Anyway, finally finished my Classic playthrough. I am convinced Asia has the best continent bonus to start with; its hard to get otherwise and maximize the benefit from it. I rushed Africa followed by South America, then America. By the endgame I had a Firestorm on each continent (with matching fusion cannon), and a full cadre of regular interceptors with EMP cannons. Never topped my mind controlling the Uber-Ethereal from my last playthrough, since he had already mind-controlled my assault... should grouped up more. Annette has something like a 160-ish Will, and I had Lead by Example from early on.

Asia is indeed pretty much the best starting place because of how overpowered a Tactical Rigging->Alloy SHIV rush is.

Everything is fine. We are not bums pulled off the street and thrown into fancy military outfits to shoot aliens. We also most certainly do not exist and have not kidnapped the person who was at this computer.

Okay. The aliens are becoming a problem. But don't worry. Commander Too Many Ideas is turning on his X Box. He is recruiting Kingdom Hearts characters to save us all. Everything is going to be perfectly fine.

Just don't mess with the Demonic Purple Spiders. Or the really big muscled guys with plasma grenades. And if you see a downed UFO? Probably not a good place to have a picnic.

I will take the opportunity to say there is not nearly enough spiky hair in XCOM.

Try checking Nexus Mods, they might just have a fix for that.

I still need to finish enemy within.... and I am also thinking of Long War to just add a bit more depth.

The iPad version of this game is awful, wanted it so I could play whilst wife monopolises the TV... but it crashes, isn't optimised and doesn't save data. And still hasn't been fixed.

Are Firaxis looking at a sequel to the game or are they just focused on BE and Starships? I'd like to see how the game could be expanded, or grown with a new campaign.

Okay, so I just finished my first playthough (on Ironman!) and from about halfway through the game I had this idea in my head that, by the end, formed a full WMG. And I just have to share it with someone. On my next playthrough I'll probably find holes in it, but right now I'm surprised at how well it seems to hold together.

Humankind encountered some terrible threat beyond mortal comprehension, and to fight it, they develop the latent psychic abilities of certain rare individuals, performing one extreme experiment after another. The result was...the Ethereals. They failed, but just before the "greater threat" destroyed the Earth (or something), they were able to time travel back to a point well before the Greater Threat's emergence.

They then invaded the Earth of their past, the denizens of which assuming they were from another planet, in order to abduct more specimens to genetically and cybernetically enhance, and wound up with the Sectoids, who, again, failed to stop the threat. So the Ethereals went back in time again. Next came the Thin Men, then the Floaters, then the Mutons, and perhaps even the Chryssalids. Again and again their creations failed. The game takes place on the final cycle, when the Ethereals finally realize that Humans Are Special, letting them develop psionic powers themselves, and finally ending up with the ideal psionic specimen: the Volunteer.

So where did I go horribly wrong?

@CEOII: Basically a new ARG set in the XCOM universe has surfaced, with the phrase VIGILO CONFIDO hidden in the text documents on-site as anagrams.

Plus Advent Future sign uses XCOM font on hacked texts and "we are still watching" also refers to XCOM motto :P And lot of photos and info on site is kinda similar to Apocalypse even if the game won't have anything to do with that game

Eh, doesn't seem necessarily going to be XCOM-related...maybe a new project altogether.

Still, if it is...I wonder what will it be about, especially after EU...someone utilized meld tech in order to basically create a totalitarian state while pushing XCOM underground? ...wait, what about aliens then?

Advent DOES mean "arrival of something" So maybe ADVENT is preparing for their alien masters to come back or something
