to grant Coombs a writ of passage (essentially a letter of introduction which formally states that someone is travelling/operating under their authority or to visit the base) and speak to Alaine's former colleagues to see if anyone could help Uly find her (or Harry) to reconcile.
  • Lt. Brooks - Alaine's best friend (formerly a private under her command). Dislikes Harry.
  • Lt. Dam - Another of Alaine's former subordinates. Was promoted to his current title for rescuing Harry on the same expedition where he and Alaine met.
  • Privates Balsa, Oak and Chippendale - A group of eternally unpromoted soldiers who served with Alaine.

I think I'll just do a few of my books

Tokusatsu the Five Year War: Year 1 [1993]

Reeva (Of the house of Grimm) Adopted daughter of Vale, Reeva was raised among a people who are epitomized by 2 traits; change and superiority. Reeva looks human but has a black icor for blood. Her (adoptive) race consider all other races on the same level as animals, thus her war crimes of slavery, slaughter, and the like are seen by her and her people as no more severe then someone who abuses animals, thus her defeat by the marines stings extra hard as she is being beaten by “non sentient wild beasts.” However by the same token she never uses her full potential in a attack, to her what the marines do to fight her is like a game.

Her form is a punishment from her father, her true form is something of a Lovecraftian horror, and she herself is considered to be a animal by most of her people, just one who has been genetically modified to be as intelligent as them. To the rest of the universe however she is considered one of the most dangerous women in the universe.

For the most part her people don’t make a habit of interacting with the lesser races thus making her actions all the more dangerous since no one is on her level who can directly counter or punish her. While originally a punishment she has since come to be quite favored among her family, though her various failures against Earth are wearing out the good will she had earned to earn a new body.

Ra Ultimos Ra’s blood is gold, of the Obelisk race. A race of mercenaries driven by honor, no mater the contractor they must fulfill their obligations, failure to do so makes them a pariah among their people. Ra failed Zot and had his wings were taken away, however he serves Reeva in hopes of redeeming himself though he does not approve of all of her actions, such as the cemetery assault. Ra’s name is a mix of Family and Given name thus he is not the only Ra while Ultimos is a title, his superior is Ra Magnanimous while those, like Maat, who were added to the race via magic or other means have no second name just Maat would also be a outcast, seeking to earn the Title of Tara, as in Maat Tara, (these custom second names are unique to those inducted into the race).

Selket Selket is a legend among the Obelisk, though her second name is lost to time, given her status she would be the highest rank Obelisk in history, beyond Magnanimous. However in a venture on Earth she fought a Gorgon and was turned to stone, when Reeva revives her she is punished for falling to a “earth creature” by being turned into a human by Reeva still her battle prowess is still heads and shoulders above all others despite her “inferior” form.

Coffret Coffret and Rotoscope parallel each other in many respects. Both are scientists and inventors, the former focusing on bioengineering and being the one who creates the claymen, half finished monster grunts used as disposable foot soldiers, and the main monster of the week for Reeva. Coffret is indifferent, more interested in chances to test his monster making skills then the moral implications of creating monsters for space tyrants, he just wants to make his pets.

Warlord Zot (T-Minus Series) A mutant with bio-electric powers that cause him to have a thin translucent skin and exist in constant pain ultimately leads him on a quest to conqueror the universe due to his pain driving him somewhat mad and vengeful.

Imp and Sloth (Former astronauts) Victims of Reeva these two astronauts discover his prison on the moon, open it, and are subsequently recreated as a flying monkey and pig like monster in the employ of Reeva, their personalities a bit comedic but their goals the same as Reeva, much like how Kelly is turned into a monster for Reeva’s goals except their role is to be her valets. Sloth is also made female. Their families and NASA assume the astronauts died and no one is aware of their true fate.

Tara Mayer - Saber tooth The Will to Resist All Domination Tara is a African American girl, independent, strong, focused, she’s no brain like Kenny but can keep up and help him with some effort and she can also keep pace with Michael or go girly like Claire. She a little bit of everything. Mayer Family Notes: Tara is a interesting case, her mother is a African-American named Asha and her father is a Chinese-American named Shen. Shen pushed her to excel in school while her mother encouraged her to know how to “be one of the boys.” Shen is a accountant with a stern, loving, if sedated demeanor, while Asha is reserved yet can often be found playing hoops with local kids, in fact she works at the college as a coach of the football team, she choose the college so to not make things awkward on her daughter, and has always worked one school level higher then the one her daughter attends.

Michael Wood - Tyrannosaurus The Blood of Sacrifice Michael is your typical jock, though he practices martial arts not football he has the jock look of a All American high school guy. Michael, like the rest of the core 9, were taught the morals of Marital Arts was not to ‘win’ but to resolve the dispute, resulting to combat as a final result. This colors their early encounters, and for Michael put him in situations where often his own life is on the line to protect others. But he soon learns Reeva can not be reasoned with, and when her forces descent combat is the only resort. Wood Family Notes: The parents are Samantha Reed-Wood and Arnold “Arny” Wood. Arny is a retire bodybuilder and boxer and his face is pretty messed up, however now he owns a dojo and teaches boxing to kids, he is extremely proud of his son for teaching martial arts and how NOT to fight, something it took him most of his life to learn as he started off as a bully and moved into the boxing ring just to make money for beating up people. Samantha was the younger sister of her family, her sister Alexi managed to cost through life on her looks however she did possess a keen mind, she eventually adopted Jason rather then have her own children. I say was because a few years back Sam made a wish during a fit of jealousy at a well to not have her sister’s shadow hanging over her. The Oni in the well used the opportunity to possess her and then proceeded to destroy Alexi’s life eventually turning her into a young girl with the intent to consume her for power. Horrified by what she had done Sam took back control of her body and suppressed the Oni, it has remained suppressed ever since. To make amends Sam adopted Jason rather then let him return to the system for the next few years until he was a “legal adult,” and released. Thus Jason is both a adopted brother, and a adopted cousin. But things go deeper because we eventually learn that Alexi’s actually gave birth to Jason when she was a teenager and abandoned him, only to adopt him quite by accident several years later. Jason is 1/4 native American and eventually his biological half brother (same father) seeks him out to reconnect, claiming he was led by his spirit guide. Alexi was also adopted by Sam, and while she remembers everything she doesn’t hold much of a grudge since she saw her sister beat back the demon and reclaim control of herself, she wants to be angry, feels she has every right to be, but it’s hard to be angry with someone who fought a demon to protect you, even if they were the demon.

Claire Mc Intyre - Pterodactyl The Love of All Life Claire is like your totally valley cheerleader girl. Like all members of the marines she studies martial arts, and is surprisingly better then Kenny though her style is more influenced by gymnastics and avoidance then direct attacks. While she seems like a ditz and airhead she has a incomparable compassion and love for life and the determination to stand up and fight for those same things. Mc Intyre Family Notes: It’s almost like the Mc Intyre’s live in their own world. They own, not mortgage, a small but opulent country house on the outskirts of the town at the border of the forest. Mr. Hank Mc Intyre was his high school football star and went on to be a pro baller, though only for a year. When he realized playing ball would mean skipping college he left and by the time he graduated with honors married Peggy Majors, had their honeymoon and raised their daughter for a year he had about 6 months before he was past his prime. He came back, stunned the sports world and then retired again, getting a job as propane salesman. Peggy was the school cheerleader, and went on to be a devoted girlfriend and wife, she made a few smart investments and put the money away for them to pay most of their mortgage outright and has been a cheerful housewife since.

Malcolm ‘B-Fresh’ Johnson - Mastodon The Wall of Defense Malcolm was once in a gang, embroiled in the Bloods vs Crypts gang war he got out after some time in juvenile detention and tried to turn his life around. But while you can leave the gang, the gang never leaves you. Periodically the gang war spills into his world and as such to protect himself and others he caries a pair of hand guns hidden in his left pant leg and his hip. Their plastic and small caliber so they are hard to detect by eye or metal detector, however he isn’t sure if push came to shove would he shoot, doing so would put him back in that life he is trying to escape from. His ultimate goal is to join the police force but has been rejected for numerous reasons each time he tried. Johnson Family Notes: Malcolm comes from a lower end family, while not “ghetto” per-say he’s at the lower end of the upper middle class the rest of the group mostly enjoys. Placing him right on the edge with his upper echelon friends and the wrong side of the tracks. His parents Janet and Denzel are pretty average as well, the former being a retired school teacher and the later being a car salesman. Malcolm’s gang running saw the violent side of his father who would beat his son with his belt to try and get him to wise up. In later years Denzel would come to regret the actions and make amends as it wasn’t really like him but he felt so frustrated with his son being a gang banger he couldn't think of anything else. Denzel is not a typical angry black man and is normally well adjusted. Malcolm’s gang life, the calls from the police, and all he did during that time effected both his parents and his mother became a alcoholic, she is still recovering. If not for the intervention of a “second chances” guardian, who Malcolm later introduces to Fatts and Styx, Malcolm would have wound up in a body bag or jail.

Kenny Brice Olsen - Triceratops The Calm of the Mind He is the classic geek, though he took up martial arts to protect himself from bullies and is a decent white belt so he’s got a decently developed body. But he is still quintessentially “white and nerdy.” Often Kenny seeks to study Rotoscope and his technology, leading the front of the team’s technological edge. Olsen Family Notes: Mr. Wren Olsen is literally a rocket scientist, he works at the local aeronautics firm doing contract work for NASA, and has a Nobel peace prize for creating a chemical agent that can work as a emergency replacement for oxygen for space suit, the chemical catalyst can even convert rocket fuel to a passable O2 substitute. Wren is a very reflective and thoughtful man who has encouraged his son’s academic and self defense procedures. Mrs. Cindy Olsen has a degree in advanced mathematics and programing. Like her husband she supports Kenny in everything he does, though when the 3 get together they often need a non techie to translate for them to us laymen.

Jason Wood - Dragon Kaiser The Power of Determination Jason is Michael's adopted brother, curious about his past he spends most of the first year trying to find out about his real parents, returning only to be controlled by Reeva. Jason is very driven and even after his will is freed he is ready to fight. Jason has a friendly revelry with his brother and is a bit of a show off. Wood Family Notes: See Michael

Hydro Hag A construct of Reeva tasked with infiltrating and corrupting the team with her potions, she soon grows to appreciate the team. Her betrayal of Reeva doesn’t go over well and few people trust her but she proves herself by the end not just to the marines but to the city.

Trinity Hallow The Silver Knight Trinity was snookered by Reeva, convinced she was the hero and tricked into giving up her will to Reeva for weapons to fight the good fight. But even after her mind is set free she continues to fight, even when it is apparent her armor is slowly turning her into a mindless robot she fights. At the heart of things Trinity wants to protect the people she loves and gives everything to do it. Hallow Family Notes: The Hallows (Barbara and Tito) are a pretty normal family, Tito is a handy man while Barb works on and off as a secretary. Trinity is a pretty down to earth girl, similar to the later Kelly, she studies in school and idolizes the heroes who protect her town like most teenagers but not much else, however her sense of justice is enough that she willingly endangers her own soul to keep fighting as the Silver Knight despite the dehumanizing effect it is having on her. “The others are just teenagers, like me, who put their lives on the line to protect all of us, and now their facing tougher enemies, how can I just sit idle when I have the power to help?” Were she stripped of her powers she would probably return to her normal life, regretting she didn’t do more but not actively pursuing new powers.

Styx and Fatts (Crypts gangbangers) Styx and Fatts are a pair of bullies and friends, thought Crypt’s members they are pretty inept but also know you can’t just walk away from the gang so are often put in a tough spot, their not good guys and at the same not bad, and fail at trying to be either or both, though buried in all the antics these two develop a facination with the Tokusatsu marines and dream of becoming one of them. Family Notes: Styx parents “Gin and Toxic” are former gangers living on the wrong side of the tracks and doing petty crime but are pretty harmless. Thus Styx often lives with Fatts who has a pretty normal family life consisting of a overbearing mo-mo wearing mother who loves to cool and is overly affectionate Mary, and a suit wearing salleryman named Don, both of which disapprove of their punks son but believe if they just show him love he will grow out of the phase.

Rotoscope, Zardoz, Kelly Virgil Kelly Virgil was a pretty normal, if unsure girl, she dreams of being a cheerleader and like Trinity has no formal fighting prowess. And like Trinity she begins as a pawn of Reeva, a more direct one as Reeva douses her with a potion that turns her into a sex crazed blue cat-girl driven to find, mate, and absorb/unbirth the heroes with the goal of re-birthing them under Reeva’s control. However Claire, the girl who helped train her as a cheerleader also helps her break Reeva’s control but her new monstrous form is to much for her parents to take and they turn her away, Kenny gives her a home instead, leading to feelings of inadequacy and anger at her parents. Virgil Family Notes: The Vergil’s Val and Vernon are just normal people, with no marital tie in they are just civilians who work as low rung execs on one of the local companies. And like most people have a healthy fear of monsters, their daughter becoming a monster is just to much for them to handle but while they can can face her due to inbred fear they do what then ken by sending money for Kenny to help her get supplies and live off of.

Rotoscope hails from a race of robots that are cursed with bodies that shut down bur never release the souls dooming one to a endless existence of just existing, no awareness of the outside world or even conscious thoughts, just mindless ghosts trapped forever in the mortal realm.

After he is slain by Zot Zardoz soon finds himself transported into a odd device where Rotoscope looks down on him and he learns Rotoscope accidentally pulled his spirit out of the path of the accession to heaven when trying to perfect a device to free his people’s souls from their bodies. Angry at first Zardoz soon realizes that the device could be modified to fuse his soul to another, granting them the bonus of his power. Rotoscope agrees to fill Zardoz’s wish and the first Red Warrior is born, however even a man with the power of 2 is no match for Zot and is slain, however Zer’Kerak would follow Zardoz’s footsteps and join with the core so the Second Red Warrior now had the power of 3 in one. And so the legacy began.

John Smith Jr. John is like a second rate version of Jason or Micheal, he is no uber athlete or super brain like Kenny, more of a middle road person. He studied martial arts to defend himself but wasn’t one of the kinds of people who stand out in a crowd, he was “our friend John” a more stable and low key balance against the high achievers of the core group, as he often joked, “How I manged to hook up with the Bruce Lee twins (Jason and Micheal), Einstein (Kenny), Buffy the Cheerleader (Claire), J-Flash the Rapper (Malcolm), the mutant offspring of Einstein and Buffy (Tara), Little Miss Sunshine (Charity), and Foxy Rockie the Boxer (Drina) and still remain sane is a mystery to me.”

Smith Family Notes: Mr John Smith Sr. and Jane seemed like a pretty normal set of parents. Both worked as waiters, John Sr at a ritzy 4 star and Jane as a dinner waitress. John was raised with a firm grounding that “the best of friends can be found in the most unlikely places.” Considering his parents were both waiters and had crossed paths numerous times, the wife often took dates to the same high end restaurant while the husband often grabbed a quick meal at the same dinner. John Jr, was quick to introduce himself “You never know when you’ll find your best friend is right under your nose.”

Charity Charles It seems Charity is never without a smile, it’s almost eerie that no on can remember a single day that Charity was ever unhappy. And the truth is Charity is really hard to phase, she makes friends with everyone, even Fatts and Styx, and seems to be everyone’s best friend, she never judges and seems to just want to have a good time.

Charles Family Notes: Charity lives only with her grandfather, Alex, who served in WWII, her parents were gunned down with her watching like something out of Batman. For several years she was morose and down in the dumps, however a chance run in at a comic shop showed her a fictional hero with a past identical to her own, and that is when everything changed. This man Bruce Wayne had a loving caretaker in Alfred, unlimited wealth, and got to travel and train with the best in the world but was a sullen old puss. This lead her to look at other tragic origin heroes; Punisher, Spider-Man, Cyclops, and others. And most of them were pretty depressing, either emotionless, rigid, psychopathic, or so on, Spider-Man was the exception and she modeled her life after the websliger, “I won’t forget my parents, but they would want me to live not brood, so I will make every day a adventure and every person I meet a new friend. I will be the smile on this hurt world that makes it laugh.” And as she forced herself to be a light in the darkness she saw it reflected back at her. Soon being the light wasn’t something she did to honor her parents, she just was.

Drina Xuxa - Pterasaur The Will to Resist All Domination Drina is something of a oddity, this Latina, was the perennial tom boy, and actually formed something of the 3rd member of the Fatts and Styx troublemakers, though while Fatts and Styx were ready to do anything the Crypts told them to do Drina just wanted to mix things up and soon fell out of flow with the 2 gang-bangers. Instead she found her way to Arny’s Boxing ring, where she found a quick rise and a outlet for her aggressiveness, which later had her pointed toward Micheal’s classes to get some much needed focus, and becoming a part of the original friends.

Xuxa Family Notes: Being a first generation immigrant (her parent coming over only a few years before her birth) gave Drina a feeling she needed to prove herself while her parents Jose and Lucia were a bit timid, while they were legal feelings still permitted the parents who took any odd jobs they could find that they weren’t “welcome” in America, as misguided as they were on such a concept.

Substitute Magical Girl/Bushido: Way of the Warrior

Lord Tizen Kiverra Designation: Red Fire (火) Bio/Personality: Hailing from a long family of prestige and honor Tizen watched his home burn and his father cut down by Oni as a child. Since then he has taken it upon himself to take up his fathers mantle and protect Japan from the Oni. It is serious and focused, unwilling to ask or accept help from anyone but as the power of the Black Gate swells and the Oni/Gedou forces increase he is forced to swallow his pride and seek out the remaining Great Families to reform the Emperor's Honor Guard. Fighting Style: Tizen is a master of the blade, with few equals, and is a skilled martial artist. Quirk: Tizen counts only 2 people as friend: The westerner David Dukes who proved his skill and loyalty only a few years ago and earned enough respect that Tizen would give him one of the Origami beasts to protect him, and Genta his childhood friend he has not seen in years. Notes: Tizen walks a fine line between Gedou and Bushido A honorable warrior who cares for his lands and his subordinates he will go to any means to protect, even some that might be consider suicidal and self destructive. This line will lead him to temptation, power, and disgrace but the question is...in the end will he fall to temptation and power, thus turning against earth, or reject power for honor and possibly die for it?

Ryotoros Tomeda/Renna Bass Designation: Blue Water (水) Fox Lady of Shubumi (Shubumiのフォックスレディー/Shubumi No Fokkusuredī) Bio/Personality: Ryo is a upbeat, honorable, and dedicated man. Originally a member of Japan's Kabuki theater super group as well as a Kabuki Player normally he is a expert actor and a little overbearing. He did not hesitate when called to action by the Emperor. Fighting Style: Ryo specializes in long range throwing weapons and is deadly accurate with them as well as being a expert archer. Knives, daggers, shuriken, and kunai round out his arsenal of weapons. Notes: Ryo still has his Kabuki mask and Rena mask, while he does not use them normally they provide a backup arsenal should the need arise. The Rena mask turns him into a normal teenage girl while the Kabuki mask gives him the form and powers of a female kitsune.

Sukio Bass (Chaki Tani) Designation: Green Wood (木) Personality: Chaki is a laid back loaf about, while he was given basic training he never got into it, finding more interest in games and playing then Bushido and school. He sees his father as more of a big brother and has very few cares in the world, but buried deep under all that is a good heart who is willing to stand up for friends, but good luck getting him to act on it. Chaki is often dragged kicking and screaming into action but once there is as dedicated as any other. Bio: Chaki cut her teeth with the Magical Girls (see below) which helped build her team spirit but also her bitterness. Originally born a boy a chance encounter with Sakura, Magical Girl of Flowers, had him taking her place in both powers and gender. Her stint as Sakura was only a few days but her status as a Girl would be forevermore. Soon after her change though Oni assaulted her home forcing her to assume a new identity, this compounded with her new gender forced a total breakaway from her past life, adding to the fact the magical machinations of Aiko, her guardian spirit, to force her to act like a lady weather she wanted to or not put a lot of stresses on the young woman. Initially reluctant to get involved with the magical girls any more then was strictly needed she eventually grew into a passionate member of the team only to have her magical energies cut off at the worst possible time forcing her to fall back on her Inscription Arts and eventually retire. Then Lord Tizen came calling... Fighting Style: Chaki has a moderate level of skill in hand to hand and spear use, as well as amateur sword skills. Notes: Magic is hard to truly destroy, while her energies are depleted it is only temporary and some where around mid season of Shinkenger she will see a usable about of magic return but it is exhausted quickly, in the end it is concluded she would need to 'rest' for several years just to have a few weeks worth of magic. Which isn't surprising when you think about it, after all 16 years of untapped potential only let her stand on her own for a couple months or so.

Venus Designation: Pink Wind (空 “Sky”) Bio/Personality: A student teacher with a strong sense of discipline but a aching heart. Venus primarily dreams of making a good life for herself and finding the right husband. Hardly the kind of demenor one would expect of a warrior, but this demeanor belies a fierce love for Japan and it's people and one of the most caring and driven woman to ever wield a sword. Fighting Style: Focusing on protection and defense Venus knows a few defensive counters and has a modicum of skill with her Fan-Shield a weapon that folds out into a circle and can be used defensively or throw like a discus offensively Notes: Venus exudes a natural aura of calm, this makes spirits, animals, and even the origami more placid and calm around her often making it easy for her to open negotiations. Venus like the others found fate pushing her into the heroes role long before the Lord's calling. A chance run in with a clan of Oni binding ninja warriors known as The Hand stole her turtle badge, during the fight to reclaim it weird magics were unleashed and she found herself fused with it, the mark of the turtle branded on her forehead as she took on the form of a turtle, she was subsequently enslaved and used as a weapon by a warlord, she was freed of the control only to join a group of other mutants living in the sewers of japan.

Kotoha Designation: Yellow Earth (土 “Dirt”) Bio/Personality: The “Also ran,” Kotoha is the second, and middle, daughter, and the duties of the Inscription Art would normally fall to her older sister, but with chronic illness it is Kotoha, the least trained daughter, to take her sister's place when the Emperor calls. Fighting Style: Unsure and amateurish she is barely adequate with her signature bladed star weapon. Notes: Kotoha is dedicated to her family and idolizes her older sister, her older sister was on the honor role and got perfect grades, Kotoha tried her best but only made regular A/90%. She dreamed of being beside her sister if they were ever called, her sidekick or squire and was ill prepared to be thrust into the role of hope and focus of the family honor.

Kotoha's Older Sister - Ichiboku (Tree) - Panthera: The Catgirl of Shugumi Bio/Personality: The pride of the family she is on the honor role and disciple of the family, not having time to think of personal interests she is groomed to be the family legacy, however her groomed life is interrupted when Bast, seeking a replacement for Nala who had been relived of her freedoms to become some rich man's pet, chooses her as her new Champion, endowing her with feline skills and a pendent that lets her take on a feline like form. However after several months she runs afoul of a villain with toxic powers and becomes critically ill, shortly there after the family is called and Kotoha must come in her sister's place. However Nala soon returns to duty and finds a cure for the sister, but not for several months. Younger sister Ashi (Reed)

David Dukes Bio/Personality: A rather laid back fellow, even more so since he discovered his Sloth spirit, David wandered the world for years, eventually befriending Lord Tizen and getting his own origami for the training and help he offered in the Oni outbreaks. David returns a couple years later when word of the Lord and multi colored doppelgangers reach him and from there he shows Tizen his own armored form. While David often comments how Tizen gave him the morph shark the truth is that David was the one to transform the origami shark by his own will so revealing the form to Tizen and then lending a hand is quite a pleasant surprise Fighting Style: relax with wide movement, his Sloth-Fu often makes opponents underestimate him letting him get right up in their face without even seeming like he's trying. Notes: David's Shark grants improved skills and training which is what makes it's ideal for his henshin device as it means his armored form is far more skilled if not experienced. Any other Seishin-juu would not have mad as effective armor except for maybe Lion.

Genta Bio/Personality: Tizen's other friend, Genta was given a Origami shard when his father, a sushi seller, had to leave and the two childhood friends had to part company. Over the years Genta took over the family business, perfected his own martial arts, and even devised his own device to track origami fragments and transform himself (much like Dave but though science not mysticism). Fighting Style: quick short sashes and overly dramatic posing.

'The Magical Girls' Rina Dirks Designation: Aurora (Red Butterfly) Bio/Personality: First to awaken and leader of the team Rina has a heart few can match and treats each Magical Girl as family. Friendly and supportive few know the circumstances and the psychological scars that her transformation called for. It is sudden and unexpected, the family she loved all her life turned on her on her 14 birthday, leading her into the basement and strapping her down to a alter as a sacrifice. Some demon had called for the blood of their first born and that was Rina. What is worse Rina could see her mother, father, even her brother all crying as they prepared her for the sacrifice. That's when her powers manifested, unfortunately she could not just erupt and run, already she could feel the demon's influence creeping into her mind, setting her maidenhood aflame, she was to be the portal, to the human world, her body and soul consumed and her defiance forced the demon to take action. In the end she had to slay a handful of lesser Oni as well as her own family to save the world...and...herself. Two years later the team is bolstered by one more MG, Chaki, a boy turned girl who now find himself unable to even pretend to have his old life preserved. Chaki's loss of everything he knew mirrors in a sense her own losses and she finds herself opening up to him like none other. Fighting Style: long range magical/area attacks Quirk: Rina was just staring a relationship with another girl when she transformed, and the relationship dissipated over time, now with Chaki to talk to she suspect the change has 'fixed' her 'deviant sexual preference,' leaving her confused and a bit bitter, yet at the same time the idea of dating a girl disgusts her so she is having quite a bit of trouble forcing her old habit. Notes: Unwilling to let go of her past Rina used her finances as a Registered Champion to hire out a couple to play her adoptive parents and walk though all the loops that need be, however while she has “parents” they rarely live with her. The family house has long since been paid for having been in her family for generations.

Ariel Rhett Designation: Sakura (Blue Butterfly) Bio/Personality: Ariel was always bullied and pick on for her height (6 and a half feet) and mannish appearance, her transformation changed all that but at the same time left her with a rough situation. Her parent's know her secret as holding the massive change in appearance would be a bit hard and the government adjusted her records. After that she just needed to move to a new town where no one knew what she used to look like. After a year she was able to move back home using the time difference to explain a “slow balancing out of her body.” Though no one has been able to get a straight answer out of her on while shes a foot and a half shorter. Fighting Style: crowd control and range using flower motif. Quirk: After years of having to shop at men's big and tall Ariel has embraced her femininity, and you almost never see her in something that isn't feminine, her preferred wardrobe is that of a school girl uniform. Notes: Seduced by a Oni in human form Ariel found herself nearly raped and a demonic spore injected into her, this spore feeds on her negative emotions, exponentially building itself up for when it can come free and use her body as a Dark Magical Girl, as a side effect she has become sterile. Since she can't become pregnant she has become something of the town playgirl juggling multiple relationships at once.

Samantha Kido Designation: Jewel (Yellow Butterfly) Bio/Personality: Sam is very down to earth and perceptive. She doesn't like to make waves and tends to follow rather then lead. As with the other girls she was “pushed” into service when a Oni possessed her brother and she could not bring herself to slay him to set him free. The Oni used the weakness to escape, keeping the body and has yet to be seen since, Samantha has not told her parents she is a Magical Girl instead she she has told them she is taking self defense and other after school activities. Fighting Style: Ranged direct damage with gems Quirk: see bio/lost brother Notes: Aside from the lost of her brother Samantha is a well adjusted young girl with no outstanding traumas.

Lillian “Lilly” Designation: Starlight (Green Butterfly) Bio/Personality: Lilly rejected being a magical girl from the start, she just wanted to me a normal girl and have a normal life. So she ignored the calls, the senses, the warning, and forced herself to be normal. That would cost her greatly as a Oni soon took control of her father and then raped and killed her mother as well as herself. When Rina and the other magical girls came to confront the beast they faced a tough situation. The Monsters appetites were well concealed and even after being excised her father was charged with domestic abuse, rape, and murder. Shaken up by things Lilly could not even face her father, even knowing the truth and he was sentenced to jail. By the time she could prove his possession it had been several months and he had been convicted, tried, and executed. Since Then Lilly has lived with her best friend Sam and is often the first on the scene. She has a gentle touch for a Magical Girl, knowing full well most Oni are possessed humans, and spends here free time researching death row cases for possibly Oni infected. Fighting Style: Her powers are a raw magic wild card and the effects are somewhat random. Quirk: She has been accepted into Sam's family, and often refers to them as mother, father, and so on but she never forgets her own past. Notes: Lilly carries a heavy burden and yet at the same time stands in the light. She blames no one, not even the Oni for the death of her father and mother, long since reconciling the fact her own inaction against corrupt Oni lead to their death, as a wise man once said “With Great Powers Comes Great Responsibility.”

Sylvia Designation: Sonta (Violet Butterfly) [Deceased] Bio/Personality: Sylvia is the lost one, the Magical Girl cut down, her powers were based on music and song and she served as the team source of light and joy, mediating wounded spirits and charging into battle with a fierce drive. She embraced her destiny in a way few of the girls did and never looked back, unfortunately she would cast a dark specter over the entire team as she was used by a powerful Oni to show just what severing ones magical source does. She dissipated like a shadow in the sun, a slow and very public death that generated enough fear to double the power of the Oni forces operating in the area. Her death bough about it the newer, strong Oni to come after.

Shinno Tani and Sukio Sukio senior was a passionate woman who embraced life and the Bushido of Shinno's family. As it turned out she was also a Wood chi and was trained by Shinno in the way. Together they eventually had a child but Sukio could not leave the Oni activity alone, vowing not to raise her son in a world full of evil she gave her life protecting her family from rampaging Oni. Shinno was a man of great discipline but when he met Sukio his life became subsumed by her happiness, when she gave her life protecting her family Shinno vowed to make sure then son never frowned, and dedicated his life to giving Chaki anything he could want, tempering soiling Chaki by simple virtue he could not afford everything even with working 2 jobs thus Chaki was raised carefree and undisciplined but never spoiled, had Shinno had more wealth Chaki would be quite rotted.

Alex Kido, Stephen, Sarah/Brushstroke, Erin, Ariel's family Alex is Sam's lost brother, Stephen is Rina's brother, Sarah is Rina's former lover, Erin is Chaki's new friend in chapter 10, Ariel has a older sister and a younger brother.

Aiko About the size of a football. Covered in brown fur with a long nose and crystal blue eyes that took up most of it's face. Aiko is the girls Guardian Spirit.

Chika A small green bunny with leaf wings and lighting shaped ears/antenna. Chika is the new Guardian who replaces Aiko.

Hanran Hyuga A girl with streaked magenta, cyan and blond hair, she has the Dolphin talisman, and is part of a underground movement that captures spirits, Aiko doesn't like her because her kind hunt hers for a Pokemon like sport. She captured Alex and the Oni that made Dark Jewel.

I'll start with my most modest cast

Lowell: A suburban youth who agreed to become the Doppleganger's newest likeness. After changing his mind and trying to resist, he finds himself in a world where he is seemingly all alone.

Chauncey: Another person who ended up in the Doppllegangers illusory realm and attempts to help Lowell.

Dorian: the second univited guest. Lowell and Chauncey need to convince him to work with them.

The Doppleganger: a creature who steals the identity of people and lives as them untill their bodies wear out. Picked Lowell as his newest target.

Far too many to list. Let's start with a relatively minor faction: The top brass of the Darian Army.

  • Darius: An exiled prince of Ceralia. Passed over for the throne due in part to being a raging egomaniac, Darius attempted to kill his younger brother, believing (quite correctly) that he wasn't capable of ruling effectively. The attempt failed and he was exiled.

  • Garen: The prince's best friend. Totally dominated by Darius' stronger personalty, he does everything Darius asks of him without question. He is hopelessly in love with Darius, who, being aware of this love, ruthlessly exploits it to his own benefit. After he chose to become exiled alongside Darius he became a Sorcerer, a magic user who has defied the teachings of the goddess of magic.

  • Gen and the other two: Garen's three older brothers, of which two of their names escape me. Mercenaries in the Darian army who only stick around try without success to keep their youngest sibling from throwing his life away in service to a guy who is only using him.

  • Andrei: The Great Sorcerer. Garen's teacher in the Sorcerous arts, and adviser to Darius. Contemporary, and quite possibly teacher, of the man who was considered the greatest magic user to have ever lived (this being before he became a Sorcerer).

  • Naruto: A place spirit from a certain strait going along with the Darian army for shits and giggles. Not terribly smart, but very focused and insightful when needed. Tends to be fairly obsessive, and has a total disregard for the lives and decisions of others when they come into conflict with him own, so he's not above killing anyone who tries to get in his way.

  • Eden: Alchemist extraordinaire. Serves the Darian army A: because he's getting paid and B: because it gives him an excuse to travel.

  • Kan: Psychotic swordsman (best in the world) and on/off lover of Eden, who is attempting to tame Kan. Travels with Eden because he has nothing better to do with his time. Sometimes he'll help Darius, but mostly he just hangs around being menacing. Uses a katana because he holds the opinion that katanas are really cool.

  • To be named guy: A guy who I don't believe I've ever actually named. A swordsman similar to Kan (though in the official rankings I believe he is something like #14). Darius' bodyguard.

I think I can get into the groove here. Here's a list of the cast of Sigma Expanse, a story I've worked on since high school revolving around the fantasy-tech world of Sigma which in recent decades has been inhabited by Terrans (Earthlings). Since my list of named characters is quite large, I'll post a handful for now.

Chisame "Christine" Sakamoto- Jovial young woman with sharp reflexes and a knack for fighting. She joined up with a "Sector" after some encouragement from Crosse in hopes of adding some meaning to her life and giving back to the city of Stronghold in some way. Chisame has come to the realization that with each fight she's found herself starting to enjoy it. She wields a folding sword to complement her arsenal of hand-to-hand and free running skills, making her more speed oriented.

Edward Crosse- Chisame's hard-working friend and mentor, a talented fighter skilled in the sword, hand-to-hand combat, and Fire elemental magic. Has a strained relationship with his father, the company president of Horizon Security. The director of his Sector asked him to scout around for new members with potential, and he started attending Chisame's school for that purpose as well as getting her to help in his recruitment.

Maki Koehler Nakazawa- The half-Japanese half-Gleitrollechildhood friend of Chisame. Appearing cold at first, she can be a whole lot nicer, however she isn't always as "composed" as she appears. She is a full-contact Ice mage as well as hand-to-hand combatant. The other half of her heritage is a race prided on its large number of magic users and talent in its use, with some of the best mages in the world(full contact and traditional) hailing from it.

Tetsuya Fujikawa- A slightly irritable but skilled martial artist, and close friends with Chisame and Maki. Once bullied as a child, he isn't afraid to stand up for his classmates and others and give their tormentors well deserved comeuppance. He and Maki often fight alongside each other when out in the city, fighting for themselves, for others, or for a band of friends they saved a while back. Unlike the others he relies prominently on his raw physical abilities thanks to mana fortifying his body, preferring not to bother with healing or destructive magic.

Alex Benson- The energetic half-Japanese best friend of Tetsuya. He can handle himself in a fight, but rather dislikes violence. Alex is aware of the Sector involvement of his friends and classmates, so he takes to the streets to get intel for their cases when he can.

Younha Baek- A loud upperclassman and good friends with Chisame and her group. A young experienced Sector member who has gone on various missions alongside Edward. She is a Human Weapon of Terran and Sigma herritage, skillful in the use of her "takeover limbs".

Dr. Lance Stillman- Redemption's middle-aged veteran doctor who can treat a wide variety of injuries and illnesses and perform minor in-house surgeries if the moment calls for it. Sometimes the Sector members, experienced or otherwise, come to the Doctor for a little advice.

Alena Mercer- The chatty and playful freerunner mentor of the Redemption Sector. She instructs new members in practical unarmed combat as well as how to escape pursuers and travel efficiently on foot via parkour, whether it be on rooftops or the streets.

Nikolas Rockwell- A well humored gunslinger as well as another of the Redemption mentors. He teaches the newbies how to handle firearms in various situations as well as how to adapt to multi-combatant encounters. Nikolas was known to have taken part in a special military project during a foreign war several years ago.

Unnamed Female Mentor- This character's been developed complete with backstory, but I could never figure out a name despite her being one of the mentors. Character wise, she isn't very talkative but can be very snarky when she does. She wields a large blade in tandem with extremely powerful Ice and Force magic. She holds a past as an orphan torn from the streets by a (now defunct) twisted pharmaceutical company and unwillingly subjected to a wide variety of experiments and drugs that would allow her body's mana to finally flow as well as increase her magical and physical capabilities to allow her the use of such astounding spells and augmented strength.

Maya Shigoro- The first major antagonist, an unstable multiform Human Weapon with the rare power to duplicate the abilities of her victims and opponents by stabbing them in the gut and absorbing the necessary amount of mana. Her gauntlet, launcher, and segmented whip forms were taken from other H Ws she bested in combat. During her first encounter with Chisame she toys around with the latter before impaling her in an attempt to steal Chisame's mana induced reflexes. By a stroke of luck the duplication doesn't work, and Edward and Alena arrive and fight her off with comparatively more ease forcing Maya to flee as the two had called the cops as well.

Hm...alright, I guess I'll post my minimalist cast from this mystery Light Novel I'm working on.(It's alot like Bakemonogatari.)

Phorensix

Narumi Tantei: A 21 year-old man who recently opened the Fedora Helpers agency. Although a private detective, he functions more like an anything-goes helper, doing odd jobs for low pay. His name, Tantei, literally means Detective, which is why he decided to become one. (He gets weird looks because of it too)

Shiroi Miyabi: An immature girl who cares not for customs or manners. She lives together with Tantei, but no one wonders why since they don’t seem to notice her presence much at all.

Aragaki Hato: A bored stereotypical high school boy. His interests lie in writing light novels. One rainy day, he comes across this cat-like person sleeping on his doorstep…

Nakama Yuki: A high-ranking police officer, who seems to know Narumi. Her sense of justice is naïve, but strong. Her strange name also gets people’s attention slightly.(Nakama meaning comrade/ally/friend/etc.)

A few more of mine, including an older one who was better known on a big fanfiction.net forum RP.

Troy Drefor: The Unlucky Childhood Friend of a couple characters, in the old version of New Dawn, he showed up once in a somewhat Bad Ass way and became worse than useless after that. In the present version, he is part of a really, really complicated situation in Egypt. He can be something of an Idiot Hero, but he's much smarter than he acts.

Wolfang Richler: Besides having an improbably awesome name, this man has been literally everywhere. Always a Magnificent Bastard, he actually got a very small meme devoted to him; Its Always Wolfang. His flaw lies in his narcissism, but he manages to be an oddly charming sort almost due to this. He's killed a good number of heroes in his time.

Alarne: Wolfang's Dragon, Alarne is a Lich who carries six dangerous grimoires. In his original incarnation in an earlier book, he was not much of a threat. Like, at all. So much has changed.

Gerado: Wolfang's...other servant. Originally a great big wimp, he was an utter failure as even a Brute. His only special power was...being a crab-man. Nowadays, much like Alarne, he has taken a level in badass. He is now a skeletal armored...thing...which has armor vaguely resembling a crab or lobster, claws that shoot supersonic water discs, and is a highly valued assassin due to being, like Alarne, a complete and total No-Nonsense Nemesis.

Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.

I imagine he gets weird looks when he tells people his motivation, too. :D

Baccano! has a really splendid cast, but if I've taken anything from it, it's that the sincerest form of flattery in this case would to be to have no two characters the same and all completely necessary to the story. In other words, the only way to successfully imitate a story like that is to be totally different from it.

I like stories like that.

I think that the most ideal thing a writer can do is develop all the characters on their own, but in the way that their developments build up the message of the whole story. A good example would be, at least in my opinion, Fullmetal Alchemist.

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.

[up][up][up] No, it's not just you. Graham(and Ladd) are just that inspiring that I'm itching to write a character who can even think of rivaling them.

[up][up] True, even for Isaac and Miria, they're always together, but they feel like different characters(at least, in the novels), especially later on. Of course, they still work best when together.

[up] Fullmetal Alchemist was indeed a shining example of exactly that. Each and every character went on his/her own paths, which builds up to the overall message or theme of the story.

Alright, so...here's a slightly updated character list of the same story.(Since all characters listed here are major characters(in some way), I won't bother bolding them.)

Phorensix:

Narumi Tantei: A 21-year old private detective who recently opened the Fedora Helpers agency. His madness knows no bounds, and are often exactly why he still gets any business. The Protagonist of the story. His name, Tantei, means 'detective', which is precisely why he decided to become one. He gets weird looks for that. And even weirder looks when he mentions the reason why he became one.

Aragaki Hato: A normal, stereotypical, strangely Bishounen school boy. He lives high school life with no real aim for the future. The Narrator of the story, for most parts. He's an introverted individual, and has only a few friends. Fears interaction with other people, but doesn't show it usually.

Nakama Yuki: A naive idealist whose sense of justice is rather admirable. She returns to Japan to investigate a serial murder case. The Hero of the story. She has no faith in the Japanese government, and wants to reform it to make a better country.

Shiroi Miyabi: An 11-year old living with Narumi for unexplained reasons. She doesn't know(or doesn't care) for etiquette or customs, and rudely moves around randomly. People strangely don't notice her that often...

Asakura Miki: Daughter of an old Japanese family, she is in the same high school and class as Hato. The object of Hato's crush, she lives her life without knowing it. Her own adventure doesn't start until later...

Um, yeah. The cast is growing slightly, but I plan to add more eventually...

There are some crazy names on these lists. Anyway, I have 30 or so stories with loads and loads of characters, so I'll only list the characters I've created so far for the comic I'm doing.

Orange- Male. Self-proclaimed leader of a wonderful little group affectionately called the Anti Student Council by the students. 6 feet 3 1/2 inches tall, loves mangoes, has an Afro, fan of Moe Knight (in-universe series), Snark (not deadpan), soul is willingly possessed by a Devil Bear (Ursus Diablous, clever eh?), favorite weapons are guns and one-edged swords (starts with dual pistols a la DMC, and a katana, ends with a wave motion pistol and a katana that is so sharp it can cut open black holes. Completely illogical, I know.) He is my avatar (because I have an afro and glasses and am 6 feet 3 1/2 inches). Cynic, Melancholic

Green- Male. Orange's best friend (roommates as well), member of the Anti Student Council, deadpan (minimal snark), obsessed with horror. Possessed willingly by a reaper. Preferred weapon is a scythe. Phlegmatic (lol), Apathetic.

Indigo- Female. The chick, very moe, yandere tendencies, big boobs, preferred weapons are any sharp objects (forks, butcher knives, pencils), has enslaved an eldritch abomination on par with Lovecraft because IT was afraid of HER. Member of the Anti Student Council. Sanguine, Optimist.

Blue- Male. Only Sane Man, Tsundere, Fights with bare-fists (boxing), calls upon a bio-mechanical alien. Member of the Anti Student Council. Choleric, realist.

Student Council President (Cerulean)- Female. Student Council President, also called Periwinkle, Foil to Blue. Control Freak. Prefers double-edged swords.

Violet- Female. Student Council Treasurer, Stepford Smiler, Foil to Indigo, even more Yandere. Loves using blunt weapons.

Chartreuse- Male. Student Council Secretary, deadpan, Fights with bare hands, popular with the ladies, a chessmaster.

Gold- Male. Student Council Vice President, lover of fun, eyes always closed, blond, slightly religious (maybe christian).

Asholette- Girl with unkempt hair, fourth wall aware. Has a thing for Ritz.

Ritz- Rich CEO of Ritzco (name pending change), provides various resources to the Anti Student Council, as he owes some unnamed debt to Orange. Probably has a thing for Asholette.

Billy (Oglathorpe)- Billy is actually the name of a gang-bangin', chain smokin' devil who once possessed O. O himself is quite meek. Has a thing for Twenty-First.

Twenty-First- An artificial human from a series called the numbers. wields a sword larger than her with an engine of unidentified make that can propel it to speeds of up to 200mph (it has turbines on it too). Smokes. Possibly has a thing for Billy.

Maximo (One-Hundred-First)- Also a number. A cloud cuckoo lander.

Procyon- Android. Does not have the ability to speak. Her and Orange have a thing goin' on.

Dusk the Hazard- Danger (for others) follows her wherever she goes. Avoids contact and always wears a hood.

Sickle- Has a gigantic ahoge which can turn into a scyth.

The Reaper- Reapers are actually a species of supernatural creatures that exploit peoples worse fears and eats their Souls. This particular reaper is important though.

Thanatelle- Daughter of this reaper.

That One Guy- Quite possibly the most important character in fiction ever.

Mr. Teacher Man- That One Guy's father. Teaches something (sometimes). Also teaches stuff.

Generic Boy (actual name)- A generic anime hero. Would have a harem if the other characters in this comic fit harem archetypes and were idiots. In love with Generic Girl. (or "has a thing" if you so prefer)

Generic Girl (actual name)- Pretty, A-student. Plays every sport ever including the extreme ones and martial arts. Oblivious to Generic Boy. Afraid of spiders.

Mandala: A maid who moves into the boys dorm and cleans up after Orange and Green.(no UST or feelings of love between anyone whatsoever.)

I'll add more as I come up with it if anyone cares.

Oh, fear not, I completely agree. The project in question is a reckless experiment for my own enjoyment, not anything I take seriously, certainly not anything that could possibly be mistaken for Baccano. :D

[up][up] I'm surprised by the lack of Red in this list.

There are some crazy names on these lists.

[up] ...-chuckles-

I'll give this a try, though I'm not going to add any tropes. (That, and I want to spoil this as little as possible)

Nick Riverson-The main protagonist. He's an African-American sixteen year-old who is on the search for his missing father.

Adam Maroon-A fourteen year old half-Scottish boy who has IPD. He befriends and helps Nick on his search after being rescued by him (as his way of thanking him).

Riku Akari (his name will probably change though)-A Japanese nineteen year old. He eventually becomes the "bodyguard" for Nick and Adam.

Abeiyuwa Richman-A thirty-nine year old Nigerian woman. She is very motherly to the group. She is the wife of John Richman.

John Richman-Abeiyuwa's loving husband. A forty-two year old African-American man who owns a gunstore. He and his wife eventually join Nick's search, but for mysterious reasons.

Mary Riverson-Nick's mother. After her husband's disappearance, she becomes overprotective of Nick.

Jasmine Riverson-Nick's little sister.

Thomas Riverson-Nick's missing father, who left when Nick was a small boy.

Xaiver-The main villain, who wishes to find and murder Thomas due to an unknown incident that happened when Nick was younger

Well, that's all the important characters for book one.

[up][up][up][up]That...is pure GENIUS. This is like the Gurren Lagann of Super Sentai high school shows or something(except it's a book, but yeah.)and Thanatelle is a pure-genius name as well.

and like Parable said, why isn't Red on the list??
