Yeah okay, that's a debate as to whether or not digital books are the future of print.
This is a thread about people who find digital reading uncomfortable.
it is a fusion of the future of print and whether it is comfortable
nevertheless
i find digital reading awkward
i have a computer
why am i not watching anime
and the screens for ds and iphones are too small
besides books smell great
I like reading when it's done with paper.
I'm just old-fashioned.
E-reading on everything but a Kindle or another e-ink screen kinda sucks after a while. Kindles are great, though, and lighter than many books.
A brighter future for a darker age. It's just so uncomfortable to hold a DS or iPod and read. Just..ugh. -shiver-
I'm really wondering whether to buy an e-reader or not. It is not as pleasant a reading experience as paper yet, at least judging by the models I tried so far; but on the other hand, I travel a lot and I keep sending boxes of books and articles all around Europe — it gets expensive, and a little annoying when I have to check something and I don't have it yet.
Plus, I am rabidly anti-DRM, and the most popular readers so far seem all to be way DRM-heavy...
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. The only time I could really see using an e-reader is if I was on vacation and wanted to save space by not bringing multiple paper books. Other than that, give me the good old fashioned dead tree books please.
Stupid doomed timeline...I've started using an ancient iPaq PDA for my reading while commuting and stuff. It works if I turn the backlight down rather low and since I can change pages with the same hand that's holding the book I no longer have to choose between turning a page or remaining standing. And as mentioned with a 2Gbyte SD card I can store a whole library in there. So while I find e-reading more convenient I still prefer a real book because it's rather special but for reading on the go e-reading is my choice.
In the quiet of the night, the Neocount of Merentha mused: How long does evolution take, among the damned?I like both pretty equally. They're both comfortable.
Being able to read in the dark is nice, but so is actually holding the binding in your hands and turning the pages.
oh, that's why I need this binary mind // ⌘E-reading is for people who eat Almond Ice Cream.
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksWhy the e-reader hate?
You just have to get a dedicated one instead of like, reading ebooks on your cellphone.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineI dislike reading backlit screens, I suppose. It hurts my eyes compared to a physical book.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!Kindles don't have that problem.
New theme music also a boxI'm still reading plenty on my Sony PRS-505, even though it's now three and a half years old. It's awesome, and far easier than trying to read on any other non-e-ink device.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswI've been reading The Stand on my Phone with no problems, so I won't be buying a Kindle. (Well, I'm using the Kindle App.) I do still want physical books though.
DumboI really don't like e-ink. it looks incredibly unnatural, and it doesn't look right if you use PD Fs of books rather than special-purpose files.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen Fryto be fair, books don't exactly grow on trees all printed and with pages.
Is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem with this?
For example, whenever I'm at a doctor's appointment or in the hospital, I'll take my 3DS with me. Well a couple years back I bought the "101 Classic Books Collection" because it had everything from Emma to Les Miserables to Anna Karenina. But I can never seem to get comfortable reading from my DS screen.
So I downloaded some free books for my 4th gen iPod touch...same thing.
Checked out some digital books from my library for the computer...still uncomfortable.
But right now, with a physical book in my hand, I don't feel bored or sleepy or on edge. I can apparently only read a physical copy of a book. =/
