Well, it's pretty clearly a massively multiplayer game. There are a number of reviews around, if you are interested.

I kind of like it, but the timed missions are annoying. Anybody know of some mod that removes that wretched "deadlines" mechanics?

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

When do I level up and get some new abilities? Where are the towns with shops full of magic weapons and healing potions? How do I get instant money just for killing things? How do I get everyone to do nothing while I'm away? And where do I save my game so I can restart when I die?

Under World. It rocks!

When do I level up and get some new abilities?
School or gym, generally. Or you can just train skills on your own, if you are so inclined. The skill tree is truly enormous, go nuts.

Where are the towns with shops full of magic weapons and healing potions?
As for healing potions, your local friendly pharmacist has plenty of very powerful potions and remedies if you want them. If you need something even stronger, hospitals can cure almost everything. It takes a lot of grinding, but if you want your character to be able to make potions, or even invent new ones, you can do that too.

As for magic weapons... if you are in the U.S., you can get fairly powerful ones relatively easily. If you are in Europe or in another zone with stricter weapon rules, it's trickier, but you can probably get the relevant permissions if you really want to. But beware, playing Real Life as if it were a First-Person Shooter will get you killed very, very quickly.

And of course, if you go for a military-oriented profession and complete enough quests you can eventually gain access to truly devastating weaponry, if you care to.

How do I get instant money just for killing things?
You kill people and take their money. But beware, that'll get a lot of other P Cs to go after you.

How do I get everyone to do nothing while I'm away?
You don't. It's a MMORPG, after all...

And where do I save my game so I can restart when I die?
You don't. Real Life is as Nintendo Hard as it gets.

Best MMO I've played, by far. If there are any NP Cs at all, they're remarkably similar to P Cs. And the P Cs usually behave decently in public. Granted, there's always the occasional scammer or someone spamming up the screen on a street corner, but all-in-all, the cooperative playstyle is amazing. It's pretty disappointing that they're not releasing other planets to American players in the next expansion, though. By the way, does anyone know when they're going to patch the combat system? It seems really unbalanced in favor of firearm-wielding classes.

The more rules there are to magic, the more ways the author will inevitably have to break them.

I love how well NPC conversations are scripted; Also the fact that I can just butt in at any time and they actually have a reply to literally anything I say. Item crafting is a bit tricky, though. As hard as I push them together, I can't make a decent weapon out of a stick and a chunk of scrap metal. I honestly have to say, however, that the graphics are absolutely phenominal. One point of interest, though: Are the ghosts intended or just glitches?

Nah. If anything, it is social skills-based classes that are rather overpowered, I think.

If you have a high enough charisma stat, you can basically get hordes of NP Cs to do your bidding, and basically play Real Life as if it was a RTS. Some of the most notorious griefers, like for example Hitler or Stalin or Pol Pot or Pinochet, were able to case a lot of damage with that trick.

Why are you guys so sure you're P Cs? I personally think I'm a NPC, I mean, I don't have accomplishments, I have few useful skills, and I don't go on quests

I really hate how most copies of the game glitch out in 60 to 70 years time, especially if you download risky mods like the heroin and crystal meth expansions. They occasionally do release patches to lengthen life, and even mods but those are for newer players.

There is a cheat. If you use certain strategies in the "eating" and "physical activity" subgames, you can add up to 10—20 years to the time limit (although there is a strong random element, as always in Real Life). And yeah, these mods are malware.

Also, there is some talk around about how new mods should be released soon to radically increase the time limit, or even to dispense with it altogether. Personally, I'm kinda doubtful (that sounds a lot like vaporware), but we'll see.

One thing that I think would really improve Real Life would be an in-built quest screen. Mostly because my character has "self-organization" as a dump stat, and keeps forgetting things and making a mess of deadlines.

I just love the minigames. I mean they're no Gold Saucer but there is so many minigames that many people are sidetracked by it. I also enjoy Japanese fan vids.

I really hate how there is no designated Pv P area and you can start a fight anywhere. Sure it can be fun but it can get annoying to see two people in a fight in a restaurant your in if your just trying to heal your character.

At least the creators went for peer-to-peer multiplayer this time, the last game had way too much lag. That said, the current user interface is downright creepy; and while the lack of a HUD or Menus is great for immersion, combined with the game's other features it can be overwhelming.

Also, the Astral Projection replacement for Alt-Tab / Cmd-~ is far too difficult to use on a regular basis, let alone the initial learning curve that's more like a cliff. I know it's to reduce Out of Character chat, but come on! Any anti-cheating system that causes a game to be compared to, let alone called a Lotus-Eater Machine is clearly faulty.
