Here they are. Sometimes they're touching, sometimes they're sad, sometimes they're silly. They may or may not shed some light on the brony phenomenon. I think it's a little worrying, myself, how much good that show can do to some people. Seems as if all they needed was someone nice to meet and talk to or something.

A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.

^It's fandomsecrets,Pony version!tongue

You could apply the need to band together under common interests to make friends and talk to people to a lot of subcultures. I only go to my anime club now because of the unique, accepting friends I made there.

I can't say I have never learned a moral from watching a show or even reading a fanfic. Uncle Iroh's and Guru Pathik's words are genuinely insightful, and the Methods Of Rationality have given me a whole new direction in life.

I watch MLP,join in on the discussions over new episodes,read some fanfic,was there for the meltdown on /co/ - I'm a fan. (I'm not a brony,purely because it's a stupid name.)

But.

The fans preaching "love and tolerance" in the spirit of MLP bring to mind positive hypocrisy, and hypocrisy of either kind makes my skin crawl.

Furthermore, the fact that some people gain a genuine benefit from the simple lessons contained... makes them no different from I. :-P The degree to which some depend upon it scares me,though (there's a fanfic author who said that writing his epic fic was all that kept him going, and there's the early case where someone stood up to his abusive father with the voices of the cast ringing in his ears). What will they do without it once it and the fandom ends?sad

Finally, this is a general thing, not directed at the show - creator worship. I realise it's as old as fandom, but try to have a bit of class about it. They're just human, not gods. Treat them as such.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
