Which remarks? If you mean the image macros, they're never "legitimate". They're for humor, and not the nice type.

Now using Trivialis handle.

Licifer is an Anti-Villain IV. The Christian Prometheus really: Prometheus gave us fire, got our technological advancment going and Zeus got mad. Lucifer changed fire to some morals giving fruit. And many of those images tell the truth, though some are streching it/irrelevant. Doesn't mean we should do anything Lucy tells us to do even if it did exist.

Seems to be something for atheists to laugh at. That being said, I laughed.

Also, Lucifer looks damned good in that picture.

It's Lucifer from Vertigo Comics.

He's not nearly as evil as say, Biblical doctrine portrays him, but he's not anywhere close to what you'd call a "Good Guy".

This is hardly an original concept. Whether they're legitimate or not... eh, I don't think so, but this is very much a Your Mileage May Vary concept.

I've read all of Neil Gaiman's Sandman (where the character originated from) and a some of the miniseries. Haven't gotten around to the monthly comic, yet.

Anything in particular you'd like to know?

He eventually makes and rules his own universe, I know that much. (It's a very long story.) And he manipulates people by telling only the truth.

But further discussion of the Vertigo character probably belongs in the comics forum rather than here. Though I'm not sure if we're supposed to be discussing the meme or if Lucifer is really a good guy or not.

He has no qualms about obfuscating it, though.

Satan Is Good is a cool trope, however most of the examples of Good Guy Lucifer are worded in such a way as to make him look good. They are taken completely out of context. While the general concept is interesting, the supposed 'meme' leaves a lot to be desired. Some of them are funny but not notably so.

In any case, I'm not sure how you could prove or disprove Satan's morality or intentions. It isn't like you can ring him up and ask him.

Those image-macros are Irony Most Pure.

That the joke is lost on the clueless, the humourless and the religious, especially where and when those overlap is but gravy.

Anyone know more about the Vertigo character?

He is certainly not a "good guy".

In Sandman, he is an Anti-Villain, but on his own series he is generally anti-heroic at his best.

ahem. Lucifer does not exist as a real entity. When people talk about Lucifer these days they are really talking about Satan, unless your a Luciferian.

I find this pretty convincing.

It linked the skeptics annotated Bible, the sources credibility just took a nose dive from "questionable" to "has no calms about twisting information to make a point".

-laughs manically with his hidden esoteric secrets-

Though even if you asked him he would probably be really ambiguous. Satan is more in the habit of asking questions so that you can find your own answers. I doubt any god would give you a truthful answer.

I will mention that Satan != Lucifer is actually a position many theologists take when they examine scripture. Though the conclusion may very well be that "There is no Lucifer" as some of the passages that refer to "him" might actually be refering to a human Babylonian King.

Though, if you except one or both of the explanations, it certainly undermines the meme.

Cronus ruled over a golden age where there were no laws because everyone acted as they should.

He also ate four out of five of his children as soon as they were born (DURING the golden age). He would have eaten the fifth, but he was tricked into eating a rock instead.

Most religions are a frickin’ GOLD mine of alternate character interpretations. The fact that values change over time just makes the mines richer somehow.

[up][up]I was just saying that from a Biblical Standpoint Lucifer doesn't exist. I misunderstood the OP actually when I posted the link to the Protestants that argue that, I was confused on what he meant, I thought he was asking if this was really an interpretation of some atheists on Lucifer in the Bible...

but I understand now that this is about some work of fiction or a meme or another?
