I'm not all too happy with any of the names that have been suggested so far.

While I am a fan of Back to the Future myself... This trope probably does need a rename...

How about...

Timeline-Altering MacGuffin.

It's a MacGuffin (even already listed as a subtrope) as it is interchangable and the focus of the plot, and what it specifically does is alter the timeline by its presence.

Changing my vote to that.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

Would anyone mind if I added Timeline-Altering MacGuffin as a redirect now or should I wait until this vote is done in case it wins, which it looks likely to?

I really think it can be called now.

Aye, calling with a consensus to rename to Timeline-Altering MacGuffin.

I've moved Gray's Sports Almanac and all its wicks to Timeline-Altering MacGuffin, created a new laconic and Cut listed the old one. I've also updated Renamed Tropes, while Oreochan got the FAQ thread.

After the discussion move, we should be done here.
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.

Alternative Titles: Grays Sports Almanac

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
At issue:
