Anyone else seen House Of Lies?

It's about a snarky management consultant and his team. It looks promising so far.

I thought it was kind of gross. I'm not sure why we're meant to like our heroes — they're basically parasites feeding off and defending other parasites while bitching at each other. For every thousand dollar sushi lunch they rip a company off for, or thousand dollar hooker that they bang on company dime, that's a thousand dollars that isn't filtering down to the people who are actually working.

It's gross, and unsustainable, and remorseless. I could cope with it if I knew they were doing something clever with it, and I'm willing to believe they will, but I'd really love them to indicate it to me at some point instead of showing more wealth porn strip club MTV montages.

I'll watch for the great performances by Don Cheadle and Kristin Bell, but the two of them won't keep me forever.

I mostly agree with you, but I think the whole "wealth porn strip club MTV montage" was only there to reel in viewers. I'm hoping it gets better about that over the next couple of episodes.

How is this premise different from Entourage?

I watched it, expecting something different. I was expecting something more dramatic. Its not gonna be worth watching. They are not going to develop Cheadle's character at all, cause that might result in less amoral womanizing and nudity. Its another Californication.

[up][up]It's a bit more hypocritical than Entourage. Which could be part of the show, or could just be tone deafness. Not sure which.

The show is very self-aware that its heroes are not good people. You're not meant to like them based on what they do, and you don't *have* to like them at all, the point is to laugh at the ridiculous shit they're getting up to, and the witty repartee. I'm sad we don't have a page for it yet and will probably start it at some time that's not 4am.

I only saw the first episode (I'm going to try to catch up this week), but so far, so...meh. The show brings interesting commentary to the table, and I don't mind the unlikeable characters, but it's so...in your face, I guess. I don't really need to see the Zach Morris adressing the camera bit every other scene.

And I agree: the strip club and bathroom makeout stuff in Episode 1 was a little over-the-top. It felt like it almost didn't belong.

Gave the first ep a try. Liked it generally. I think you're supposed to be torn between the characters and the unlikeable job?

First time I've seen a series with an unequivocal black lead. I seriously can't remember the last TV show in which a black character was the main character (not A main character, THE main character).

[up][up]We do have a page for it. Hou$e of Lie$.

On ep 2 right now. This is the reason Don should have played Rhodes
