Anything I'm missing? If not, well, who knows what'll happen. tongue

It's mostly the flashing lights that bother me, but I worry it's a bad ad as well.

I think the search is screwed up, because instead of going to pages I'm finding on searches, I keep either getting redirected to google, or redirected to other sites...

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm staying off the wiki until then...

Edit: Deleted the program that hijack this. I thought it was an issue with the site...

Here's another rogue ad. It and another from the same source are blinky-flashy in a way that's seizure provoking. They are advertising one of those "You've won a free iPad 2!" deals. It has shown up for me mainly when I go to Edit Post.

Frame sources are:

I'd link the script data if pastebin were up; it seems to be down at the moment. Are there any other quickie text-sharing sites that someone could recommend?

Edit: seems it came back. Here's the script link: [1] And the other one [2], although it's the same ad that comes up.

More. I'm getting ads with nothing on them but prompts to download software. These are actively misleading.

Here's one: optimized-by.rubiconproject.com/a/8777/14415/29991-9.html?cb=0.09090448636561632&tk_st=1&p_exp=1&p_pos=atf. Ad source is here: [1]

Having trouble getting a screenshot, but a new type of ad from Amazon seems to have popped up. It's one of those new type of pop-up ads, where it covers half the screen, but you can x out of it. Right now, I've only seen them on the Yamato Nadeshiko page.

It doesn't seem to be causing any problems, but I thought I'd bring it up.
I don't know if this is just me, but lately, random words are sometimes blue and underlined, creating a link, and lead to this site:

http://globalvisitorsurvey.com/survy-neth/quiz-ns.php?engsec=7&t202kw=pole

I have a screenshot of the links, but I don't know how to opload it.

reading around in the forum makes me think that this has more to do with my computer than with the site. does anybody know how this problem is solved?

I think you'll have to use the TV Tropes Image Uploader if you don't know of any other place (I don't).

It might be a virus or something like that. I get something Dutch from that link.

In uffish thought
Image uploader wise, imgur is better than TVT for screenshots — there's no width limit. Just click how you want to upload it and select the file. Then post the link to the image (it'll take you to it automatically) by enclosing it in [[ ]].

@skarl: You have a browser widget, toolbar, or malware that is highlighting those links for you. If you can post a screenshot, we can try to identify it, but it's definitely not coming from TV Tropes.

EDIT: You can't post direct links; you need to format it like this: [[URL of pic Pic description]]

Nerdy. Weird. AWESOME.
TV Tropes doesn't serve in-text ads like those, meaning you seem to have a rouge toolbar, or some other sort of adware.

Do you have any toolbars installed to your browser, or have you installed any programs recently?

edited 26th Sep '12 6:22:00 PM by VmKid

not that I know of, but I share this computer with my mother.

I removed some toolbars, and all is well agian! thanks, everybody!

Avira just reported a problem when I visited the Gratuitous French page. Appears to be a variant of http://www.avira.com/en/support-threats-summary/tid/7518/tlang/en (Avira description page - safe) called EXP.Pidief.djn in a temp file called plugin-links-plenty-remarks.php. Ad is a flash ad for Currys/Knowhow - haven't clicked on it for obvious reasons - image is

These Toyata ads seem to be one of the things that triggers those tiny downloads.

Is anyone else getting frequent requests to take some kind of action in Adobe? It seems to be happening with the Blackberry Mobile Fusion ads that I'm seeing today, but it's been happening off and on for the whole week.

Managed to capture this Verizon ad also. The download seemed to happen before the top ad had fully downloaded.

Some ad for e-set also seemed to do it.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. It's happening with every click on this site which takes me to a page with ads on it. The ads are blanking out now.

What's happening?

You have malware. Scan your computer. Either that or a malfunctioning browser.

How do I find out if the latter is the case?
