Do they exist in Europe outside of Poland? and if not why don't they exist? Is it because of the Religious Wars or because of Communism or is it because alot of Western Europe is irreligious?

[up] Europeans are not particularly religious, except maybe the Irish and the Poles. I don't know what they did in order to neuter Christianity, but we need to do it.

They didn't really do anything, it's just sociological progression.

In other words, nothing you do that isn't actively draconian is going to hurry the process, as it's a largely natural one, insofar as society goes.

But why did it become the natural state of affairs though? I mean only France is secular country in the EU IIRC.

Theological —> Metaphysical —> Scientific.

As education and scientific advancement increases, superstition and religiosity decreases.

There's a reason the Religious Right wants to teach creationism in American schools: control the schools and you control the beliefs of a people.

There are various shades of Christian parties all over Europe. In Germany they're currently heading the government.

In Finland, we have a Christian Democratic party, and they have one place in the cabinet (their chairwoman is the minister of interior). We also had a Islamic Party, but they couldn't gather the 5,000 signatures required to register a party.

There are religious parties, but they are generally marginalised. For example, Finland has Christian Democrats who agree on everything except gay rights(stricly against them) and weakening church(like how you no longer need to go to priest to resign from church). I can't remember how much they got seats now, 2-3? Out of 200

They have 6 MP's, one minister.

Here's a list of some European Chistian Democratic parties, there are other Christian parties of various shades. Finland also has a Christian Socialist party, under the name of "Köyhien Asialla" (On the behalf of the Poor), though it's more a cult of personality for their leader.

[up] Yeah, but the average Christian-Democrat party is centre-right, not Religious Right theocracy nuts.

The problem isn't that most Americans are crazy fundamentalists, Savage, the problem is all the crazy fundamentalists vote, while the majority of Americans do not.

Therefore, you must give everybody else incentive enough to vote.

Yeah, obviously there are differences in ideology. A party like CDU in Germany could not go with a radical fundamentalist platform if they wannt to rule a modern nation of 82 million people.

What is a "religious political party"? A party whose members are predominantly religious, or a party whose agenda explicitly includes following a specific religious doctrine?

The second one as secular parties have religious people in them

To some extent the political parties in Northern Ireland could be described as "religious parties", none moreso than the DUP, who were founded and lead for over thirty years by this guy.

Northern Ireland is something of an odd case, though. To some extent kind of like the UK equivalent to the American Deep South.

Then I think you've been told there are some outside Poland. Which brings me to the other point — which ones are these religious parties of Poland?

I'd like a religious political party. I don't really like the "choices" we get in the US.

Europeans are not particularly religious, except maybe the Irish and the Poles. I don't know what they did in order to neuter Christianity, but we need to do it.

Destroyed a lot of the religious culture and tradition in France, at least.

Third parties in America could use more power in general, but I think a lot of folks would balk at something with overtly religious overtones, given our general belief in separation of Church and State (right in our constitution)and the general rabidity and craziness of our current religious right.

Anyone who tried to call for religion doing actual charity and attempting to enter the government to do so would get shouted out pretty damn quickly over here. In fact, it kind of weirds me out that there are religious based political parties in Europe, but with their proportional representation I guess that means they can't get too much power and have to get along with the rest of the parties somehow.

Remember, they are lot, lot more moderate than the American Religious Right. On the whole, the major Christian Democrat Parties exist towards the (non-American) Centre.

A Religious Party in Britain?

Wouldn't stand a hope in Hell.
