That's the only thing I can think to call this character type.
My brain began to codify the character while watching Disney's Babes in Toyland
. Basically, it's a character who gets away with being a Jerk Ass
or something because they're supposed to be whimsical and humorous.
In this film, the toymaker decides to use his assistant's new toymaking invention himself because HE'S the head toymaker, then doesn't follow his assistant's instructions and promptly breaks it. Then
he puts all the blame on the assistant. Basically, a boss from hell.
Then he refuses to let some lost children stay at his home until they promise to work "day and night" building toys for him.
And yet despite his obvious narcissism, the character is supposed to be likeable and amusing.
I would say that the Whimsy Sue is lot like The Wonka
gone horribly, horribly
wrong. It's not comedic sociopathy. The writer apparently thinks the character is Too Funny to Be Evil
. Nobody will ever call out the character's abusive behavior, natch.
Has anyone else encountered a character like this?
