100 Bullets:

Hammer of the Pervs
100 Bullets is my favorite comic book series of all time. The art and writing are both fantastic. Azzarello has such a great ear and pen for regional dialect. And he uses Funetik Aksent just enough for it to not look stupid, and you can read it out loud and know exactly how the characters are supposed to talk.

The plot is incredible, with new twists around every turn. The whole idea of the Trust and the Minutemen is an original take on a story we've all seen before, and it doesn't feel tired or redone.

It needs to be made into an HBO series. Ed Harris as Philip Graves. Tom Hardy with hair dye and brown contacts as Cole Burns. Mark Wahlberg at The Italian Job size plus 20 pounds of muscle as Jack Daw. Jeremy Renner as Milo Garret. Leonardo DiCaprio as Wiley Times.

Anybody have ideas for other actors? Michelle Rodriguez absolutely should not play Dizzy, despite her being typecast in similar rolls. She just isn't hot enough. Not sure who could play her instead, though. Lono is a hard one too, gotta be somebody big enough to pull it off but also have the acting chops and screen presence. Maybe Mickey Rourke?

Finally finished this amazing book. Hands down my favourite read of any graphic novel I have read

I've re-read the entire series several times. I've also gotten my comics-prejudiced sisters to like comics by reading the series.

I had initially dismissed this because the premise seemed a little silly, but rereading the summary on the trope page has made me reconsider. Worth a look-in, then?

Oh yes. Big time. Don't read any of the tropes, though, enormous spoilers.

Dude it completely turns into a different book than it started out. If you love crime fiction you'll love it

I'm guessing there's some kind of paranormal element, although I'm not sure. Is there?

Nope just straight up Pulp noir and that's is one of the awesome things about the book its gritty and real

I honestly loved everything about that series except the ending—it didn't feel like it resolved much, but getting there was an amazing ride. I'm reading it through for a third time right now, and I love it even more than I did when I started. You're right, an HBO miniseries would kick some serious ass.

What really stood out for me was how quickly I finished it. I know that sounds like a random detail, but...100 Bullets isn't the first comic that I've completely fallen in love with, but normally when I get that into a series, I take my time buying up all the volumes because I genuinely don't want it to end. But when I was reading Bullets, every time I finished a volume I instantly wanted to hop into my car and go back to the comic book store for more. It's not often that I can say that about a comic book series, but there it is.

The Counterfifth detective arc is probably my favourite arc in the whole series and probably my favourite story arc I have ever read

I think Strychnine Lives is my favorite volume, and the arc with Spain and Tino is my favorite side-story. I also love the arc with Jack fighting in the underground bare-knuckle scene. Jack's my favorite.

If I had to pick a favorite arc, it would probably be the one with Dizzy and Wiley in New Orleans. I didn't really like Wiley when he was introduced back in A Foregone Tomorrow, but that arc made him my favorite character. And I cried some serious Manly Tears at the end when Gabe got his jaw torn off and they did the flashback to Rose Madrid's death. Really powerful ending.

The Counterfifth Detective is my second fave. I love the noir flavor, and the ending is probably one of the most shocking I've ever seen in a comic arc.

The Hard Way is also one of my favorite volumes. And I probably would've cried too, if my heart wasn't so black and cold.

By the way, I own all the trade paperbacks, but I'm still buying the new hardcovers as they come out. I'm one of those people, you know, has to have the best version of everything. I do the same thing with Hellboy, and I buy Blu-Rays of movies I already have in DVD. And I spent 300 dollars on a coffee maker. Right, starting to get off-topic.

I didn't even know they were coming out with hardcovers.

If I was a little less broke, I might buy a few. I've flipped through my paperback copies so much, the pages are starting to fall out.

You really need to get past the first story arc. At first, I thought it was just going to be a series of disconnected stories with Agent Graves as the framing device. Once the actual story starts to pick up, it totally changes tone.

One of these days, I'm going to read it and figure out what the hell is going on. :)

Jennifer Lopez? [lol]

I never thought I'd say this, but now that I've finished this series, I honestly think 100 Bullets is one of the few series out there that actually needs a prequel or two.

I love the premise, and I love the Myth Arc that Risso and Azzarello built with those 100 issues, but there are so many gaps in the Bullets timeline that I would love to see filled.

What did American history under the Trust's reign really look like? What role did the Trust play in the wars with Britain, the American Civil War, Prohibition, the McCarthy era, and the onset of the Atomic age?

What job did the Minutemen refuse to do before they rebelled against the Trust in Atlantic City? What would have happened if they had obeyed the Trust and gone through with it?

What did Phillip Graves' career with the Trust look like before he became the leader of the Minutemen? What did he do with the intelligence services before he fell in with the Trust? What's life really like for the average agent of the Trust? What was Graves' Start of Darkness? How did he meet Abe Rothstein, and how did his obsession with the revenge challenge start?

What was the big deal with the "Il Morte de Cesare" painting, and why was it so important to Echo Memoria?

How did the Trust perfect brainwashing and mental conditioning, and what have they used it for in the past?

So many questions. I love the series, but I think there's so much more that we could see from the universe.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
