Fiction:

Well, I thought this didn't go anywhere else, so I thought maybe I'd start it here. Maybe we should have a thread to discuss fiction in general. What it means, where it can take us, and also its inherent limits and flaws, as a selective and deformed mirror of the world past and present. I'd also like to discuss our relationship to it. One knows a critic is not necessarily a writer, and vice versa, and that understanding, analyzing and creating are not synonymous. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to ask whether any of us who is still involved in the community has managed to produce any works that are critically acclaimed (even in the Small Name, Big Ego Internet sense) or had them published or sold to a publisher... or if they have managed to make some money out of writing critique for that matter, perhaps in a Newspaper or such. Since this place is anonymous and tropers may want to preserve their identities, we'll just have to take your word on it: I trust that no-one would lie about this, since there is nothing to gain from doing so.
I don't want to set the world on fire, baby. I love you too much. I just want to start a big, big flame in your heart.
Actually, I think we could use a whole forum section, for "media in general".

Someone should ask Fast Eddie to open one. I would, but I vowed long ago not to meddle into wiki administration any more.

Can fiction exist without media? What about dreams?

Dreams aren't consciously created.

Fiction can exist without media regardless. In your head. Every time you imagine something, it's essentially equivalent to fiction.

I imagine whole stories in my head all the time, because I like creating stories, but I am not a writer.

You do not like to tell them? And indeed, what about professional, oral storytellers?

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
