Oops. Didn't mean for that to slip through the telepathy. Well, anyway, let's just say that the past generations of Lightlives came up with ways to wipe memories and clean up messes so well, that it was exactly like it never happened. The way to do that got passed down through years of higher-ups. They can can cover about the area of a small town, and it works really well. Buuuut the overseers don't like using it for anything other than a last resort.

Penny nudged him in the ribs. "Aw, c'mon, John, don't be a danny defeatist! All you need is some practice. For your powers, AND for your confidence issues!"

"Right then," said Ken, "can we get to the terms-discussing soon?" He was getting rather agitated, considering he didn't see any place around here to do his parkour thing.

"M-maybe" sent back John. He maybe he should powers and personality, John felt so weak and cowardly during that fight earlier. "Hey, you talked about proj_ctiles earlier, could you teach me how to use them? It's ju_t, I'm not going to be able to defend _yself up close as a puppy and I can't use my powers when I'm h_man..."

Than John realized something. "Wait...how am I using telep_thy right now!?"

The realisation struck Penny too, and she thought fast. Don't jinx it! It could like bees with tiny wings or baby elephants holding feathers!

"Ah, good, you're still here." said Pepper Spray, "Well, I just saw Kestrel get back, so word should be getting ar-"

"PLATOON, FAAAALL IN!"

The soldiers suddenly sprang into action. They buzzed around the place like a disturbed hornets nest, but eventually found formation as rows in single file. The group of new recruits, like Terry and Ken, found themselves in between the rows, at the furthest end.

John couldn't respond. Realising he had telepathy as a human, locked him out of his telepathy.

"Sorry, it's too late. I can't do it anymore..."

Aw, you see? There it is! The only reason you can't do it is that you think you can't do it. If you're confident in your abilities, you could let the magic let you do anything! She sighed. Maybe the first step ICE CREAM

Penny zipped forward to an ice cream van, and presumably Gary. "Hey, John! The ice cream's this way!

"Wait, what?" said Ken. He turned to Terry. "Dude, should we get in line with the others or just watch?"

"Well, since I am playing along..." Terry then got in line.

Once the soldiers were all in line, two rows facing each other, a figure appeared from the darkness at the other end. He was a tall, grizzled man dressed in the darkest of reds. Combat boots, dark trousers, belt, square-shouldered jacket decked with glowing red shoulder stripes, and to top it all off a cap marked with a medal of a flame. The man was old and grizzled, his hair white and face marked with scars, but his square chin, muscular physique and six foot steel rod spine showed that this was a man to be reckoned with.

"Tennn HUTT!" The man barked, and the soldiers stood to attention. He marched down the line with an air of gravitas. His voice was chipped and regimented, with a gravelly undertone.

"Welcome, recruits, to the dawn of a new order. You may call me General Ignatius, and you will at all times address me as Sir. I am your new superior, because at this day, all your former commanders are now inferior, to you. When I found many of you, you were sitting at home, drummed out and ashamed, or you were in your clinic, torn and broken, or you were simply lying in pieces on the streets and wastelands of Iraq. Your 'commanding officers' have sent you out to die, or denied you the chance to find your true calling. You have lost hope. Your country, your government has let you down. But now, we have all been given another chance. A chance no man could ever grant us. By divine providence, we have been lead to this place, and by a greater force we have been given power beyond comprehension. We will use this power to do what we have put on earth to accomplish. We will use this power to bring justice to the earth. We shall use this power to give strength to those that deserve it, to make our country the proud, mighty nation it was always meant to be! You, and I, the Militia of Vengeance, shall blaze a trail of fire and blood, in our great crusade to set this world right! WILL WE NOT?"

"SIR, YES, SIR!" came the enthusiastic reply.

General Ignatius became silent for a moment. "And what of the rest?" He walked to the group of newcomers, and gestured to them. "These men and women have been selected, through analysis of official records, as people who could bolster our cause. I understand some of them may have concerns or quandaries. Therefore, I will be patient and allow them to ask a few questions. Now then, step forward and state your name and enquiry. I will be forthcoming. BUT... stupid questions are punishable by ignition, and personal questions are punishable by dismemberment."

Ken was first to take a step forward.

"Sir, my name is Ken Andreas, sir! Sir, is this group left-wing or right-wing, sir?"

"Mr Andreas, I would like to think that this Militia can move beyond that classifying. But right now my gut statement is that our interests are largely Right Wing."

Terry was the next to step forward. If he was willing to commit, he had to know their endgame goal. "My name is Terry Rickert. Mind if I ask what our primary targets will be?" Terry asked.

It seemed funny how the conversation ended so quickly. This didn't stop John thinking for a bit. He did wonder why his powers only worked as a puppy before, was a mental block the reason for this?

Gary, finally seeing Penny, asked "Hey, where did you two go? Did you give my son bad directions?"

"These questions are getting near to what I would call stupid, but I will indulge you, Mr Rickert. Our greatest target will be the currently established US government and all its branches and secret services."

"We went to a hotdog stand by mistake," said Penny. "...say, Mr Gary... could I talk to you for a second?"

Gary answered "Sure, what do you want to talk about?"

"John, go and chose what you want, 'kay? I'll be right with you."

Penny lead Gary over to one side.

"Gary...John just talked with me through a telepathy mindlink, in his normal form. That probably means nothing to you, but it's like the equivalent of...of...of a werewolf making his hand into a paw during the day just by thinking about it. He did it completely without realising, and when he realised he was doing it, he couldn't do it any more."

"Um, okay" said John, getting in line for ice cream.

With John gone, Gary replied "So he's using his powers human and than stopped being able to because he realised it but I don't get what you mean about werewolves."

"My point is, judging from how easy tapping the mindlink came to him, John could have a lot more skill and talent with his powers than most Lightlives. I don't know for sure, but his lack of confidence could be seriously holding him back. I think the first step would be to build up his confidence while in canine form. Gary, I'm going to have to ask that I work longer and more closely with John in his mentor sessions."

"I understand. I was actually thinking of getting John a therapist to deal with his issues after what I witnessed that side of him today."

"That might be an idea. Also...don't tell John I told you this, but he said he felt like he wanted to stay as a dog full time. That would, um, pose a problem, right?"

Gary showed a bit shocked from Penny saying. "Okay, why did he say he'd prefer being a dog?"

"Partly because he thinks that no one ever notices him as a boy, and partly because he's worried about accidentally changing in front of everybody. I'll try and work with him on the latter."

"Well John's a bit lonely. Maybe you should try to help him make some friends. I don't want him to spend the rest of his life as a dog just for shallow attention, there's so much things he could do as a person..."
