I present to you my favorite ship ever. I call it the Aphrodite. Powered by one fuckton of remnant
reactors, this Dreadnaught-hull Battlestar
has approximately 10 or 20 Fighter Bays in it, as well as 4 conventional Phasor arrays, and is protected by 6 canopy shields and a few smaller shields in key areas. Each Hunter hull fighter is equipped with shields, point defense laser turrets, and a primary large Phasor cannon. No fighter is capable of attaining FTL, however, they really don't need to. They will swarm enemy ships constantly until they are dead. They do more damage from more directions more efficiently than an equivalent number of phasor cannons on the ship itself. By using the fighters, the energy cost is offloaded so as not to drain from it
Also, the "4 disintegrator cannons on a cruiser" thing? >Manic laughter< it gets close to enemies, and the enemies go away, it's fantastic!
EDIT: Ok, I've found a biiiiiiiiiig quibble I have with this game, and I shall demonstrate it in the form of mock-green-text.
>Goes to war with another race.
>Bombards one planet in an enemy system until there's nothing left on the surface at all
>Sends in a colony ship mere moments afterwards
>Ally race calls me up "DO THAT BRO AND WE'RE DONE
And the tangential problem of the other races trying to colonize my home system and then getting pissy when I ask for the planets back.
And when they get pissy because we've jointly colonized a system, yet they call me up and tell me not to put warships there.
And what's worse, I can't tell them to stop doing that to me even though they do it all the time.
