The NBA - basketball talk:

Why is this a generational thing?

It's not a matter of hype. The Bulls have proven to be better this season, even with the injuries, and the harder schedule, and whatnot. They've kept up the best record for 45 games (2/3 of the season), all of last season, beat the Lakers, and the Clippers, and the Knicks, and every other hyped team that doesn't have the best record (I don't think they've played the Thunder yet, the true top threat in the west). Even in the "Leastern" conference, where the Central division is surprisingly tough this year (my other team, the Pistons, has been stepping in up recently, and even without that, they barely lost to the Heat).

Of course, the regular season success is a been-there done that for the Bulls, like the Mavs, and the Spurs, and other teams. What really matters is the championship. So I'm not going to call this season over with, but I will say the Bulls success so far is more than just hype, and to be honest, I think you should've recognized it a while ago.

[up] I've only recently gotten into basketball for this season, since I thought Lin was a legit player. tongue

I'll make a prediction: the Bulls will be at the championship game, and the Thunder will be their opponent.

Ah, okay. Recent entry. Unless you were being sarcastic with that tongue there?

Lin could very well be a legitimate player, and I'd like it if he was, really. But he was definitely hyped too excessively and too early, partly because he's Asian, and partly because he plays for the Knicks.

Also, championship series, not game. Playoff series are best of 7.

[up] No, I really am a recent entry.

Lin's got potential, but he's still a rookie - nothing compared to the all-stars like Rose or James.

Oh, series. See? I'm a new guy here.waii

Speaking of that, I actually want the Bulls and the Heat to take on one another again.

Oh I'm sure they will in the playoffs. I think they're also scheduled to play each other at least once more this season, because NBA scheduling is more about profitability than common sense.

Lin's got some good and some bad. He had a good coaching system, but he also had a lot of turnovers. And unknowns or new faces can easily win a couple of games out the gate. Tebow did it, and he isn't a good NFL quarterback. Performance over time is what's most important. I don't think he sucks, though. He's likely quite good.

He's not the focus of this article, but I continue to feel a bit bad for Greg Oden.

Lin has a lot to work out. Give him another season or two and he'll make headline news again.

I'm disappointed with the Heat - they've got talent, but they're very inconsistent. Meanwhile the Bulls are winning while handicapped. It's hard to argue for the Heat in that regard.

So here's another feel good story about the US, China and basketball. And it's starring a name some of us have ridiculed and forgotten, who's buried past issues to turn things around.

Deng is the new Rose. tongue

That was one powerful throw at the end of the third quarter by Wade, but the Heat still lost. If they can win a home game against them on April 4th, that'll vindicate them. If not, then the Heat will officially be third rate behind Chicago and Thunder.

Heat with a second double-digit loss against the Pacers. Bulls with their first double-digit loss (or loss in general) since Rose was benched. Owch.

The're actually 12-5 without Rose on the season, IIRC. They were also coming of their first overtime game of the season, and have already clinched a playoff birth (it should be about a week and a half before anyone else does.

I'm not worried. Just want them rested and ready.

[up] I'd get worried. They didn't play quite as bad as the Heat did, but it was still pretty lazy by their own standards.

[up] Meaning, he's already an all-star despite being a rookie.

Thunder already took down the Heat and the Lakers. I hear they'll play the Bulls on Sunday - that, I'm looking forward to.

Ah. Kevin Love was a major name since quite a while before Lin. "All-Star" isn't something one should throw around lightly. It basically means top 4 at your position in the whole league. Also, neither are actually rookies. Rookie means first year pro. This is Love's fourth, and Lin's third. Lin just didn't get the attention until now.

About my Bulls, John Lucas seems to eat up a lot of clock when he's playing point guard.

About my Pistons, if they'd clicked at the start of the season instead of the middle, they'd be competing for a playoff spot.
I don't watch much tv, so this commercial is entirely new to me:

It's kind of funny that D-Rose, one of the most reserved players you'll ever find, has one of the funniest lines in the always funny NBA on ESPN commercials.

I have a prediction: Kevin Durant will be the next MVP.

Also, tough break for Jeremy Lin - he has a meniscus tear in his left knee; he won't get to play for another six weeks due to surgery.

[up] It's like fate gave them an incredibly sadistic Hope Spot - they had top-tier players (by Knicks' standards, at least), a Folk Hero in Lin, good teamwork and a winning streak, but it all started going downhill once the Heat beat 'em. To quote a fan, "It was not supposed to end this way".

Dwight Judas'ed so hard today.

Magic morning shootaround and interviews, Stan Van Gundy informs the media the management has let him know Dwight Howard wants him fired, in response to a question about that rumor. Right as he's finishing up, Dwight comes up and gives SVG a hug. SVG ends his interview and says if they have any more questions they can talk to Dwight. Which they do, and he denies it.

[up][up] And I thought Lebron James was bad.

Then again, who told Van Gundy about that? What if Smith comes out and says "None of us told that to Stan"? What was the reason for telling the media? Was that to butcher Howards' reputation? Was it because he wants to get fired?
