It sure would be interesting if they choose to set it in Vietnam or some other more recent conflict, because while it was an excellent game the setting it's in is beyond over-used.
I don't really care what happens, I'm just glad the franchise isn't dead after Online getting canceled (If there is such a thing as souls, rest Brian Wood's.)
Company of Heroes Online was basically the original game, but based on one of those "play for free" systems where you had to purchase in-game abilities and all that with actual money. The only new thing that it was bringing to the franchise was just the customizable hero units, that's it. And from what I heard, they were trying to market it to the Chinese gaming scene, and it wasn't well-received by them. So it's definately no loss there.
I was actually totally OK with it, since the new elements it added did look quite neat if not anything very extravagant.
Unfortunately when I played it, the game for some reason made it physically impossible for me to do any play aside from the tutorials. All the other matchmaking buttons and stuff were greyed out and not working. :-<
Hoooray!
The Korean War or the Vietnam War would both be nice - and both would also fit in quite well with the gameplay!
Well, it's not exactly officially announced, but it is very inferable from this news release.
