So, you've killed an animal in the wilderness in order to stay alive (or 'cause it got in your way; like Belkar Bitterleaf probably would). It's a shame to let the creature's pelt go to waste. But on the plus side, now you've got a cool hat! The only question was, what animal did you kill? (And yes, imaginary creatures count).
Personally, I think a griffin hooded cape would be interesting (refresh me: eagle head & lion body, or vice-versa?)
If not that, I'd go with a snow leopard. The way I see it, there are two variants:
