But isn't there a mandate to punish?

[up][up]yes it is in their, but its in the OLD TESTAMENT, that shit doesn't apply to Christians because that's part of the old covenant with god, not the new one made when Jesus died.

[up]yes the character of Jesus was against punishment and discrimination. But do these bigots care, not a fucking chance, they hate anyone that doesn't accept their warped views of the world.

It is not up to Christians to regulate other people's behavior. Even if homosexuality were a sin according to the Bible (versus the act of sodomy), there is no mandate in the Bible to forcibly prevent people from sinning.

Damn kash. I put my fingers to the keyboard to rebut this...and I....couldn't.

The verses specifically about homosexuals have weak contexts, so I throw them out. For me, something needs to be both in the bible and have a strong context that applies to modern times. The verses about only having sex in marriage are strong, so I accept that as something CHRISTIANS should do. However, from what I can tell, the idea that marriage should only be between a man and a woman is rooted first and foremost in Adam and Eve being male and female, which...is something kind of needed to have kids. This ties the context of marriage into the context of having children and 'being fruitful and multiplying', something which is not a vital part of being married these days. I believe people should be able to choose if they want children, and that honestly, with the world population at 7 billion, we can slow down the multiplying a little.

As such, although I put a lot of faith in what the Bible says, I can honestly say that even if the church and state weren't seperated, I'd fully support gay marriage.

Does that help?

IMO, the whole argument about what values are legitimate according to the Bible is stupid. It's a work of fiction which can be interpreted infinitely many ways, each view as valid as any other.

@Carciofus

The bizarre thing about that is, drinking alcohol isn't un-Christian to begin with. (Um, hello? Water to wine and all that?) It's drinking to excess that's frowned upon (and I'm not even entirely sure about that).

And there's a lot of people in the comments who seem to be unhappy that they didn't get to be born and live in a previous backwards century.

I'll never get why people are so nosy anyway. If you disapprove of something, great. Don't do it yourself. Problem solved. What business is it what other people do with their lives, if it doesn't affect you?

-cough cough- Sodom's crime was most likely being a horrible host, not taking serving under cooked meats bad, but TRYING TO RAPE YOUR GUEST bad.

I recall reading through Leviticus while writing a report on this very subject, and until I see someone getting persecuted for getting a goofy haircut I don't buy the argument against homosexuality either.

I'm sorry...

But until there is uproar about BYU's honor code(which is stylized by the Morman church), and how if a student breaks the code they could be kicked out of school, I really don't see the problem here.

Is it because this only applies to faculty, unlike BYU which has rules for everyone on campus?

Well. In the space of less than two pages, this has gone from discussing the situation the article in the OP linked to, to a generic "Christianity is horrible" thread.

I do believe that's a new record.

Locking. There's no discussion going on here, just bitching.
