Trails franchise (Trails In The Sky, Trails Of Cold Steel etc)

Cold Steel 2 was announced at the same time, no date for that.

Apparently XSEED will be doing the port themselves. A headliner here is that there are a few thousand newly voiced lines, which has been confirmed to mostly be Rean (his lines are oddly silent in a lot of voiced scenes because Falcom was too cheap to pay the voice actor for the full thing, and they wouldn't change the code to accomodate XSEED's willingness to pay for those lines to be voiced).

And in the same breath, they announced Sky the 3rd will drop May 3.

HOLY SHIT! As soon as I heard about the Trails series, I always wanted to give Cold Steel a try, but despaired at the lack of a Vita. That's amazing news!

Still, I've got my hands full with what's here at the moment, but it's nice to know I'll be able to play that part of the saga.

With the Third coming out soon, looks like I came in at a great time.

Just be sure you're up for it when you start Cold Steel 1. I'd call the cliffhanger there about three times more brutal than for Sky 1. Also, Cold Steel 2 has a segment were you play the Zero/Azure lead instead for a while, so you may end up going "WTF? Who is this?"

Anyway, I hope they're planning on getting to work on Zero and Azure right away after this. There's a fan translation of Zero that's almost finished, so it would be amazing if they buy that, clean it up, release it and start on Azure, allowing us to potentially get it before Cold Steel 3.

(sigh) Somehow or another I went from the exit of the Bandit hideout to the other end of the Valley and am now very lost. I just need to find that stupid gate, but it could take me a good six hours of wandering to find it. It's so frustrating I've got half a mind to beg anyone with a gog edition to go there and send me back an updated save file.

I swear I don't try to end up in these situations, that'll teach me better not to constantly make backup files.

Have you been using the area maps?

The eastern branch of Nebel Valley is somewhat convoluted but not to the degree that it should be that confusing if you bring up the expanded map (can't remember the key for it off the top of my head though "m" would be fairly standard.)

Edit: Yep default is "m"; also here's a link to a map that should be spoiler free unless you can read Japanese [1]. If you can read Japanese be warned that the map contains mild to moderate spoilers for SC (as did the only English map I found).

The gate to the base is the northernmost point on the map.

I'm in the area right in front of the cabin. I really think I might be stuck, across from the bridge spot, I can't see anywhere else to go, every other path either leads to the exit which the game doesn't allow me to go through, or any other is a dead end.

Okay, nevermind, I ended up finding it, don't ask how. On the plus side, I've heard I'll need to come back here for SC, so I've pretty much figured the whole place out by memory now, so there's that. Sorry about all that.

I assume that Kloe sadly won't become a party member?

Also so far 2 seems like a lighthearted chapter. I'll continue to be patient with the pacing, but I do hope it picks up after a while.

Oh no, she becomes a party member alright. You won't get to use her too much in this game, but she'll be sticking with you for the long haul in SC and the Third. (Which is finally coming out the 3rd of next month. YAY!)

And yeah, like I've said, not much actually happens in FC. You do get some payoff in the final chapter, but you don't really get to the meat of the tail until SC, though seeing as it's roughly twice as long as FC, it more than makes up for that.

FC picks up for chapter 5, the rest is worldbuilding. A similar thing happens in Cold Steel 1.

And yes, because you asked, Kloe is a party member. A damn good healer.

Oh, for the record, a party member towards the end of the game is getting a name change in a patch soon (Zane to Zin, to go back to the Japanese name).

With Cold Steel coming to the PC should I do it legit and start with Sky or can I be a #fakefan with no consequence and go hard on the former

Cold Steel 1 can be played without too many problems in terms of its plot and characters, it will directly spoil the big news events of Sky 1 and 2 though with various books and side comments.

Cold Steel 2 rides quite a bit on Sky and Zero No Kiseki (which isn't out in English yet.) by that time you should probably have played Sky.

I'll add that Cold Steel spoils a reveal from near the end of Sky SC at the end of the tutorial if you aren't oblivious.

Yeah, Sky is where you generally want to start. Just mind the slow burn until SC.

Ruan is such a cool city. The architecture is gorgeous, there's a lot of cool industry I like that the spread of airships have left sailing as impractical transportation and they're not happy about it, Kloe's a nice presence to have, after Josette and Olivier, I was getting paranoid, and the music is amazing, particularly the Evolution version, thank you easily modded music files.

Apologies for the double post.

I'm sad to see Kloe go, I'll be happy to have her back in SC. Her character growth in her one chapter did a lot to make her likable and a heroine in her own right. Also it's amazing how much I felt like I got to know the students at the Academy, considering it only takes a few hours. Jill's great. Also the play was hilarious, although I can't shake the feeling there's foreshadowing there.

Still, it's good chapter 3 opens right away with a new party member.

A pretty big patch today for sky Its all localization changes to make it more consistent with all the games.

The biggest change is Zane is now correctly named Zin.

Sky the third comes out tomorrow! It's going to be a week or two before I can get it >.<

Bit of a ranom question, but anyone know the tomato sandwich recipe? They seem really useful and I figured out I can farm for a ton of tomatoes in the factory. I can't read the recipe text, you see.

Woot sky 3 getto. About time.

Well didnt know that there was carry over from 2, had to go blast through and finish 2 SC on PC... my file was in chapter 8 lol.

Anyway got started and man difficulty spiked from the last game lol I almost died to freaken Gilbert of all people, froze both of us the first turn and damn near killed us before we broke out of the status effect.

And wow, not really spoilers but tagging just n case Tita's mom Erika is quite the pistol, reminds me more of Estelle than Tita. I like Ries so far, a sister wielding an Ivy whip sword and obsessed with food, good combo.

Oh yeah and they did go back an put chest comments in 2 PC. some of my favs that I saw.

I'm having trouble with the Carnelia Finale sidequest.

I talk to the guy, then wait for the girl, wait for the second heart, then talk to the girl again, and she's disgusted and doesn't want to go near him. I'm not sure how I'm screwing it up.
