The Haunting Hour:

I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this show just yet.

Anyways, it's a good and surprisingly chilling at times show - essentially it's Goosebumps but Darker and Edgier with more Downer Endings, Outer Limits Twists, and a hell of a lot more Twilight Zone Twists. And the plots are actually made for episodes instead of being adaptations books, which often helps their consistency.

The tone reminds me of some of R. L. Stine's books for teenagers - the danger is real, and the tone often more ominous. Generally, instead of having the terrible twist happen out of nowhere at the very end like Goosebumps (and even in Goosebumps the twists were generally more shocking-but-humorous than dark), they're built up to. Tends to give them more weight.

Just saw the very end of "Dreamcatcher." Heh, karma's a bitch, isn't it?

Word to the wise, if weird shit starts doing down, be as nice as possible - sure, even if you're a good person the universe might screw you over and doom you anyway, but you have a better chance of being the one who gets out alive if you're not a jerk. Careful of who and what you mess with, less you inadvertently doom yourself forever.

It a really good show and I am surprise myself why there isn't a lot of discussion in TV Tropes about the Haunting Hour. The IMDb discussion board about the Haunting Hour seem pretty active though.

I am a big fan of this show, and i very much enjoy it. my only big problem, is that it's named after Stine's short story collection of the same name...but they've based episodes on stories from his other collection, the nightmare hour instead. and that's if they do short story episodes, which they rarely do!

The Haunting Hour only have 10 stories unlike the Goosebumps so it make sense why they would use other stories as well as make their own stories.

The nightmare hour has 10, and the haunting hour book has 10. that's 20 stories there. i wouldn't mind so much if they based episodes after stories from the book it's named after.

I just content that there are still adaptions of R.L.Stine works. The Haunting Hour is a continuation of the anthology shows of the old days like the Twilight Zone, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and Tales from the Crypt. Without it people would probably be complaining why there isn't any anthology shows on TV now.

oh, that's another reason i like it.

I'd heard of that. The ideas still makes me raise an eyebrow: what would a "Goosebumps" movie be about? Monster Blood? Slappy? The Haunted Mask? Those are the only iconic recurring stories (besides "Deep Trouble" - which... meh - and "Say Cheese And Die" which isn't quite as iconic). A whole new story? In which case, is it not actually an adaptation, and they're just using the Goosebumps bit as a heading?

i assume it'll be an anthology like the twilight zone movie

I'm not really surprise that there a Goosebumps movie in the works. Hollywood seem to be going after all the popular books that I am either familiar with or seen around(exp.Mr. Popper's Penguins, Dairy of the Wimpy Kid, The Invention of Hugo Cabret). I surprise right now that there isn't a Boxcar Children movie yet.

Boxcar Children feels like it's be one of those sentimental but quirky family movies that sincerely touches on deeper feelings and concepts while still trying to be fairly goofy - I'm actually surprised a movie of that wasn't made in the 90's, where those kinds of movies came out every other month.

I can't wait for the 3 season of the Haunting Hour. The series do things I wouldn't expect a show in a kid network would do like kill off a guy in the beginning(Night of the Mummy). That totally remind of Supernatural and I pretty sure the writers are fans of Supernatural.

I watched it, I skipped the Intro entirely, but I can't bring myself to watch the Wrong Number episode, do you know why? I didn't even get the Sick episode, but I loved "My Name is Evil" episode because of the Carrie-esque tone of it :) I only saw a few episodes, because it's not currently on my channel, sad

I love the Haunting Hour, and the Downer Ending tone regardless, I always thought Goosebumps needed a 'similar' approach. (I read the Haunting Hour/Nightmare Hour book series in Borders and was scarred for life after reading short story The Bad Babysitter) evil grin I'm kinda Genre Savvy.

No. Because my name is Steph irl. And Steffani's the bad girl in Wrong Number who gets the Downer Ending. surprised

The scariest moment in the Wrong Number That was the ending that scared me. And due to my love of phones/ipad, I think this ending WILL put me off using technology for awhile...

I really want there to be a TV adapation of "The Bad Babysitter" and "I'm Not Martin" They're so scary they kept me awake long after I read the book

[up]I not really familiar with the book Haunting Hour but the seventh episode name is "Imaginary Friend." One of the short stories in book also has same title but anyways I believe a adaptation of all 10 stories in the book will happen.

Also when are you going to do the liveblog.

but we don't have /real./ confirmation of that episode. And as for the liveblog, very soon actually.

[up] Not sure what you mean by "real". I assume that the company involve or someone who knows this information beforehand was the one responsible for the future episodes list.

Look like there either a 90s children horror books revival or Nickelodeon is ripping off the The Hub or both. Spooksville book series by Christopher Pike is being adapted for The Hub. Also Nickelodeon decide to start their own adaptation of the Deadtime book series.

i say it's a little bit of both.

It seem more than a coincidence that the first episodes of both series involve dolls. Looking at the age of the actors is this suppose to be Nick Jr. version of the Haunting Hour?

anyway, i think we should actually discuss new episodes and stuff like that. This saturday, Phineas guest stars as a french alien
