And since this is a Sub-Trope of Sexy Discretion Shot (if I'm not mistaken), the name should help reflect that.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. You are mistaken. That's a trope for not showing people having sex.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDiscretion Shot is the wider supertrope/index, although in this case it's prolly more like some sort of Censorship Tropes.
Anyway, yeah, there's prolly a trope about backless dresses. Does that include strapless gowns as well? I don't know much about dresses, but they seem like they're treated similarly in fiction.
Rhymes with "Protracted.""You are mistaken. That's a trope for not showing people having sex."
Great. That trope also has a name that makes it seem broader than it is. Okay, so this is a Sister Trope (as in something sexual is hinted at but not actually shown).
"Anyway, yeah, there's prolly a trope about backless dresses. Does that include strapless gowns as well? I don't know much about dresses, but they seem like they're treated similarly in fiction."
Yeah, there has to be some minimum amount of skin shown. Simply being strapless is not enough if the dress still covers a lot of the torso. Plus a halter top has straps, but they are done in a way that still shows all of the back.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. Then, in October someone added a line for a completely different trope about backless dresses, and the trope has been decaying since.
No, in October someone changed the line about backless dresses, but I didn't found an entry in the edit history of someone adding the line.

This is still effectively two tropes, since a backless dress means the front is still covered up, which is not this trope.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. This is a sister trope to Dress Hits Floor. It's actually more about nudity than sex, really. I'd say it's more closely related to tropes like Scenery Censor and Modesty Towel.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Topless Backside by itself works.
Well "Backside" does usually refer to the ass, not the back.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Toplessness from the Back - boring but covers everything.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.I say "shot" should be in the name, since that is a specific shot to show toplessness without showing the actual breasts.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. The "backless dress trope" sounds related to the Maximum Cleavage trope we were discussing just a few days ago.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! In that it shows some skin, yes. Those would go under Partial Nudity Tropes, I guess.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Bump. Still needs a new name: Topless Discretion Shot? And what do we do with backless dresses (since they don't belong here)?
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Topless Discretion Shot sounds good. I think the backless dress is it's own costuming trope. It's just not this dress. Backless Dress might work.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickTopless Discretion Shot covers a lot more than what this trope implies. This is just for when we "know" a character is naked because her naked back is to the camera and she's not wearing a bra, right?
Yes, that's the trope.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI think the name is quite good I think you are meaning this kind of shot◊ right? (very minor content warning.)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Right, but the name is broad. It covers the trope, but it also covers a lot of other things.
It's only a matter of time before people start Sink Holing it for the wrong reasons.
Yes, that's the shot.
True, it is too broad. We need one that sounds like this trope.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickBare Back Discretion Shot Boring, but clear and specific.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.That sounds a bit like a shot that's hiding a bare back.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI agree. This is showing the back to avoid showing the now bare breasts.
And on that note, would this mean this trope falls under Keep Abreast Of This Index?
As for the outfit, does it have to be a dress, or any top or full body outfit clearly cut to show as much of the bad as possible.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
Crown Description:
Sexy Back is being misused for "backs which are sexy". It is actually about female toplessness, seen only from the back.
This was originally a trope for having a woman naked from the waist up but only showing her from behind as a sort of titillation and censorship move.
Then, in October someone added a line for a completely different trope about backless dresses, and the trope has been decaying since.
I propose we rename this trope to stop the misuse, remove the added line, and clean it up. Backless Dress can be split into it's own YKTTW.
