Accidentally Plagiarizing Yourself:

I am quite worried that both of my works have a character who escaped their homeland and is now being hunted by someone, and both have a plot point of renegade heroes running from the law. But I'll probably change one or another.

I changed accounts.
@Allan,

True.
I am now known as Flyboy.

If you meant "accidentally recycling your own lines, slang and phrases", then yes, I've done that to myself.

[up]Yeah, I've done that too, when I notice I try to fix it.

I've edited my own work, thought to myself "I should totally add X here!", add it, and then find that I added X in the original draft not a few sentences later...

I don't think that counts, though.

I once tried to write a trollfic version of all of my stories combined, just to get the crappy writing out of my system.

[up] Sounds like fun. Potentially like a fun read, too, though I would need to be familiar with your pre-existing work.

Perhaps I should do that, sometime...

The truth is sometimes you have to get out the crappy, lame, obvious, stupid stuff before the better, more interesting stuff can come out.

Here's a fun one:

There was a scene I really liked in a series, where a bad thing affected all of the characters, except for one. He wasn't the main character, it wasn't a superpower, it was a weakness he had, and it was because of that he could shake it off. (Usopp with Perona's fear beam, for ref).

I shamelessly ripped it off.

Or so I thought.

I later realized I had already came up with a similar idea several ideas earlier where a weakness let one of the characters bypass a challenge easily.

I still have no idea which one is more responsible for the scene I ended up with down the line.

When I'm planning two short stories, and both of them would benefit from having a specific scene, I sometimes worry over which story needs it more.

Who you are does not matter.
"To be fair, calling it "fanfiction" isn't quite correct, since there wasn't any such thing in the past."

There is existent fanfiction of Greek plays. The concept quite literally predates the Bible at the least. Older Than Dirt.

I have in some way been working with at least one of current story concepts since my sophomore year in high school. Well over ten years.

Apparently Caesar wrote fanfics about Hercules.

The only reason there wasn't fanfiction in the past is because there weren't copyright laws in the past, so it wasn't called fanfiction, it was just another story added to the mythos.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
