Dude, calm down. Nothing is really original anymore, but that doesn't mean it can't be good. Besides, How To Train Your Dragon was based on a book. Do you see a lot of people complaining about that movie?
What I'm trying to say is, give the thing a chance before you denounce it. After reading the article, I'm even more excited for this movie and I believe it's gonna be awesome.

Looking for some stories? For those of you not willing to read through senseless rage, the point is Dreamworks is making a movie based off of Holiday figures fighting crime or something, penned, authored and produced by a director who used to work at Disney. He and Dreamworks plan to make it into both a book and movie series.
^^ Also, are you kidding me? You're ragging on the guy for wanting to make a book series about something that's been done before? Hell, from your description it's not even the studio that's being "unoriginal" with a work someone else made, this is a creator making a new series based off of public domain holiday character, which he will spearhead through Dreamworks film. It's sounds a great deal more original than most of what we get from Dreamworks.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain....Calm the fuck down. this movie sounds cool
...Can't say I've seen any original twists on Jack Frost before.
I think Rankin-Bass did a special about him once.
This sounds way more interesting, though. I want to hear more about what they're doing with the Easter Bunny and the Sandman sounds cool. And I hope they go all Chernabog when it comes to Pitch. We need more villains like that in animated movies nowadays.
All the visuals sound great as well. Especially the opening with Jack waking up beneath the lake. The way it's described makes it sound like the beginning of an epic and it could be beautiful if done right.

Looking for some stories? My only suggestion: change the title back to The Guardians of Childhood. When I first saw this title, I really thought they were going ahead with a Legend Of The Guardians The Owls Of Ga Hoole sequel.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/That's been the complaint of a lot of people. There was even a news article that got it wrong, despite the fact that Lot G was made by Warner. Personally I think "Rise of the Guardians" has a better ring to it, but YMMV.
But since they've got a poster out now, I doubt they'll change it.

Looking for some stories?Pitch is more of a Jareth looking guy
This movie sounds so fucking awesome. I have no idea how the OP can be so angry about it.
Easy street has no parking signs.I'm guessing he was just in a bad mood and felt like stirring up trouble. Or read a little of the article and jumped to conclusions.
Looking for some stories?Site for the book series http://theguardiansofchildhoodbooks.com/
That sounds like a cool concept. Don't see what the OP is so angry about. Only thing that worried me is for a sec thought it might be based on something by a different William Joyce.
HodorFrom the plot summary this sounded an awful lot like a remake of the old Santa Clause movie but with a team with the other fairytale legends. The teaser image of Santa on the site page worries me.
The illustrations for the book, on the other hand, intrigue me. But it seems to hint that the movie and the author's visions may very well be two totally different beasts.

http://www.longcriercat.deviantart.com I'm thirsty. Got any ink? Resident Pen Ward antagonist.Santa's not really the main character. It's more of an ensemble thing, and it sounds as though Jack Frost will get the most focus.
Looking for some stories?I also really didn't like that Santa teaser image. I was never a fan of that "Santa is supppeeerrrr cool" kind of personality people give him every now and then. I'll reserve my judgements but I really did feel rather ambivalent about it.
I peeddled.
Hey, where's Leonardo Di Caprio's name in the end list? .... in fact, where's HIS CHARACTER???? Must be missing something.
They recast Jack Frost a long time ago. He's being played by Chris Pine now.
Youtube link for this that would prefer that.
Looks amazing.
Looking for some stories? It looks great, definitely has that very storybook feel to it. Then again, it's written by a storybook author.
The Tooth Fairy design is atrocious. Other than that, this looks pretty cool.
Holy fucking shit this looks EPIC.
Easy street has no parking signs.
Dream Works is producing an original film about an intimidating, tough, badass outlaw, a youthful ice sprite, a fairy, and a mute made completely out of sand, who all fight the evils of children through their nakama called 'the Guardians'.
Oh wait a minute. Sorry. "Original" may not be the right word.
These characters are actually Santa Claus, Jack Frost, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the Sandman.
Oh wait. It's based on a concept by William Joyce. You know. That guy who also made films under Disney and Blue Sky. Is he still even a book author anymore?!
Oh wait. He also intends to make this film the first of a series, which will be complimented with children's books he will author himself for the projected decade!
OH WAIT. THAT MEANS DREAMWORKS WILL BASE THEIR MOVIES OFF OF THOSE SUCCEEDING BOOKS TOO! WOW. WAY TO GO WITH ORIGINALLY, FOLKS. LIKE WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANY TWISTS ON SANTA CLAUS, THE TOOTH FAIRY, JACK FROST, OR THE EASTER BUNNY EVER BEFORE!!!!
