White Privilege:

A college degree, as I mentioned before, doesn't equate to "Successland". Pragmatically and mathematically, the most efficient way to become rich is by managing your finances and playing some type of market.

The whole college degree thing is kind of a myth. Partially created because a bachelor's degree was nigh-impossible for non-white-men to attain not long ago.

Well, financial success, maybe.

Then again this also depends on how high we're setting the bar.

Apparently one of my grandmother's (female) cousins was a brain surgeon, my grandfather wrote plays and did translator work... my grandmother managed to make it in money managing. She used to be raising four kids on a sunday school teacher's pay. It's kind of made her difficult to talk to on financial matters.

Also, I'm wondering:

What do you think?

Hm, I always feel strange whenever I get into the education differences because my family has been very well-educated for like four generations and this still has not particularly translated into money.

Please trust me on this, as little money as you think you have, take away those degrees and you'll have a third as much.
It was an honor

Oh, I know, and it might be even more true if my dad actually got paid for the work he did instead of just whenever it struck his bosses' fancy. It just seems that whenever people figure out my demographic, they expect us to be loaded.

Then again, this is getting off topic. Pretty sure that people assume I'm a WASP makes me just as privileged as one.
I think the expectation is that as a WASP you have less barriers to success, so they assume that you should have succeeded if you have all the pegs of success there. Of course, it's not necessarily true you succeed. A capitalist society inherently requires luck in addition to having skill and education and whatever.

WTF this is still going?

Anywhoo, the economy is such garbage that a degree can hurt more than it helps. My friend has a Master's almost (one project away) and had an interview to be a janitor because they were the only ones to call her back.

She's being told she's either over qualified or under experienced. Now if she were a man, regardless of ethnicity, I can't help but wonder if it would be different.

Happy New Year!
Are we start talking about race or have we gone onto high education, because I've got a diploma in visual media that's not going anyway I would like to complain about.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
