Yeah,. the "maybe eaten by bears or coyotes" thing makes me totally not favor this plan. even illegals are human. even if theyre illegally hopping the border they deserve basic protection from being eaten alive alone withoiut anyone they love nearby.
I think part of the point is that there are still park agents who are patrolling and will catch/assist supposed illegals. And also to make things more convenient for that little town. (I'm betting they're hoping that this brings in some tourist business, as well.)
In any case, this part of the border is probably a really shit stupid place to cross over, and will remain that way even if this gets implemented. So I don't think illegals will suddenly flock to this area; it's not like the environment and its dangers changed. (And they cross in areas as far away from where there are police to begin with, in order not to get caught. Which pretty much voids Midget's concern as much as the fact that it's patrolled by park agents.)

And it actually makes sense. It helps the little town in Mexico, helps the Park's gift shop, and anyone who tries to do anything illegal through the crossing might end up being eaten by bears, coyotes, or mountain lions, if they don't get picked up by Border Patrol.
