Goodness, Firefox 8 is hard to use.:

Is there an option somewhere to revert the buttons or files into Firefox 3 style?

  • F6 is disabled.
  • Middle mouse button scrolling disabled on certain forums.
  • No "Save Tabs" the next time you open Firefox.
  • There's no "New Tab" option when you right click on the tabs row.
  • And probably many more.

I'm still using Firefox 3.6 on my PC at home. I see no reason to change, it works fine and to be honest, I don't want all my addons to become incompatible just for "HURRRRRRR YOU CAN MOVE BUTTONS IN THE TASKBAR NOW!!!! XDDDDDD EPICCCCCC FIREFOX 8 FUTURE YEAAAAH!!!! SO FUCKING NECESSARY"
A lot of websites I go to are becoming incompatible to my old Firefox 3. So I was basically forced to upgrade.

... I have yet to encounter this, honestly... Granted I likely don't go to the same forums...
No "Save Tabs" the next time you open Firefox.
Firefox automatically saves your tabs. You just need to go to history and select "restore previous session" and you get them back...

Also the whole new tab bit is just a button(as it's been since Firefox 6 or so)... I never really liked the whole right-click for a new tab bit...

Right click on tab.

Yes there is. But this is Windows XP version.

You're sure this is Mozilla's fault?

Not here (Arch Linux). However, why would you rightclick on the tabs row to make a new tab anyway? You can do any of:

  • hit ctrl+T, as always.
  • doubleclick in the empty space on the tab bar, if there's empty space
  • click on the + symbol at the right of the tab bar.

Clearly superior.

Firefox automatically saves your tabs. You just need to go to history and select "restore previous session" and you get them back...
In general options, there is also an option to automatically do this ("when firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time")

F6 works. It focuses on the tab (so. you can hit F6 then use arrows to move thru tabs quickly, for example). If the tab is already focused, it focuses the page.

I always use the + symbol. I'm not even aware of other ways to open new tabs.

See ALL the stars!
I always used ctrl-T, since that also focuses the awesome bar. (So searching wikipedia for the contents of the clipboard is cltr-T, 'w ', ctrl-V, enter.)

More importantly, do you guys know if the new firefox are compatible with using realplayer to download videos? My realplayer add-ons hasn't been working since FF 6.

Firefox 8 is meh to me. I've gotten used to it, so the strange menu no longer bothers me, though it helps that I've got my settings to reload my previous session automatically when I open Firefox, and don't use too many addons.

Still, no matter what it's still better than Internet Explorer.

Speak up!
I've actually modified my (version 8) tool bar to be like the version 3. I get the new tech, with a style I'm familiar with. Traditional status bar, separate reload and stop buttons, tabs below the menubar, etc.

Firefox 3.6 was hogging resources to the point of BSOD-ing on me regularly. Upgrading seems to have fixed whatever it was that caused it. That's worth adjusting to a slightly different UI, in my opinion.

I want to go back to Firefox 3. sad

Firefox 3's design, plus my weird router allows me to bypass 4chan's ban on me, IP block be damned. Now I can't do that at all! sad

I had the same problem with Firefox 6 or so.

What is with the rapid release cycle that Mozilla are putting out?

I want my Google Toolbar back, dammit, but that only works up to FF 4.0.x.

Sounds famillar — looks like Google can't keep with the Mozilla's updates. Check the Wikipedia Firefox page, hopless, I think they're trying a new business strategy. Basically, I think they're combining the x.1, x.20, x.22 updates into different complete numbers, if I remember correctly.

Personally, I'm hoping it is compatible with Orbit Downloader.

Damn, the AZERTY 3 theme doesn't work on FF8.

And does anyone know the best replacement for CookieSafe? I miss the possibility to enable cookies for one site with only two clicks: Within minutes of installing FF8, I followed a link to a site with an "enter page" (the ad type, not the adult type) and had to open my FF options, open the exception list, find the site, remove the exception, refresh the page, and enable the cookies for the site...

They Called Me Mad!! I decided to show them all; but when I looked on my works, oh mighty, I despaired: for it made me realize they were right.

[up] Try Cookie Monster. Turn out there are 2 with the same name. Try the one I linked to.

Thanks.

Edit: Wow, that stupid "your status bar is too lame for my link addresses" crap they copied off Chrome is even more buggy than I thought:
  • Try it without the search bar
  • The address is on the left
  • Open the search bar (ctrl+F)
  • The address is on the right

I've updated my Firefox to Firefox 8 and I have no problems with it. I guess YMMV.

[up]From which version? Because I'm sure it's better than, say, Firefox 4 to 7...
